track/ drag tyres
And that qualifies you for all the help and experience I can provide. It is exactly my mantra is all things car related and in life too. Do it once and do it right. However as far as NA performance and tuning and use go there is no book to read and Wikipedia and Google dont help either. So Iv had to experiment and not all the experiments have been successful first time round. The latest example being my forged engine............................. But lets keep the thread on topic. As you are young and on a limited amount of disposable income Im going to propose a compromise for this year/season and then we can discuss a phase 2 program later. The compromise involves just one set of tyres that will do both track sessions and drag runs competently but not ultimate ....without breaking the bank totally I havent yet done the numbers on the final details but before I do give me a call on 07778 411568 or my landline 01773 761238 to get a brief overview. Then we can post it up on this thread for discussion my proposal and see what input others with relevant experience (there are a few with real world as opposed to internet knowledge on the forum)

New Club Banners.
Sadly the Motorsport banner is still in its bag. It went all the way to Japfest but didnt get displayed for a list of reasons. It was blowing very windy and nobody told me you would need four long stakes and a hammer to secure it. Some bright person from another club decided he was parking cars all over the place so the 300zxs couldnt/didnt park together. It was a shame we didnt have "an organizer" present It wasnt our pitch/show so perhaps it wasnt appropriate to put it up anyway. Bob n me were out in all three track sessions so had limited time to do anything with it. Maybe it would have been better with a "drive over" type base. I could have asked another 300ZX to put it under his wheel. No good for me as the car was constantly moved during the day. For the future ... carrying it in my car is a nightmare as anything like the base legs rattle about as Im on the road as I have no trim/storage facility. Sorry to sound negative but thats just the situation I like the idea of the banner .but on reflection it might be better utilized by a National or regional organizer

Who's got the widest rear tyres on a standard body?
A whole new world awaits you. Drag tyres are drag tyres and track day tyres are.... well track day tyres.!! Start a new thread and we can get the ball rolling

Who's got the widest rear tyres on a standard body?
Do you need to be "road legal"?? The Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial is the best tyre by a country mile. It is allowed by Santa Pod as a "street " tyre. When used properly it will hold in excess of 500bhp. It will allow you to launch properly ie at max torque revs and shift correctly at max power revs. End of discussion. One additional bit. If all you have is some 9.5J rims then they will sit OK on them. BUT if you had some 10" then they will sit even better. Im not quoting from on line tyre calculators Im telling you as an owner of a pair .Mine are currently not on 10"s but either 9 or 9.5 ...They are not at home so I cant check but they are as flat as they could be. I know finding some 10" 17s isnt easy but it would be worth the effort.Im going to use my 10" soon

And then there is the factor of "tread wear" number of the tyre compound to think about. For equal sized tyres the softer the compound the more traction it will give...especially with pre warming/burnout

Who's got the widest rear tyres on a standard body?
Just bear in mind that a 285/40-17 is over 5% larger/taller than the std 245/45-16 tyre. It will drop your revs/mile my 5% So any gain you might make on cornering will be possibly negated by slower acceleraion thru yer whole run

Don’t buy one of these for oil changes!!!!
I would get in touch with Guy at Opie Oils and inform him what happens when you used it.They have a good reputation for customer service.

Quiet around these parts
And that was nicely proven if you looked over the field we were allocated at Castle Combe.

Japfest 2014......
That would not have worked.................................. Remember me and Bob were there too!!!!
-
Japfest 2014......
exactly. I arrived about 10 minutes before you...no problem at all. Year after year at shows like this the advice beforehand is to arrive VERY early.... and year after year some people disregard the advice...and suffer the consequences . Japfest and Trax are the two events where this is an annual occurence

Japfest 2014......
+ Bobgenie!! The club is famous for its "no show on the day" turnouts.Japfest just followed the pattern.:innocent: The norm is 20 people say they are coming....10 turn up!! The car is relatively uncommon now. So even with a full club attendance many clubs will turn out bigger numbers. 350Z being a good example. Many thousands on the road so bigger numbers at a show.

adjustable suspension on an na
Some of the US stuff I believe. Stillen?? AMS??? I just bought the cheap stuff as I hardly drive it anywhere.Been to Japfest today... first drive this year. Put plenty of grease on the joints . Works for me.

any idea what these would weigh in at
+1.
-
adjustable suspension on an na
IMO... you only need a pair of adjustable top arms and some rear NA toe arms. That allows you to get the camber and toe in at the back adjusted to suit your intended use. All the shiny/orangey/bluey/chromey stuff is made in China. They are cheap cos they use cheap spherical joints that wear out quickly. However they last long enough on limited mileage cars like ours

Ten Of The Best 300ZX V GTO Competition
The offer of Quorn burgers on the barbie isnt going to tempt me!!! If I can get a trailer and someone to look after the greyhound then I may well come tho. Lets get Japfest done first tho..............................

Is something missing??
Look at the paint finish on your car...Is it "solid" /plain white or does it have a pearl/fine metallic sheen or shimmer to it when cleaned/t cut.? Especially in the sunlight or when a torch or other light us used on it That will give you the answer . Unless the whole car has been resprayed?

the weight question
there is really only one weight that matters Joel.....the weight of the item remaining. Most of us who have done this semi seriously have just followed this path...... spending lots of time weighing things as you go makes for semi interesting forum chatter but not much more. If you look back at my threads on Bobs car or mine you will find some data tho.... I think??. Done on a coal The only other criteria to apply to weight loss is whether you need the car to be MOTable and/or useable on the road Mine currently weighs 1270kg with 1/3 tank of fuel (no driver) public weighbridge but it is in line with previous weights on my old slicktop.
