Stalling when slowing down ?
Hi Rob, I've got a similar problem with my car at the moment. It stalls quite easily when stopping but only when the engine is cold. Once it reaches operating temp it won't stall (although it used to under hard braking - sorted that prob by replacing the PVC valves and associated hoses). I know that I've got two pretty hefty vacume leaks but they also remain when at operating temp so I've ruled that out. I know that my base idle is set too low and I'll change that when I get a chance to hook up my ConZult. Basically, when braking to a stand still I can see the idle settle too low and the ECU then kicks in and raises the revs artificially. Most of the time this works when slowing down gently. If I need to brake hard the ECU won't kick in in time and the car stalls ... I'm hopeful that resetting the base idle will correct this embarassing problem. Another (possibly associated) problem is that the car idles really rough when cold. This has been narrowed down to a sticky lifter/valve on the number 2 cylinder which loosens up when warm thereby irradicating the problem. Once warm the car idles smoothly (although the revs are kept artificially high by the ECU) and (coincidentally) won't stall when slowing down. I really need to sit down and sort this one out but just haven't got the time. If/when I do sort it I'll let you know. Cheers mate! Danny

ConZult Diagnostics at Billing (DTA-Motorsport)
Hi All! Further to Mark's (Topless) post I'm pleased to announce that DTA-Motorsport (UK) will be providing two sessions of ConZult diagnostics. As agreed, we will be donating 50% of the proceeds to the Club. To make things as simple as possible we'll be taking bookings at the DTA-Motorsport stand (directly accross from the 300ZX Club) between 0900 - 1200 hrs on Saturday. Diagnostics will be taking place between 1400 and 1600 hours on Saturday and 1000 and 1200 hours on Sunday. Sessions will be strictly limited to 15 minutes each and cost £15 (payable at time of registration). Availability is strictly on a first-come-first-served basis. Please consider the following: At Billing there will only be three members of our staff who are qualified to do ConZult diagnostics. As we also have a stand to run one of us will need to remain there. To help us out we'd like to request that you make yourself and your car available at the correct time and have the engine warmed up to normal operating temperature. If you are late for your appointment we will move on to the next one and if there is enough time left at the end we'll come back to you. If not then you're out of luck. Due to the limited time available we will not be able to make any physical adjustments to your car - we will only advise on what we find and offer possible remedies. I'm looking forward to seeing you at Billing. Regards, Danny

Yesterday I saw...
Don't bother Pete unless you're running a massive boost upgrade. I've driven one a while back and they are far quicker off the mark than our Zeds. Very nice cars though and I'll defo have one if/when finances allow (love the look of the upcomming open top version too). Cheers! Danny

Poor heater fan output.....
Hi Martin. Although I have no definitive answer to your question I'd like to add a few "thoughts". I don't think that disconnecting the airconditioning has any effect on the air's exit velocity. The Z's climate control system is extremely complex (and in my opinion over engineered) which means there are numerous places where things can go wrong. Warm and cold air is mixed at different places in the system before exiting through the various vents with seamingly no logic to where you actually want it to come out of. Series 2 cars onward came with buttons allowing you to direct the airflow. It is possible that there is an obstruction somewhere in the system. It is also possible that there is an electrical problem which holds the internal doors open in the wrong position. I think your best bet is to either take the car to a specialist or meet up with another Z owner and compare identical climate control settings. Good luck and I'm sorry for not having any more definitive information. Regards,

Apex'i Intake Dangerous?
Hi Rory! Initially I thought this thread was put up as a "scare" story but having followed it's progress for a while I'm glad to see it has true technical merrit. I am a reseller of A'PEXi products in the UK and the induction kits are by far the most popular and best selling item. As you have indicated, by posting the link to the comparison tests, the A'PEXi filters come out on top in every aspect from filtration quality to flow-through rate. Simply put, you can't find a better performing aftermarket filter than the A'PEXi's. The recommendation for the addition of an Air/Fuel Controller is really only applicable to those vehicles who are running higher boost and aftermarket ECU chips in pursuit of big BHP gains. It is always a good recommendation to have an air/fuel controller when tuning a car and our resident tuners - THOR Racing - will certainly concur. When an aftermarket filter is installed the ECU must be reset and the "self-learn" values cleared to allow it to adjust to the new amount of air that is available throughout the rev range. Even the standard Nissan chip has maps build in to compensate for increased airflow, etc. Once the new values have been "learned" the ECU will be able to cope with most situations thus minimising the risk of letting the engine run too lean or rich thereby causing internal damage. So, in daily use there is an insignificant risk of causing engine problems if you add a filter without also installing an air/fuel controller. This risk obviously increases as you make further performance changes. As you have said, the recommendation by A'PEXi to add an AFC is only on the Japanese site which leads me to believe that in their other markets A'PEXi realises that the risk is too insignificant to mention. As a general note to everyone who has an A'PEXi filter fitted or is looking to fit one I have the following to say. I have sold well over a hundred A'PEXi airfilter over the past two years and not once has an engine problem been the result of these filters. I fully recommend these airfilters and in my opinion there is no risk whatsoever if fitted properly. Of course there are certain rules which need to be followed when you're tuning your car for big BHP but the addition of this airfilter is, in my opinion, completely safe. Rory - thanks for bringing this subject matter to our collective attention. If anyone has any further questions regarding A'PEXi products or want to order an airfilter (currently only 2 left in stock) then please (1) post them in the DTA-Motorsport section of the Traders Forum or (2) give me a call on 07044016586. Black Metal Trim Fade
I know it is a bit cheeky but us Z owners are all skint at some point or another (and usually more of the time than not ;)). There is no need to remove the trim just make sure the trim is nice and clean. Like Matty I too bought two different widths and it works a treat. Good luck!

