  1. to correctly weld aluminium you really need a High Frequency TIG set, Tbh it depends on how strong you need the weld and the quality of the alloy you are trying :x: to weld. Got this advise from an alloy fabricators I use a lot in work.........HF tig set aren't cheap either. Pete
  2. B & Q........outside low voltage garden lights.........thats where I got mine from, 12v 13w sorted. can't remember how much they are, Pete
  3. Hi Bud, if you connect the DMM to the wires in the speedo cluster that correspond to the wires from the speed sensor then take a little drive then you'll know the wiring is ok (sorry cannot remember the colours ) see the online manual for the wiring.Personnally I'd plumb straight for the speedo as I've had speedo failure twice good luck Pete
  4. use the sykes pickavante flaring tool......comes with a DIN mandrel and 2 SAE mandrels using the 2 SAE mandrels one after the other puts the correct flange on for our cars........just had to do all this myself on my brakes I've had my flaring tool for many years but I think you can get them from Hal frauds.IIRC the standard brake pipe is 4mm soft copper available in 10m rolls from any motor shop. As for the nuts and fittings if you get the old ones off without deforming them (proper flared spanners are great for this)then simply cut the old pipe, remove the nut and use that on your new pipe........fittings aren't cheap when you total how many would be needed to to a complete brake circuit on our cars hope this helps Pete :)
  5. there are loads of smaller waterpipes under and fastened to the plenum,do a search for the water bypass, did mine whilst the plenum was off along with a number of other things. hope this helps Marcus Pete
  6. If you remove the speed sensor from the box and run a drill (slowly) on the shaft then connect a DMM to the wires ( leave connected to car wiring)you should see a varying voltage 0-5 volts IIRC.........not sure about removing from auto box.....may leak oil so be careful. Jeff at Zedworld offered me this pearl of wisdom and helped me track my speedo probs to the speedo cluster hope this helps guys Pete
  7. 80% of the brake pipes are clearly visible from just in front of the rear drivers wheel up to the abs and across to the passengerside......if more than one of these is badly corroded then I fail to see why the tester should list them individually Pete
  8. mgh297, I gotta do the rest of them before the mot cause i know it'll fail, can't understand why the japanese ran the piping etc so close to the wheels then covered with a plastic trim............just retains all the wet stuff and speeds up the corrosion. Bird, had you been closer mate I'd have given you a hand with the motor, welding and brakes not a problem----never had to any of my bushes yet but I'd give it a go. I think it fair to say to everyone else............check you brake lines, as I said earlier 2 of mine failed last saturday, try to going from 60 to 0 when the pedal suddenly hits the firewall is not funny, had to drive home at 25mph and allow loads of time to stop using the handbrake, luckily for me I was just out of town when they failed and not alot of traffic. Pete
  9. TBH if you can do the work yourself then the costs aren't too bad....not sure on the bushes tho, I 've just had to replace the 3 front to back brake lines on mine as 2 blew out at 60......no brakes oh sh1t. it cost me about £40 for the pipe and fluid and took me about 3 hrs to do.....It's a PITA to get at the abs connections but possible with the rear wheel off and the plastic covers......no need to remove anything else. oh and hire a brake pipe flaring tool for the weekend ......should only be a few quid. Pete
  10. me...........................
  11. happy days............Mine came in the post this morning .............cheers guys Pete
  12. can you check for me bud. yep mine used to. I also remember someone on here ages ago asking how to keep dip beam on with high beam like the Jspecs, they were given the link thats posted above. anyone got the lighting drawings for the jspec as I'm not sure the online manual is totally applicable. Pete
  13. Right guys could do with some help, before I rip the car to bits looking for this problem........I've done a search (loads of pages.....can't find the answer) Mine is a Jspec N/A and up until recently when I selected high beam then low beam remained on and high beam came on, but now low beam goes out(not good for HID's), reading the online circuit drawing implies that on/off is correct but it never used to do this and it's driving me nuts anyone had this happen to them, am I right in thinking the low and high beam should be on when the high beam switch is on. cheers Pete :headvswal
  14. Pete, there is a place in middlewich, cheshire that do all retrims etc.....I got my cream leather from them......reasonably priced, try http://www.martrim.co.uk. they got a workshop in middlewich and a warehouse in sandbach.....I've been in the warehouse, if they haven't got it then it's not made.just thought It may be closer for you Pete
  15. the prices don't seem too bad, I just paid(yesterday) £121 each for 2 255/40zr17 eagle f1's fitted and balanced, last year I paid £90 each for 2 falken f451's sized as above. I seem to remember reading on here that there is club discount with blackcircles.........could be wrong, ask MAC sure he'll know. Pete
  16. electrical engineer/ facilities manager
  17. dead easy matey, however small hand are an advantage cause it's best done from inside the car......thats what Luke recommended when I did mine anyway, took me about an hour from start to finish and that included fitting brass bushes instead of the normal nylon ones Pete :)
  18. Me too, externals please
  19. I'm sure a techie'll be along shortly, but check ptu and associated connectors injectors and associated connectors coil pack connectors temp sensor and connector Pete

  21. jesus, my missus is driving me mad, she wants a new motor, she knows what she wants so she says  . she doesn't want a zed (too big) but doen't want a run of the mill motor...................................she wouldn't mind a porsche( been here before ). so the quest is on for a half decent one, I like to consider myself more than capable of dealing with all things mechanical :D . missed a porker last year cause she ummed and arrghed, now last saturday found a 944 2.7 S2 very close to home for not alot of money :hyper: so took her to see it everything worked electrically................most unusual no tax ot test hole in sill........real easy repair and paint no other blemishes or scratches on the body needed a headlight and a good service with belts no problem I thought, she loved it and I thought " a weekends work " . gonna get serious brownie point for this .......more for my Z. so I was all set to buy it and she bottled out " Can I think about it" she said..ok no probsbut at this price don't think too long. She has spent all weekend talking herself out of it So last night I sat down with her and talked it through etc...." if she didn't like it we could sell it on" etc and make a few quid ( more for the z ) :hyper: in the end she agreed and I went tonight to buy it.......its sold next time I'll go with my gut feeling and not bother with her, sorry for the rant guys but I need somewhere to vent my anger, indecision on this scale really really winds me up especially when its at home. Pete
  22. thanks for that mate, your comments have all ready crossed my mind, makes my blood boil, if I was nearer then I'd pay a visit myself. Pete
  23. Hi Guys I bought a steering wheel from a fleabay trader in st judes plymouth.....arrive and found it not as described.......had an online agruement with this guy via email, eventually he agreed to refund the cost plus return postage.......now he's saying the wheel arrived damaged. it's really starting to pi$$ me off. Is there anyone in the area that would be prepared to visit this idiot and look at the supposed damage cause now I can't get my refund. YES I KNOW IT'S MY OWN FAULT,BEFORE EVERYONE CHIPS IN  Pete
  24. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll have a look into everything over the next day or two......If I get completly hacked off then the sony's goin back in and I'll source one of those usb/radio transmitter thingies that plugs into the lighter socket, Rich thanks for the offer, the units I got from Muplins are ground loop Isolators....so they said  . By the way I got my conzult but I'm tied up for the next few weeks unless you can get it up here or wait until you live up here.......give me time to learn a bit more.....so far I've worked out I need a left bank O2 sensor as It doesn't cycle above 2000 revs.....still not had time to sort out my own cars cutting out prob.
