  1. Believe me i've tried to use strips for the brake part and they're either not bright enough or even looking so look daft, sure i can put individual bright red leds in which was my plan with the latter version but the chamber is unevenly shaped which makes life near impossible if you're like me and want symmetry. The stop/tail bulbs i talk about for the top chamber is the best option and anyway these are smd/led bulbs i'm talking about and not your standard filament type. You don't need to show me chasing indicators as i know all about them !! All the MOT regs state they should be amber, all mine are definitely yellow but i don't expect a problem, if i do have a problem i'm up a creek...
  2. I am not doing any like this with the switchback system, saving this for myself :p. However, it is not a problem to do clear lenses in both with red stop/tail bulbs in the normal top and a yellow led strip in the bottom, i did make some like this for a guy in the USA only about a month ago and it works well. The chasing indicator is being considered, i'm not sure will work so well as the chamber is quite large but certainly something for a later date.
  3. Thank you John, they're very bright and all my indicators are the same leds which means all the same brightness and colour, not to mention the modern crispness you get with them. Pic below is just with tail lights on, difficult to show how red it all is and is certainly better in the flesh. I have the cree 80w white bulbs in the stock position reverse panel lower chambers and i've made the top fog ones better with an extra hidden diffuser behind the stock outer lens and i've also cut away a little plastic which spreads the red out more hence filling the chamber better, with the aim for it to match the new look tail units as best i can. Quite happy with the rear now, i could quite easily put some red strips in the markers that will fill them better but it's not eating away at me .
  4. I have just tweaked these a bit, all the leds were outward facing which was incredibly pretty but it bothered me as i wanted the lenses to look as white as possible and the strip lights were dulling the look down. Another reason i wanted and knew and have, made them brighter. They still work in the exactly the same way, both top and bottom uniquely as sidelights in red and then the bottom switches to yellow when indicating. In the below pic you can just make out the red leds i bespoke fit especially in the top part, when fitted on the car you can hardly see them, even if you do then it's the same in both top and bottom exactly. The bottom chamber lends itself very well to strip leds but the top however is a different matter and this was MY dilemma which i think i've solved. Please note pic is taken with units more tilted back than when fit on the car, hence the red individual leds can be seen more than normal. Finally, lots of wiring/soldering. The silver block btw is the switchback delay module. You may notice two bullet connectors, one is to turn off the lower red side light part, so when tested if the mot guy is not happy i can make this indicator chamber work as stock by turning off completely the red led strip. I have some bright red smd cree stop tail bulbs in the top, this is a change from the first version above ones i did as 'stop' were again a strip and i had completely done away with the stock bulb locations, the brake lights now are these bulbs - nothing else is brake and are brighter than before - a touch more than the standard bulbs and certainly more red. These dual contact cree bulbs have a less bright 'tail' part and this other bullet is for the option of turning off and on this. If i had these working the top chamber would therefore look different from the lower chamber when just sidelights are on - hope you follow that ! I have no bulb in the stock indicator holder as the strip does it all.
  5. I've never met you David but Mandy at least 3 times, always having a chatter with her which mainly involved oggling her car, she got those rear decals off me which you probably fit - i was passing right by your home and dropped them personally through your letter box. Noticed her last post was with regard to me fitting chrome handles on her car for the new owner and it was with approval which means a great deal. Credit to you also for no doubt carrying out her wish to let us all know the devastating news so very promptly, much appreciated. Take care, Andy.
  6. At the company i deal with it's the owner i liaise/text with, not just the manager. The reference number is FW655F and is by Akzo Nobel, my work was all lacquered. You have to buy a minimum of 5kgs he tells me so if your powder coat people haven't got it which i doubt then he tells me it's 5 x £14, perhaps plus vat as well. Now he has given me a price as he has around 1kg in of that colour and therefore enough to do 4 calipers - perhaps do the rears ? They will strip, blast, etch and mask all 4 then apply the colour and then gloss lacquer, my front water pipes have stood up to the heat no bother. Price is £120.00, your further costs will be ship to me and then back to you, estimate no more for this than £7.50 each way. Expect just the fronts will be a little more than the half, there is not a penny and wouldn't be in any of it for me btw.
  7. I will text my guy and see if i can be a little more specific.
  8. Starts at post 41, you can clearly see the gunmetal against silver on many pics. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?175200-My-Chrome-Plating-Powder-Coating-and-Polishing-Thread/page2
  9. Yes that's nice, 100%, with the silver Brembo decal ? EDIT : Looking back at my engine bay bling thread, the gunmetal colour you desire it seems in the powder coating world they call this 'metallic black' as that is my plenum colour.
  10. Please note : The sellers recent feedback is pretty abysmal to say the least .
  11. You may of paid but not displayed :gun_bandana:.
  12. Happy birthday Joel........sunny not out of my window, sunny on the 8th though which was my birthday :p.
  13. My wife likes them a lot but we or rather me bought a Merc..............she just doesn't let it lie :thumbup1:.
  14. Not floating my boat, it's over the top but he does state it's a show car, not sure though this excuses a lot of the changes. And as for the price he wont find a buyer at no where near that who loves it as much as he does, unfortunately.
  15. I do believe from others not me......you can get some blue pills that helps also with that 'issue'.
  16. Nice one, half eaten though and someone as pinched the batteries .
  17. Haha, thank you again. Don't have a fancy cake, my lad as his birthday a few days before me so we often share. Have had a go with the r/c Z31 with working flip up headlights and it's how you'd imagine, works well on my kitchen wooden floor and does doughnuts !! Bought it to look after and worth well more than the £45 paid !! Also got a carnauba waterless kit, cordless GMC dremel like tool, solder pot and lots of candy and chocs. Just about to have that steak, chips, mushrooms, tomatoes, etc - hum hum. Thanks again - appreciated .
  18. Thank you, got plenty of batteries on charge for a little play later, it's a 1/18 Z31 Taiyo with turbo feature :thumbup1:.
  19. Various reasons why my fully led switchback lights are back on the bench, one is i wanted to do the tail light part brighter and also the stop light chamber much much brighter. Wanted to hide the led's more as well, the way i had them they didn't look as clear or as white as i would of liked from the outside. Because i am not using the red stock diffuser and it's a bumpy layout unlike the bottom which lends itself to strips very well, i have worked out a way to attach a full strip for greatest possible spread of light and another main criteria for me was for both chambers to perfectly be equal in every way. I have tested behind the both clear lenses and i couldn't be happier, i have a yellow bright strip in the bottom, you can just see it, this isn't quite as long but fills the chamber 100%, again you have to work with what you have - you cannot just put where you want.
  20. My guess Ian it's just the contacts in the pod itself, putting one of my known working pods in will shed light.
  21. I have 2 spare pods - see you Saturday ?
  22. I like mine as well - true to year as you say and it's 99 spec :thumbup1:.
  23. Don't ask me to help you with this one .
