Bit of a bright spark!!
Here's my next post I've got a horse box which I have recently fixed the small starter motor on the on board generator. this afternoon I was pulling out the gen and to achieve this I had to remove the live and earth leads and pull them through a hole. Now I'm not stupid..well I suppose this post might disagree... so I used the isolator key to isolate the battery, so carried on, now I was not to know the power to the generator bypassed the isolator and went straight to the 2 x 19" long batteries. Yep.. as I pulled the wires the live and earth touch, not briefly, but forced together by the narrowing to the hole. Well sparks flew, wires got welded, and from the batteries on my left, crackled and banged with loads of smoke, got the leads separated and prised on battery terminal off (to be safe) . So what happened in the battery area and what might have gone bang, have the batteries gone fubar! or would a terminal have disintegrated. I didn't have time to spend th 20 mins to gain decent access and I didn't have a torch as its dark under there. Any electricians out there care to make a guess... Rich

Jacks and Oil
Got a few posts to do to get some opinions, here's the first... My trolley jack (3 foot long) has got a problem, when jacking up the front or rear, does about 2-3 strokes with full lift, then the arm just goes about 70 degrees with no lift or back pressure and then only in the last 20 deg does it try to lift. this then carries on like this. My local parts store says its low on oil and needs topping up , but must only use "non foaming jack oil" which is not in, and he says it may only need a thimble full, Is this a fair diagnostic, and is he right about this jack oil, could I use "tool oil" which I use on my oil tools? Any opinions gratefully.... you know the rest... Rich

Stainless Steel Exhaust
This is a custom made exhaust which came with the car I bought, its a tad loud as I have fitted S/S front pipes which effectively makes it a straight through... Now I wouldn't expect you to buy these and slap them on your car, but if you have some ideas and want to add some boxes.. or use the rear pipes.. I don't know, failing that, would a scrap yard buy them for the s/s, anyone done that before... Rich

Seriously, if you go to http://www.buyee.jp they will search on the yahoo auction site and buy it on your behalf (£4 charge ) then once the seller has posted it to their warehouse, they ship it internationally to UK, for a charge. Rich

Well I think he deserves a F ing medal, I have been looking for those centre caps for years with no luck, I did find a set of 4 for sale in USA, but they wanted £100....and I just won the auction to buy a set of 4 for 1500 Yen. that's £8 to us ... rise up to £20 with postage, not a bad deal.... Simon, I don't know what to say... not only some caps (which I could have modified,) but you actually find the ones I'm looking for, and have been for years.. I've never heard of these Japanese auction sites, amazing. top marks. Rich ps mind you, if you look at the middle picture of the caps, it looks like they're flat on the table... clips removable?...

nuts, caps whatever....
I have a set of rims that have a large circular "cap" that covers the bolt holes and then a smaller threaded "cap" with a lge hex head, I think the pictures explain it better, the red caps have a sparco emblem, trying to get more or these has been impossible, however when I look at the red cap the emblem disc comes out so another one could go in, red cap is 70mm across flats with approx. 63mm thread. I need 2 of each, has anyone got anything that even resembles these caps, also, what id the official name for these so I can search more effectively. Rich
