Musicians- what you involved in?
Looks like there's a few musicians amongst us... just out of interest what is it you all do? Me to start with... It's more of a hobby than an earner, but I play keys, and my main passion is dance stuff, particularly fond of Big-Beat, but since I got all the kit I needed (analogue modelling synths and the like) I haven't had the time to do much of that. A few years ago a bunch of us at work formed a band to earn some extra pocket-money- we do covers of soul, funk, and some disco. So... What about everyone else? :) Mark

White residue!
I've noticed in the last few weeks that white reside has been streaking up from the front of the bonnet. Thought I had a coolant leak, until I looked under the bonnet and found no evidence of any residue anywhere... Looked a bit more closely and realised my nose panel wasn't square- the front of the bonnet just caught it as it closed and this had gradually worn away the paint on the top of the nose panel. This exposed the primer, which water was picking up in wet weather and smearing it up the bonnet. Quick application of touch-up paint should sort it out... :D Mark

home audio recording
Creative Labs stuff is good value for an all-in-1 solution but IMHO it's not exactly pro-audio quality, and their software will take over your whole system! Drives me mad... If you have hi-spec requirements (sounds like you do) I'd avoid it. I'm a bit behind the curve at the moment though, so I can't recommend anything...

Omg
I was boycotting them anyway coz of their awful adverts, but that was sick :( Funnily enough a friend at work was saying only today that even "free-range" chickens only has to mean they're not confined to a specific space, and often means they're still packed in to a small area collectively i.e. like in those sheds. Might listen to my girlfriend and take more notice of the welfare of the animals we eat! Mark

ATV Crash Video
Can't get the links up at work, but if it's the one I've seen before then he did- his hard had got sucked through first and trashed the engine so by the time he went through himself he didn't get badly mangled, considering! There's a version of the video clip where they show him being interviewed afterwards, somewhat bandaged...

Big problem ... any ideas / advice ?
Things like this can be demoralising, but to anyone who hasn't bought yet, the bad stories stand out- there are plenty of people out there who are more than happy with their motors! :D Mark

size of speakers in the doors?
I installed 6.5" components the weekend just gone. I got Alpines which came with sandwich plates for up or down sizing. I drilled out the spot welds securing the stock speaker mount to the door speaker panel and just screwed the sandwich plate in place. Then screwed the in new speakers. It also came with various tweeter brackets- mounted them in the top of the doors but I have noticed that with the windows up you get much more treble reflected than with the windows down! If you mount the tweeters on the dash you may not have this problem, but it's a bit more tricky to do neatly as you can't get under the dash without a bit of effort. Need to upgrade my rear 4x6s to 6x9s to fill out the bass. Won't be going with a sub- need the boot space! :slap: Mark

Driver's side electric window- power amp

D'oh!
Got it sorted. It's a real pain to get the door handle off. With gentle maneouvring and only a few scrapes it came out. I didn't swap the passenger bit over tho- I found that the strip of metal you usually get with a new car stereo is perfect for working your own replacement. It's actually a hole and a slot alternately, but if you fold it over so that the end of each slot lines up with a hole then from one hole to the end of the following slot is just about the right distance (see attached pic!). Then it was a case of drilling out the holes a little (6.5mm I think) and using a small hacksaw to make the slots to fit the key barrel. I think it's either ever-so-slightly shorter than the plastic bit, or (more likely) the plastic bit had a slight angle in it. So it works just fine, but the action is a bit different- you have to turn the key more to lock it than you do to unlock it. :) Mark

I'm nice and grubby now! Managed to do... Fixed the driver's door lock (plasitc bit had broken; found a handy piece of metal the right size) Replaced the clock with one that works Managed to get the driver's electric window working- not sure how! Replaced the door top rubbers with nice supple new ones Installed component speakers in the doors Need a beer... :duffer: Mark

Driver's side electric window- power amp
My driver's side window is poorly and having stuck a multimeter on the window amplifier output I reckon it's feeling poorly. :( Anyone got a wiring diagram of the amplifier internals? I might make my own replacement, but I'm not quite sure how to get the one-touch operation... (Will trawl the rest of this and other forums later today) Mark

D'oh!
Well that's just great! Got the doors in bits, screws, nuts, door trim everywhere and it starts to pi$$ down, FFS! :headvswal It's a bit of a bu99er to do! It's the plastic bit in question, and I managed to fish out the connecting rod to disconnect the broken bit. And using torches and socket extensions I managed to un-mount the handle, but right now I can't quite figure out how to get the handle assembly out far enough to fiddle with the back of the barrel. Got some component speakers to mount inside the car... maybe I can do that till the sun comes out again :) Mark

Just how reliable are Z's
I've had to count my clutch coz it was the rear crank seal failing that made my clutch go! Also needed a prop bearing and steering rack bushes. Lots of minor things apart from that. I like the way that £201 in a year is considered major! LOL that's optimism
