  1. do it! im hopefully planning on doing Le Mans this year in mine, and then a trip down to chamonix for a few days. when i do go, im planning on making sure everything is well serviced, all the levels are topped up, and then also taking jump leads and footpump just in case, as well as the usual high vis, first aid kit, gb stickers and highlight deflectors. plus, isnt petrol some 15p a litre cheaper in france? who wants to organise a club outing then ? :)
  2. is that 60-70bhp on an otherwise stock car (stock airfilters, exhaust, intercoolers etc)... how about on a car with upgraded filters, exhaust and intercoolers, for example?:whistling:
  3. bmw. mercs are for wafting, bmws are for driving
  4. im going to the supercar sunday at the heritage motor museum in Gaydon in June... always a nice collection of exotica, and some older stuff. If we get a group together we can get some display space and get in for free!
  5. Quick one - my zed is slipping the clutch in 5th at motorway cruising speeds, but the previous owner had the flywheel and clutch replaced less than 5k ago, so i dont think they're worn out - can the clutch just be adjusted better?
  6. pssh, i'd consider that a result! i think my first mot with my zed might be a bit pricey if they decide my sills and brakes need doing. Get it done and then we'll have a meet in the new year!
  7. Ahem, i meant to say... Or use the CANCEL button. whatever takes your fancy really!
  8. all well and good, but not sure about the 'small moan from oneself' bit... if that was the only noise she made it would be like making love to a plank of wood... a bit (lot) more volume would be good!
  9. yep, first drive for a week and half today! so glad to be back in it, my missus's 206 had a horrible driving position, and also i nearly killed myself today attempting and overtake of a car doing 40, and then realising i have no power AT ALL in either 3rd OR 2nd! Got a 40 mile round trip planned tomorrow - gonna give it some stick if the roads arent too wet.
  10. still got the original titanium one! whoever pulls my keys out the hat will know they're in for something special :D
  11. Theres more to it than that... While cruising, press and hold RESUME/ACCEL and the car will speed up for as long as you keep holding the button, and then maintain the new speed when the button is released. Similarly, press and hold the SET/COAST button and the car will coast (no power) and so will loose speed. When the button is released, the car maintains the new speed. Also useful to note, if you're cruising at 70, and accelerate to 80 to overtake, when you stop accelerating, the car will coast back down to 70, where it will then cruise again. Useful for country A roads where you want a steady 60, but need to accelerate to 80 say to get past a slower vehicle. However, if you drop down a gear it cancels cruise control, so you have to overtake in 5th :D Also, i find pressing the clutch is a good way of disengaging the cruise control without actually braking.
  12. show it some love and do it properly! you'll only get a whole load of new scratches in the paint if you get a machine to do it. soak first, then have suds in one bucket and clean water in t'other, so you can clean the sponge after each panel, then rinse. get some wash and wax, half hour, job done.
  13. well ideally, id say, 4 zeds in a convoy, taking 8 people! Just wondering if anyones thinking about going!
  14. More of an International Event, but this seems like the best place to put it. Anyone going down to Le Mans 2011 next year? I really want to go, but would like to convoy down in a group of a few cars and then have a few adjacent spots at a campsite. Costs are currently £225 for eurotunnel and on track camping for the duration of the event. Im taking my zed down, but so far its just me, so im looking for someone to go halves on petrol!
  15. i love the light dusting ive had here! actually steered the car on the throttle for the first time pulling into our car park. Plus, i know its irresponsible but it is fun driving past people on the pavement, then giving it a good stab of throttle in 2nd gear... and not going anywhere! i'm still on for zedworld - once a main road its alright really.
  16. yep, i love mine! im still at the stage where i pull up, get out, walk around the car for a minute, and then go inside. Can't believe its 20 years old - when my car was made i was 3! Its aged better than i have... It also sounds and drives amazingly too :)
  17. a full tank did me around 150 miles this month... my own fault for doing a 2 mile trip to work each day. Best ive managed so far was 22mpg on a motorway cruise. Hoping a remap and a service can get me up to 25mpg.
  18. thats why im thinking using the load rating for a best guide - entirely possible that the standard tyres nissan fitted 20 years ago would not have been rated to such high pressures, and probably with flimsy sidewalls. although general consensus is to have higher pressures in the rear? this would seemly conflict with the slight front heavy nature of the car?
  19. Whats everyone running? I've looked at the 'tyre pressures - getting them right' post, but with different load ratings front and rear, and assuming a 52/48 front/rear weight distribution, i get to 33psi in the front, and 29psi in the rear... Thats on 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 tyres. Does this sound about right? whats everyone else running at? Looking forward to a glorious 200mile round trip at xmas :D, and wanna make sure they're right before I set off. Cheers!
  20. + 1 for Snowleopard comments! Two months in as well, and completely agree about the styling... looks awesome, from any angle! i love the roofline and lowness of it all. V6 sounds amazing... have driven 3 4cly cars, and a bmw straight six, but nothing comes close to the burble of a decatted V6! its totally addictive... there isnt a single tunnel ive driven through where i havent dipped the clutch and blipped the engine :D another very important point - the driving position is spot on - nice low seat, fairly close steering wheel, gearchange easily to hand. Interior is plush - the front seats are really comfy, motorway cruises are a joy, especially with cruise control set to a lazy 70. Surprisingly havent had as many admiring glances as i might have thought - probably because no one knows what it is! still, hides its age remarkably well for a 20 year old car. Only drawback i have found so far is slightly wayward cornering... im never sure if its sliding, or HICASing, or generally wobbling - think i might do a hicas delete and bushing overhaul, so i'll know exactly whats going on at the back. Also, need to stop driving it like a pansy - im driving it like an NA engine, changing up just as the turbo kicks in and then wondering where the powers gone in the next gear... Need to get it in the power band and keep it there! Can't wait till some sun comes back so i can get roof panels out! One Happy owner :)
  21. its 20 years old! i wasnt expecting it to still be factory fresh!
  22. aww cant remember his name now... its not weston performance though, you want to speak to rev-it - thats who had the dyno. same facilities, just split in two i believe. And yes, get a group day sorted for the new year! Im in. I paid £35 for three runs with the mx5 oc.
  23. Spose it depends on the engine - mine currently makes a healthy 280lbft at 4600rpm, but then drops steadily down to 180lbft at 7000rpm. that then pulls the power down as well. hopefully with a bit of chip work i can keep the torque curve flatter at high rpm and so keep the power climbing all the way up the red line. Gonna aim for 300lbft and 320hp. and no, didnt get a rating at the wheels - i wanted it comparable to the magic 300!
  24. id quite like to meet up in Meriden again... nice and close for me, rob and batman, and easy for anyone from leicester or brumingham
