Pop out no' 1 plug,turn crankshaft until the lower mark (don't go by the lightweight pulley marks if it has em') on the belt sprocket is lined up with the mark on the casing.Using a long probe (long screwdriver will do) check no'1 piston is at the top of it's stroke.Rocking the engine forward and back will ket you feel when it's at TDC.Deffo a check worth doing mate or you could be chasing your tail!

Meant to add, deffo set on no'1 tdc?

It would with a bit of throttle.......

Gonna' be something really silly I reckon,like the Cas connector,PTU etc.Deffo sounds like ignition prob.Is the loom in decent nick? any iffy wires on the Ptu harness? Daft question but have you checked the ignition timing with a gun?-should get a idea cranking it.
