Respray quality
Just got back from speaking to my mate who's a partner/mechanic at the first garage and told him what I intend to do with the car as in an independent inspeaction and if it's at fault, small claims court. He was gutted it's come to this but totally understands where I'm coming from. The really amusing thing is his business partner wants to take me to court but for what he had absolutely no idea :wack: lol I just laughed, even Tommy Cooper never had a better joke than that!!!

MEsh Fitting to WW
Went to Halford on Saturday, no sign of plastic coated mesh :( the only black one they had was obviously painted as it was coming off and was pretty flimsy :(

Bodyshop questions :(
Cheers bud. It never shocks me how far some people are up there own backsides!! I can't get my head round how they think it's a top notch job. I'll hopefully know more over the weekend when I hope to have a painters opinion on it :)

Mate, that's my next step - small claims court! I've really had enough so am taking control of the situation where I can ;)

Bodyshop questions :(
Hi Rich, I know my issue is with the first garage and they are moving the car from the second garage. I just wondered if they have any right to dump the car back with me when I'm not happy with the work. Vijay

Bodyshop questions :(
I assumed they normally polish and wax the car but believe it or not, they told the original garage that I should wax it to protect the paint!!!! lol

Bodyshop questions :(
Hi, Just a couple of things I want/need to know. As I'm disputing the quality of work done on my respray, do the garage have a legal obligation to keep my car safe and secure untill it's resolved? When a bodyshop paints a car, after the paint has dried do they normally polish and wax the paint? If parts are missing or broken, do they have a duty to supply new parts or can they just give you secondhand ones? Sure there's more but my mind has gone blank will all this crap :( Vijay

Car sitting for 20 months
Cheers guys. Not overly worried as it does start and is a bit rattly at first but once oil gets into the lifters quietens down. My point is if I do end up taking the garage to a small claims court I want to be prepared with any additional info such as any issues with my car sitting for what will probably be 2 years ;) Vijay

Car sitting for 20 months
Hi, Just on from my other post about my respray, would any mechanical damage occure from a car sitting for 20 months (and will be longer by the time it gets sorted) and only being started a handfull of times? Cheers Vijay

Cheers Rob, that will come in handy as it looks like I'll be going down that route. Good news for me :) I called the first garage as they didn't call me yesterday. The second garage are not backing down and say it's a good job and I should accept it. I have refuse to accept the job and will not take my car back. They are now going to move to the car into a differnt lockup and I will arrange for someone to look at the car and tell me what they think. Based on that I will be getting a proper inspection and report done and give the first garage the findings. They then either pay for it to be put right or we go on to a small claims court for them to sort the matter. I'm contemplating getting a mechanical report done too as Pete hilighted the possibility of mechanical problems due to it sitting for 20 months. What's your thoughts on that? Cheers Vijay

well the only think I get when I started it is noisy tappets but that goes after it's warmed up for a while. I trust my mechanic 100% and if there are any engine problems, I know he'll sort it out himself as that's something he has control over ;)

it starts first turn of the key and it got started now and again, but probably not more than 10 times over the last 20 months, not been driven at all :(

Oh right. Well my car was stripped back to bare metal for the second time last July and since then it's sat in a garage and had the filler work done to it in bits and pieces when people turned up. So by April/May of this year, the car was in shape but had surface rust and all panels need going over with filler/stopper. They originally were gonna charge £2.5k to spray the car but when they got it, decided the bill was then £4.5k so they can't moan about not charging for the prep work!!!

Cutting lead pipe
lol, Mark was is that obvious, it's what they deserve!!! ;) I've got a wizzer in my garage and I never even knew! lol
-
Cutting lead pipe
pretty certain it's 4" but thinking about what you just said, at the the moment the flat above is PVC which comes down into my mates shop, it then has an adapter which fits on the outside of the PVC pipe but goes into the lead pipe, that makes me think the lead pipe must be smaller than the 4" PVC pipe. If that's the case, I'll put a normal join on the PVC pipe and extend that down to where I cut it, then I'll use that original adapter at the join.

lol, Stella that'd be enough to scare anyone! I'm waiting on a call today as they promised and I'm also writing down everything that's said so if it goes to court I have details of everything. Somehow I don't think I'll get a call so I'll call them tomorrow and tell them they have till the end of the week to decide. If they don't sort it, thinks will be done in writing and I will explain my intentions. Enough is enough!

I don't think I'm going to view the car again. If they agree that the car is to a good standard I think the next step is to get in an independant accesor to look at the car and based on his/her opinion will depends where I'll go. Think the way to go might be small claims court as that's up to £5K. Guess it depends on what they agree tomorrow..............................
