  1. Cheque was sent out last Tuesday, just wondering when I will be set up as a subscribed member? Cheers
  2. Having recently bought a UK car thinking it to be a safer bet, I would probably go for an import if I had my chance again. The amount of damage that the UK weather and salted roads has done to the underneath and sills of the car I bought will cost much much more than the saving I made on the insurance. There again it was fairly cheap. With all cars (import or not), you get what you pay for - thats the main thing to bear in mind in my opinion.
  3. Having seen this car in the flesh I can say its its a great looking car. Looked even better when it was parked in my drive the other week ;)
  4. Posted off cheque for £22.00 yesterday for my membership (finally!), I'm not paranoid about using paypal, honest! About time I stuck my hand in my pocket and put something back ;) Gareth
  5. Just wanted to post a message to say thanks very muchly to Bob over at Safe and Sounds in Chester. He has spent the last week tinkering with my 'big red shed' (thats what the missus calls it), and getting it running properly after weeks of me tearing my hair out trying to do the same myself. This in addition to sorting me out with a letter for my insurers about my CAT1 alarm system a few weeks ago. It now works! the ignition is working properly now (the engine will switch off with the key rather than me popping the bonnet and yanking fuses). As well as this he fitted some new spark plugs that I bought, repaired my PTU and put the interior back together which was all in the back seat! Although the work Bob and his sidekick have done has highlighted some things I need to get sorted out, the car now goes like stink :hyper: .I've not had much chance to drive the car since I bought it and my limited use had satisfied me that the car was rapid, but after Bobs played with it its now scary fast!!! I've never been in a car as quick, never mind owned one. Anyway, enough rambling. I just thought I would like to publicly thank Bob and would recommend his company to anyone. Even though Alarms and ICE appear to be the main part of the business, they are not afraid to pop a bonnet and get stuck in. With 300zx's you have to be a brave man to do that! He is a true enthusiast (as some of the older members on this site would already know). Also, if it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have known about Safe and Sounds being on my doorstep. I think its about time I blew the dust off my wallet and coughed up £20 to join ;)
  6. Well, it seems as though we're getting somewhere now. The spark plugs were really fouled up and the cats have unburnt fuel in them. Have had to buy a new set of plugs this afternoon and will try them tomorrow morning. Then I need to work out why its running so rich. Good fun these cars, aren't they? :(
  7. The starter moter is fine as the car is turning over as normal, I've heard it trying to start over the phone!
  8. Having an electrical fault sorted out on my car at the moment (engine wouldn't cut off when ignition switched off). Seem to have got to the bottom of that problem which is a faulty EGI relay. Now the bleedin' thing won't start! Apparently its getting fuel and a spark but won't fire. Any ideas what to look at next?
  9. I reckon this is what would happen if chavs buy decent cars. I'm just trying to see if there are any Ripspeed stickers on it anywhere... :xxx:
  10. Anyone know where to buy replacement gearstick and handbrake gaiters? Just looking for bog standard black leather (mine are knackered). Do any of the traders here sell them or is it trip down to the Nissan dealer?
  11. Don't know if the offers still on but I bought a 4 litre can of the Mobil 1 15W-50 fully synthetic oil for about £18.00 from Asda a couple of weeks ago. It was on a half price offer at the store in Queensferry near Chester. I didn't even know Asda sold that kind of stuff! (it is one of those hypermarket places though...)
  12. Can one of the elctrical bods help with confirming what the EGI relay controls (that is in the fuse box under the bonnet)? I am trying to trace an ignition related fault and just need to be sure its not part of the circuit. Most people post on here that their cars won't start, mine won't stop!!! When you switch off the engine keeps running (and no it aint a turbo timer, I've spent the last two nights tracing wires under the dash to make sure). I think I have now narrowed the problem down to a short in the ignition circuit or a knackered alarm/immobiliser
  13. Don't you just love translation software!? "Mr. large fireworks" I spat out my sandwich at that one. :p
  14. Thanks a lot for the offer Bob, I will be in touch in the next few days (lots on my plate at the mo.), as I also would like you to look at my alarm and verify it as per my post of the other day. Speak to you soon. :)
  15. I have had a rather dead zed for the past week, wouldn't fire but was turning over o.k. I found out this evening that there was a fuse/relay (not sure which) blown in the small box under the bonnet on the drivers side (has about 6 fuses in it), which controlled the fuel pump. No fuel pump - no fuel - no car start, at last! I swapped out one of the other fuses from the same box (the one for the electric seat as it was the same rating) and the car started - then promptly died. The fuse I had put into the fuel pump socket had also blown now. So now I know why the car wouldn't start, but does anyone have any idea where I start looking for the cause of the fuse/relay blowing?
