  1. I have an '02 330d which may be the same engine or yours may be a slightly later development. Economy is over 40mpg on the 30 mile return journey to work which is mainly country roads. Dunno what it is on the motorway yet, but I'm expecting similar. Performance can be pretty good compared with most 'normal' cars - the torque is on par with a TT Z although it's obviously down on power. Reliability seems pretty good. It also has a cam chain not belt, so servicing costs are reasonable, but it will munch tyres. Lots of them are chipped/remapped/messed with but as with all there good/bad solutions, so find out who did the tuning. Van Aaken are good for chip/tuning box, Pendle Performance have a good reputation for the remap of the standard ECU, which as far as I can tell is the best solution. There are bound to be dozens of others.
  2. Don't see what the problem was ? However, that's not something the Mods can change.
  3. Done. Thanks.
  4. I recently retired my diesel Xantia and got a BMW 330d. I'm not a BM fan, but the engine is fab. After being remapped it'll have as much torque as my Z !!!!
  5. Couldn't believe what I was watching ....
  6. The thing I don't really understand .... If they can't correctly identify the driver, then who gets the double points, both of you ?
  7. That is really just a symptom of a badly designed exhaust. From memory we're talking about the Bennouli (spelling?) principle here, which basically says that if you increase the diameter you slow the gas velocity, if you decrease it then you increase the gas velocity. Obviously, if you take this to it's logical conclusion the you could say that a smaller exhaust is better - wrong. The reason being that the volume of the pipe is increased as well, therefore the same volume of gas moves except at a different rate. Where you run into problems is when the input doesn't match the capability of the output, this is what people like Leon (and hopefully most exhaust designers) understand. The only reason to have long exhausts is to avoid burning the front of the car (and to make room for big silencers) ! Think about drag cars with those metre long tubes and flames coming out the end ...
  8. Has the boost controller been installed correctly with the two turbos Tee'd together ?
  9. It's on either a tapered or a splined shaft, so expect it to be stuck and require a little persuasion.
  10. Agreed - get that filthy burnt mess to the outside world ASAP so there's room for more nice new stuff !
  11. I always maximise the excess in order to minimise the premium. It's about risk management and cost avoidance - why pay for something up front that you will probably never use ?
  12. Mmmmmm, nice ....
  13. De-cat doesn't make much difference to the noise when you have turbos.
  14. It's possible to run about to about 12psi without a remapped ECU, but it's more risky than not having it done. You will need to listen out for detonation, especially on warm days.
  15. Funny you should mention that ! LOL http://www.300zx.org.uk/ecu_maps.htm
  16. At 12psi you're right on the edge of what the standard map can handle, so you should get your ECU chipped for safety.
  17. I bought some from Fleabay and they were utter crap. Didn't seat properly, didn't light up properly and didn't project the light in the right places to be seen properly from behind. Put the standard bulbs back.
  18. A few people have made similar mistake, but with 2nd hand parts from someone like AndyZ you ought to be able to get it sorted.
  19. Clean ? Mine ? Blimey, must be the only time I washed it this year !!!! :D
  20. Fixed. And I think you may have inadvertently helped me understand why this happens.
  21. You can do a lot worse then Dell. Assuming that your PC will run for long enough to order from their web page !
