performance battery
In case anyone is interested, just went down my local Motaquip (helpful couple of geezers who know their sh1t) and got a Platinum battery for £31 + VAT. 70AH, 570CCA with a 2 year guarantee. Was interesting to note that they can also supply one with a 4 year guarantee. I was tempted because I thought it would be better, but matey checked and informed me it was an identical battery, but with a National rather than a local return policy, difference would have been about another £15.

performance battery
So what about a pair of Hawker SBS60's wired in parallel. Would provide a capacity of 102AH, about 500A for 2 minutes are less affected by cold than std lead/acid batteries. £35 each incl. postage at :- http://www.bullnet.co.uk/shops/test/batterie.htm Specs: http://www.hawker.invensys.com/product/content/pdf/product17.pdf Not sure whether the charging cycle would be right from a std car system though .... any thoughts ?

NZR Calling All Puta Wizzards!!!!!!!!!
Didn't mean like that you tart ! Just turning the case over may have done the trick if the disk had decided not to spin up. ;) As the machine is about 3 years old I'd guess you have something like a 20GB disk, so something similar would be fine, but you could probably get a larger one pretty cheaply now. Have a look at http://www.dabs.com or http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly etc

NZR Calling All Puta Wizzards!!!!!!!!!
It could well be that the hard disk had just stuck and you bashing it about while taking the cover off etc freed it up, so next time you turned it on it worked. It's not unusual for a disk to croak after three years, it might be worth buying another of and copying all yoiur stuff over, while it's still working, or failing that start taking backups of the stuff you really need !

How Much Brake Fluid does the Brake system hold?
Surprisingly little actually, but you waste tons in getting all the air out. 2 litres should be more than plenty.

For those with duff batteries...
Mine packed up on the way home tonight and had to pretty much abandon the car in a snowdrift ! Now I have the hassle of getting a new battery (tomorrow) - bummer

Clean exhausts?
$8 they certainly are not - more like $60 I think. I was all set up to do mine, it was even the easy side (passenger), but in the end SE did it at the same time the gearbox was swapped over - dead easy to get to then.

Clean exhausts?
You're looking at around £65 ea in the UK. Changing them is a bit of a pig, you really need a special tool, plus arms like a spider monkey. Also helps if the car is an auto (no clutch m/c in the way) Diagnostic info: http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/O2s.html http://www.aus300zxclub.com/tech/o2.htm

Clean exhausts?
You're right, the basic ECU test only tells you whether they're completed dead. You need a Techtom/Consult/ConZult to suss it out properly and even that can involve a bit of guess work as they often tend to get lazy before that actually completey fail. I had to replace one of mine and it immediately made a difference to the fuel consumption and the colour of that exhaust. An emissions check will also help to diagnose the problem, but that doesn't always make the cause obvious.

Clean exhausts?
Mine certainly get a bit grubby after a couple of weeks. Will always be worse with short journeys, cold weather etc. Autosol, made by Solvol is what I use.
