Yes, you will need to remove the brake pads, plus you will probably have to push the pistons in a bit too.

A small leak won't make much difference to general running (except tickover perhaps), as the engine flows a huge quantity of air. Obviously, no leaks are better though.

This sounds like an intermittent electrical connection problem to me.

To change the odometer as well you either need UK clocks, or maybe the odo from a UK car, but I've not tried that yet. I think that the gearing is different. Or, you use one of the speedo converter boxes, which messes with the signal before it gets into the clock (and also potentially confuses the ECU).

They have their own rating system and if people disappear and then come back with a new name then we won't know until it's too late anyway. It means there's about 50 fewer joins to leak afterwards ! You probably can do it with the plenum on, but it'll be a bit easier with it off. Could dump the EGr at the same time too.