Black Metal Trim Fade
Do what I did for less than a pound ... buy some black electical tape and carefully cover all the trim pieces. If you clean the bits properly before applying the tape they will last ages. Did mine when I bought the car three years ago as a temporary solution (Luke didn't sell these bits back then) and am only now needing to replace one or two small sections. :) Cheers! Danny

Car decal measurements required
Hi guys! Could somebody please help me? I need the measurements (in mm please) of the decals that a lot of people have down the side of their doors. Your help is much appreciated! Thanks! Danny

K + N or APEXI? Help
Badbry - I've still got 2 A'PEXi's left - £100 + £5 postage. For the money you won't find a filter with better filtration and flow-through properties and performance gain. Let me know if you want one. Cheers! Danny

John Dixon "heard" ...
Hey John! "Heard" you going up the A456 (just past the round about with the ringroad) in Kidderminster this past Saturday. I was stuck by the big church heading towards the island and first heard you before I saw you. Bloody loud zorst mate ... no wonder you had the window open - must be shear madness inside! I wasn't in the Zed so you wouldn't have seen me. See you soon! Regards, Danny

In-car computer install. Advice needed!
(allegedly) reverse engineered ConZult but less functional, less user friendly and without support ... but not that I'm bitter ... :x: "Carputers": Best kit I've seen fitted in a Z32 was a custom build PC box fitted under the passenger seat hooked up to a hi-res flip-out tft screen in the dash (part of a headunit). Track bal mounted in the ashtray together with an on/off/reset button. Customised ConZult monitoring screen commissioned and also satnav. Very nice but only one downside ... a week after finishing the install the car was burgled and everything taken. So, if you're going to do this then I suggest you do it as covert as possible. Good luck Leigh!

02 sensors just got exhaust gas analyse
This won't help you at the present time but I - DTA-Motorsport (UK) - will be selling brand new O2 sensors for roughly half to two-thirds the price that Nissan quotes. We've got the correct sensors and just need to source the correct connectors and we're off! My guess is that it will be another month before this is sorted completely and ready for sale. Stay tuned - news to be posted on the website and in our trade section on this forum. Hope the clean up has sorted your problem. Regards, Danny

Strut Brace
Hey guys, Chris is right - Cusco only do rear strut braces for the Z32 (due to fitting problems with he front one ...) I can supply front and rear braces for £130 per pair. They are made of highly polished aluminium and look/fit great. I can get them chromed but this will be at an additional charge (not everybody can chrome aluminium easily). Have a look at the attached pic. Cheers! Danny

FAO: Website designers/gurus
Thanks very much for all the feedback guys - I will be in touch with the various individuals probably tonight or tomorrow. It's good to see that I'm not completely silly and asking the impossible (for once ...) Many thanks! Danny

FAO: Website designers/gurus
Hiya! I'm trying to redesign/rebrand the DTA-Motorsport (UK) website (... trying being the operative word here and not being very successful at that ...) Have a couple of questions to ask of any webdesigners out there: (1) My MS FrontPage has now frustrated me to such an extend that it has now been uninstalled from my PC never to be given another chance. I'm now looking into using MacroMedia DreamWeaver MX as an authoring tool. I know nothing about this package but am willing to put money on the fact that it's got to be infinitely better than the MS crap. Does anyone have a source where this package can be bought for significantly less silly money than the current going rate? (Cheeky ... I know ... but you don't get unless you ask ;)) (2) I need the new website to look the same across different browsers (IE, Netscape, Linux, etc). What is involved in getting this done with the minimum effort? Is there something that checks which browser is being used and then loads the appropriate version? Or do I need to develop different websites, load a splash screen where the client clicks a button saying "IE", "Netscape", etc and then the appropriate site is loaded? Please tell me it is easier than that ... (3) I would also like to incorporate something that automatically resizes the website to suite the resolution of the client's monitor. I.e, I need to be able to display the same information at 640x480, 1024x ..., etc. Again, can this be done (easily), will I need an application which can check the client's resolution and load accordingly, or am I talking out of my hairy ar*e ...? (4) How do I dictate what size a new window should be? I.e., client clicks on a pic, link opens a new window showing a larger version of the pic and some details. I want that window to be a specific size and not "maximised". I think that's it for now ... I'm sure I'll think of something else as soon as I click "submit". Thanks in advance for any/all feedback. Cheers! Danny "B*gger I hate FrontPage" Zaat

