  1. I bought some of this yesterday and did a panel on the Z last night. I think its much better than Autoglym whcih I have used for years. The finish is superb and it seemed to take less effort too. Dont use it if you dont like the smell of bananas though!

I think your right. Houghtons use Norton i beleive for classic policy. Quoted me £750 for 7k limited mileage on a second car. I'm 29 and NCB since they day I passed my test at 17 ! 3 points on licence, garaged in nice rural postcode. I was expecting about £400. Its an import with Tein suspension and 18's. No other mods. I think they ask for your best quote so far and then under cut it by £20 or so.
  3. I have Jap import tucked away in garage ready to start with mods. I know i need to upgrade engine oil coller and switch autobox cooler to exisitng engine oil cooler. I read somewhere though that the Jap import has no diff oil cooler. Is that right and is it important to fir one ?
  4. I can get a custom exhaust made up for minimal cost. However not being one for a silly loud exhaust do I need to put some form of back boxes in to reduce the noise ? has anyone got a straight through ( Cat Back ) on their car ? How loud is it ? What diameter should I run from cat back ? Lastly, I undersand the Jap import has some form of 'choker' ???? in the exhaust, what is it, where is it, should I remove it and how do I if I should ? Apologies for all the questions at once.
  5. J specs do not have rear fog lights fitted as standard. To make it Uk legal rear fogs hav to be fittted. I have a switch under he dash for my and use the exisitng rear lights for now.
  6. has anyone got any pics of this mod on a black Z ? Whats the general view on this mod ?
  7. just browsing the site over lunch and discovered this funny thread and thought better add my two peneth. quite few years back, while standing and admiring my shiny new motor with a few friends I thought they would appreciate a demo of the alarm( heaven knows why 1 ), So I pressed the button ( while the keys were in the ignition ) and shut the car door. Needless to say they appreciated the humor of my immense stupidity. However that soon wore off when they had to drive me the 10 miles and back to my house to obtain the spare set of keys ! Not content with that effort a repeated a similar feat with a new TVR chimeara a couple of years ago. I had locked my keys in the sealed boot unit (no access to it form inside the cockpit ) not a problem as i had the spares, unlocked the car lent into the boot to retrieve the keys and while there noticed my CD changer was loose, so i fixed it and content with my repair shut the boot. This time with both sets of keys in it !!!!!!!!! not that really is alarming. A call to the local dealer revealed how easy it is to break into a TVR boot with a single small screw driver. It took me less than a minute to achieve it. Thank god for pants british build quality.
  8. car had 80k on the clock or so. was about 7 yrs old. I had the thing sorted out within about 3 weeks of it starting to smoke.

I had a 90 UK manual a few years back and have recently got a 92 jap import Auto and frankly i cant tell the difference if there is one.
  10. I can only suggest getting someone to look at it. ( sounds like jeff at zedworld is the man ) My old one drove fine and had full boost but gradually the smoking got worse. If you had the turbos reconditioned it seems odd but not impossible for them to go again. I sold my about 8 months after i had them done, about 7k miles and there were no signs of problems. iI had them uprated and was warned that they may not last that long.
  11. I tried Norton. Basically its a limited mileage second car policy. does not acrue any NCB or lose any either. Pretty rigid terms too. I am curious James300, how it was so cheap, is yours a UK model, no mods ? Are you over 60 or something ? When I phoned them I was quoted £750. I'm 29, 10yrs NCB, 3pts ( guess what for !) garaged, nice post code. Driven Lotus, TVR's and Z's in the past too. Mine is an import TT with Tein suspension and 18's. Other than that as standard as it comes. The other car I have is Lexus 300 sport and cant insure that for anything sensible without NCB. I paid less than £600 for 90TT manual UK car whni was 22 ! So much for it getting cheaper when you get older !!!!
  12. I had 90 TT about 6 years ago and it did exactly the same thing. After driving and letting it idle it let out white and blue smoke, this gradually got worse and became evident when driving along as well. It was only from one bank to start ( cant remember which ) but got worse. Basically it was the turbo seals ( had 80,000 on the clock ). If it smokes blue and smokes often get it sorted before they shatter. The place that sorted mine said the one side was far worse than the other. The other problem with the oil getting through is it ruins the cats and mine just fell apart after. I had the exisitng units rebuilt and uprated cost about £500 I think but the removal and refit is the expensive bit. If it smells of oil and keeps smoking it it sounds pretty much like the seals to me from past experience.
  13. I need to replace my passenger side door lock barrel. I have th bits already. Anyone done this before , any instructions anywhere to follow ?
  14. Im looking around to insure my Jap import. best I've found so far is Tett Hamilton. around a 1/4 less than all the others I have tried. Anyone know why imports are more expensive to insure ?
  15. Sure this has been asked many times before but as a newbie, here we go again. Where is best to start trying for insurance ? Under 30, just and with Full NCB. Car has moded suspension and wheels all else is standard (for now).
  16. My new import has a cracking sound set up already in it. Someone has built an excellent shelf that slots into the original screen holders and is hinged half way so you can lift and gain access to the boot. Very well made indded Anyway to the point. I will try and get some pics on here for you to see. Basically has two 6x9 slotted in and a rather large amp in bbetween. I have a friend who is a chippy and can no doubt knock up a replica pretty easily. If anyone is interested could get them made up. Due to the width of the boot space and weight of the amp it requires some support from metal struts and does make it heavy and limits boot space. But it looks good sounds good and its to damn heavy for some little git to walk off with !
  17. Thanks guys. I think I'll go for an aftermarket unit. Any ideas on where and what to get and are they easy to fit ?
  18. I/ve just gone full circle and got my second Z. A 92 TT import. The oil pressure gauge is puzzling me. It varies its reding at the same RPM. I looked up normal readings and it will sit at this level for a while and increase under load as expected. Then it will just drop off to 0 at idel and under load increase to normal idle level. There is no smoking of any kind after driving and letting car run for a while, no burning oil smell, no oil leaks. Car runs full boost. Has 40k on the clock and very well looked after. Had a 90 Uk spec about 5 yrs ago and suffered the dreaded turbo seal failure. So I know the symptoms. Is this likley to be just the oil pressure sender switch ? If so anyone know how much a new one is and where to get it from. Just registred by the way.