  16. Cheers Cybernet - in Chester as well! :) I will give him a shout and see if he can help...
  17. Unfortunatley I don't have the manual, but looking at the various 'bits' of the system and comparing it to the info on the Scorpion website, I am 99% sure it is one of the 2 systems Scorpion had Thatcham Cat 1 approval on. Does anyone know if there is a register or similar of approved installers? I need one around the Chester area. Thanks for your prompt responses guys...
  18. I'm sure someone else has come across this problem before. I have just taken out a car insurance policy based on having a Cat 1 alarm & immobiliser fitted (the system was fitted before I owned the Zed). I sent the note I got with the car from the original installer of the alarm which basically stated Cat 1 Scorpion alarm and immobiliser system fitted. The insurance company have written back saying that the document I sent has not got enough detail and want more information i.e. model information etc. :headvswal Has anyone ever taken their car to a.n.other alarm installer to have their system inspected and 'certified' for insurance purposes? I want to avoid having to have a new system installed just to get a bit of paper for the insurers. The system is a good one - I just can't proove it!! Any ideas?
  19. I am a mind of useless information...or so my missus keeps telling me! Just don't ask me anything technical about these fookin cars, had mine just over 2 weeks and every time I look at it I seem to find another problem!
  20. The problem is that the two items you have aren't well matched. The air ratchet you have is a pro model usually used on compressors with bigger receivers (i.e. 250litres) and higher pressure ratings (10-13 BAR minimum). This is a ratchet that a lot of tyre bays use (I used to work in the garage equipment industry and have come across it before) and they use much bigger compressors to run them. An air ratchet of this specification would empty the receiver on your compressor faster than the pump unit could replenish it. Although the ratchet states it will run on a relatively low CFM value, that is usually a duty cycle figure. A quote from a compressor company site... Air tools are often rated as “Average CFM.” “Average CFM” is typically based on a 25% duty cycle (15 seconds out of a min.). If you plan on using an air tool on a continuous basis, it is a good idea to multiply the “Average CFM” x 4 to get a continuous CFM rating for the tool. The other problem is that compressor manufacturers normally quote maximum theoretical figures for CFM. Typically a compressor will only give 50-70% of that figure for a variety of reasons. Its just running out of puff. I hope this info is of some use...
  21. My previous next door neighbour had a stack of these on his hand painted (true) Nova, I think they were holding the rusty bits together... (Yes he was a chav by the way)
  22. Reckon he must have got them in his selection box off his gran for xmas!!!
  23. I got insurance for my newly purchased zed today. As its a second car I had no NCB to apply... got quoted £440 fully comp, £260 third party fire & theft by using confused.com!!! The policies were via Direct Choice (brokers) but the insurance company is called Highway Insurance (I think). I was well impressed - it is a limited mileage policy however (and the car is a UK model), but this was half the price of ANYONE else! As I am a tight git I went for third party, it leaves me with more money to sort out: propshaft vibration rusty sills dodgy oil pressure sender etc..etc..
  24. Paul C... Bugger - seems I went about buying mine wrong in a big way!!! Bought on monday before xmas (in dark I should add...) It's red Its a manual (no other reason than personal prefererance though - honest) I did buy it off a member however! The 'expert' person I took along with me was my wife (great help on choice of colour) I'll admit that it aint perfect, far from it - but I'm happy!
  25. Cheers guys, I guess I should have thought about the V5... doh!