I Want Stickers!!
Know what you mean Mark - you'll never see any stickers on my car either - but people seem to want them ... I've contacted a few of the companies direct and none of them have a steady supply of decals - something which is very important and that has caused me great trouble in the past - so I'm going to to another (local) source. As for copyright -v- advertising, Nissan has explicitely refused me permission to use their "NISMO" logos and even "300ZX" was too much for them. I tried going down the advertising route but they were having none of it ...

I Want Stickers!!
Hey Matty! I'm actually in the process of sorting this out (as another product to add to the increasing DTA-Motorsport product line). Should be hearing back from the guy who's doing these for me by the weekend. I'm hoping to have a load of these done for Billing. Was thinking three colours: Black, White, Silver. What do you think? There's a small issue of copyright, etc which I need to get around but nothing is impossible so stay tuned! By the way - did you fit the strut braces yet? Cheers bud! Danny

ATTN. Greg Goldrick
Hi Greg, I'm afraid there is no other way for me to contact you. I have received your e-mail regarding the speedo rings and have attempted four times to reply but my messages keep being returned with the following error code: FYI: I should have another batch of speedo rings in stock in about two weeks. Can you please give me a call on 07044016586 or e-mail me again with a contact number so that I can contact you. Thank you. Regards, Danny

TEIN HA's
What I know about Tein HA's: Coilover suspension, adjustable ride hight, very firm setting (specifically produced for track days) and may thus be too firm for our UK roads. Generally understood to be one of the best suspension kits money can buy (but very expensive). HTH

T P S adjustment
Dave, This should be a 2 minute job with your ConZult. (1) Hook up the ConZult (2) Run engine (3) Go into "Idle/Throttle adjustment" screen on the ConZult software (4) Undo (but do not remove) the two screws securing the TPS (5) Turn the TPS unit clockwise/anti-clockwise until the voltage is just below the point where the "closed throttle/position" switches from off to on (this should be at roughly 0.42~0.44V) (6) Tighten up the screws (making sure the voltage doesn't change) and Job Done! NB - when turning the TPS you'll notice the point where the "closed throttle/position" goes from "off" to "on" because the revs will raise to about 1100 rpm. You want to set the TPS to the position just before this raise in rpms occurs. Hope this helps fella! Regards, Danny

I Made It Back From France!!
Matty, I've got your speedo rings and your strut braces are inbound (due to be delivered by end of next week). Give me a call to arrange a day/time to meet up. Glad to see you've made it back nice and relaxed. I'm off to Prague in a week and a half for our first wedding aniversary (short break only) - can't believe she hasn't killed me (yet) ... ;) Speak soon fella! Danny

B&B Triflow
I have looked into buying a Triflo for my own car a year or so ago but didn't go down that route in the end due to the excessive cost. You can only get this exhaust by ordering directly from the US company (or via someone who stocks them like Z1 Motorsport in Chicago). Price wise you're looking at roughly £1100 delivered to the UK (plus any duty and vat). Exhaust wise you will only be able to put on the 2+2 version they make for the NA (this uses a 2.5" pipe and not 3" as for the TT 2+0). In it self not too much of a problem but for the hardcore power addicts this will not offer much improvement over the stock TT exhaust or indeed a Mongoose. These exhausts are extremely loud. My business associates have this system on their Z's and at TRAX some years ago were not allowed onto the track because they were over the legal noise limit at idle (!) When driving the car there is a massive resonance "spot" between 2.5k - 3k rpms which is where you will be at a lot of the time. I could personally not put up with that level of noise especially if your car is your daily driver. I'm not trying to put you off buying this exhaust but just giving you my opinion based on my personal experience. B+B Trifo's are definitely the best sounding exhausts in my opinion but (a) have their cost against them and (b) could be too loud for most people's liking. I am currently putting together a custom cat-back exhaust which, if successful, I will be selling under the DTA-Motorsport brand in due course. I'm trying to attain the sound of the B+B's but without the excessive noise inside the car. I will know more in about three weeks time when the first system is fitted to my car. Hope the above is useful info. Regards, Danny

PM service disapeared... ???
Just logged on to the forum to check a few PM's that have come in (as indicated by an e-mail alert) only to find that the PM service has disappeard? Can't see it at the top of the screen (where it shows how many messages you've got) nor in the user cp section. What's going on? Cheers! Danny
