vin number
Jap cars don't have a 'VIN' as such, people tend to use the chassis number. eg GCZ32-5nnnnn The model number eg KRGZ32JASHE7 is not unique (as far as I know) and only really describes the spec of the car.

Fitted twin induction,what time
Poor running is not due to the ECU learning, that must have been down to a problem with one or more sensors, which fixed themselves - eg bad electrical connections on temp sensor and FICD.

Heavy Clutch???
I'm afraid I couldn't disagree more, I have a turbo and the clutch, when working correctly, is very light for such a powerful car. If yours is very heavy then you either have a problem of some sort or a very serious aftermarket clutch.

talking nice saves the day
Try that trick in the US and you will have a gun in your face before you've finished opening the door. You sit tight, you keep your hands on the wheel where they can see them and when they ask to see you licence you tell them which pocket you're about to remove it from - and you do it slowly. Been there, done that !

Oooh Errrr!
All possible combinations yield the same symbol - try picking two sets of two digit numbers - they will both have the same symbol. It's a mathematical progression.

CSB woes...
Did you get the gearbox support fixed at the same time - that sags and causes the prop to run out of true. Also, did they put the prop back in the same position, in other words did they mark it and line up the same bolt holes as before etc ?

quote for centre bearing
Sadly, my mechanic went on a round the world trip about 9 months ago and isn't back yet. Fortuntely I haven't needed his services recently. My recomendation would be to call Mike Feeney at MJP and get him to recommend one of his local contacts.

Lifesure
Lifesure for me too, classic policy, 9000m per year, only car, garaged, age 39, import, intake & exhaust mods - £400. Lots will depend upon postcode though.

My mechanic changed it in under an hour, which included removing one side of the exhaust ! It's worth doing the gearbox mount at the same time, only takes a few minutes extra - costs about £50 from MJP.

This is gonna stir up a real hornets nest...
One day I'll remember where I stole this :- The 4 speed automatic transmission is a lockup type. When in drive mode, gears change 1-2-3 then 3 lockup, giving the effect of 4 gears. When overdrive (4th) is switched in, the change goes 1-2-3-4 then 4 lockup, giving the effect of 5 forward gears. There is a communications link between the automatic transmission control computer and the engine management computer, and this amongst other things, allows the engine computer to retard ignition, thus momentarily reducing engine power, during auto gear changes. Auto gear changes therefore are very smooth. The automatic transmission fitted to the turbo model is stronger than the one installed in the non turbo. Although the gear ratios are almost identical, there are many minor differences between the two transmissions. The Japanese automatic transmission has many more features than the export models. A "power", "normal" and "hold" switch is fitted to modify transmission shift points. The effect of the "power" setting is to delay upshifting, but does not alter the maximum RPM that change occurs. In order to change at the red line or rev limiter speed, one must operate the shifter manually. The hold setting allows holding prevents downshift into second when the shifter is set to "D", and prevents downshift into first when the shifter is in "2". Another curious feature with the Japanese version is that lock up is also available in second gear.

If that includes the gearbox mount as well as fitting then it's not too bad. If not, then make sure they grease it before they bend you over !

Let me know the sizes (even just the tyre sizes would do). I have a mate with a BMW 5 series with very unusual (metric I think) sized wheels and he desperately needs a set of the more common ones to save paying about £250 per tyre !
