coolant freeze temp
hi guys. at what temperature would the correct mixture of water and anti-freeze for the Z actually freeze? i put about 100ml in a plastic tub, shoved it in a -15 degree freezer and it's frozen solid. i also still think my running temp is a touch too hot. would too thin a mixture cause it to freeze too early and get too warm? sounds like ive just answered my own question but i want to know your thoughts about it! :)

ok Andy thanks for your help  when plugging the clutch or brake booster, would these be the best places to plug them as per photo?

Short Shifter on ebay any good??
theyre as good as (actually i think most of them ARE) branded ones that are 3x the price! i got my short shifter and other stuff from this seller and had good service.

ok ive had a nosey around under the bonnet and i couldnt find anything obviously wrong. ive taken some photos of things im not sure about - can anyone identify what's going on? also, how the eff do you reach the top of the clutch pedal? do you need to remove trim around steering wheel cos ive tried getting my head in the footwell and reaching up but couldnt feel anything up there! i need to feel around to see if theres a dodgy vacuum pipe up there somewhere! Pic A - the rusty metal pipe in the centre of the photo. this is the driver's side. the passenger side one splits into two, and both ends are also rusted and don't go anywhere Pic B - the small plastic pot in the centre with NABOO on the cap! Pic C - this pipe goes into the bulkhead and is a loose fit, although there's plenty of clearance in the pipe it fits over. the other end disappears under the throttle cover (the pipe that passes over the U of TURBO in the picture) Pic D - there's nothing plugged into the brake fluid pot here, and what looks like a matching plug is lying around in an area below. does it need to be plugged in. (ive had an auto->manual conversion - will this have anything to do with it?) Also, from what you can see of the balance bar, which of the pipes feeds the clutch/brake servos?

what does everyone think of this
here's one! evening Ivan :duffer: at least, i had one ages ago while mine was an automatic. there's been numerous threads about the ALCs mate. if you do a forum search you'll get all the comments i'm sure. my 2p-worth though: great fun, very quick gearchanges, but your box won't last long unless its in good nick. mine wasnt, and it didnt. hence its manual now :hyper:

Should I go naked
i dont know if anyone's suggested this, but i'd say lose the spoiler and you'd have a cracking car. :) mine had an ironing board stuck to it many years ago (before it was even this colour) but im glad to say it didnt last long. this is the first pic ive seen of your motor though mate. very nice

fuel price demo hits roads
im amazed the stupid f**kers (our adorable government) arent doing something about it, following the results from the local elections. treading on thin ice, and all that.

fookin hell mate who pissed in your pint!? :( all we can do is give you advice based on our own experiences

Auto box advice
my honest opinion as someone who had the same problem. convert it. i miss slamming my right foot on the pedal and holding onto the steering wheel for dear life, but i much prefer manual. i enjoy the control, slamming the gears into place, and the direct feel of the power responding to my demand (this has gone a little S&M hasnt it! lol)

Insurance - how are you guys getting it so cheap!?
the answer is to shop around every single year. its a pain in the arse (tho some companies will keep your details and mod list etc. on file) but you can gradually work your premium down.

2 problems possibly related.
lol, only took 2 years to work it out! glad you sorted it. i can only dream of having such a cool-running car

How much coolant do you lose?
hey mate. i used halfrauds antifreeze so id expect it to be half decent (only half decent mind ;) ) - where would the evaporation go though? i thought it was a completely sealed system?

How much coolant do you lose?
hmm this is weird. over the last 3 weeks or so (touch wood), its not lost a drop!?!? since it was drained and filled, it used about a pint of coolant over a fortnight or so. now its not moving at all! maybe there was some trapped air after all...

sorry mate what i meant was the boost controller will not handle fuelling for you - thats the job of the ecu (or as in your case, the e-manage) though i agree that the Profec E01 is one of the best you can get (i got one too :) ) 17psi wont be ok even on a cold day as your injectors will not be providing enough fuel and it will run lean. seriously mate turn it down a tad before you decide where to go next. if you can afford to get your engine rebuilt and need an excuse to uprate the internals then by all means have a play and wait for it to go pop. and no disrespect to mainiac, but somethings not quite right in his case - there's a whole thread about it! :D EDIT: no need for a bigger fuel pump unless youre going for something like 850cc or above

lee-man, to safely push over 15psi you will need larger injectors, uprated turbos of some kind, uprated intercoolers, and an ecu remap (although as far as i know, the e-manage will handle that for you, though the Profec definately won't) - an aftermarket radiator will be a very good idea, and a reliable boost and water temp. gauge are also a must. getting boost up to 14/15psi is relatively cheap, but to push past that boundary safely costs a couple of £k's :( good luck.

quick profec e-01 gaph question
ah, RPM, i should have thought of that before :D :D :D ta Pete

quick profec e-01 gaph question
when on the line graph mode, what's the difference between the two lines - the thin one and the thick one? (and please dont say thickness! :p )

FAO Skylinedave...
she's on 11psi dropping off to 7psi at the moment. have been running it at that for the last 150 miles. when I reach my 2000th mile (!) i'll gradually build it up to 17psi. i won't do that until i get my number plate shifted from across the front bumper though :slap: im hoping for 450+ at the flywheel so your estimate looks spot on mate.
