Manual conversion and high idle?
One other thing to note, when using the neutral switch after a conversion the amount of revs it rises by when slipped into gear will be more than if you fitted a manual chip, in fact of you fit a manual chip the timing will be at 15deg even if the neutral switch is not connected. As far as any timing is concerned what ever it reads on a ConZult system is the timing it needs to be set at, seeing 25 deg and using a strobe to set it at 15deg is wrong and will give 10 deg retardation, always go with the ConZult reading and match it with the strobe light. Strange steering issue....
Check the steering rack bushes, did a tech thread some years back how when these wear out the rack can slip left and right instead of turning the wheels and hence the straight ahead position changes, after turning it fully one way it will slip back to the right place. Jeff TT

One for any auto electricians...
The problem is the circuit led lights require only a small forward current to light up, the led in the switch itself is of little resistance and will allow enough current to pass through when when switch off allowing the circuit leds to come on. Jeff TT

egr removal for an na
Depends upon why your removing it, if its a working egr valve but want to stop the function of the valve then simply remove the vacuum pipe that actuates it and block it off, takes around 1 minute and thats it finished. If you suspect the valve is not working correctly and causing running issues then removal with the engine in is not nice, check the valve operating diaphram first via the vacuum pipe and if ok ( lifts and drops) then just remove and block off the pipe....be so much easier. speed sensor help
Never heard of that one before, as both the auto and manual version have the speed sensor in the same place would be odd for it to only effect auto`s? Oh and on non turbo zeds the intermittent steering issue is mostly caused by the ecu for the power steering. Jeff TT

radiator pressure??
Are you saying you have an electric fan? my advise if you have, is to refit the standard viscous one, seen too many engines damaged by using electric fans that just dont have the same cooling power as the original one. Jeff TT

Auto TT reluctant to shift up by itself. Stuck in power mode? Dodgy ECU?
Dito on changing the fluid, however changing up when releasing the throttle is often caused by an incorrectly set throttle position sensor, would get that checked out. Jeff TT

SuperHICAS: Repair or Replace
A fifty / fifty split really, a fully woirking Hicas will have safety benefits, lockout bar will negate all movement at the rear, cost wise not much in it, however if the hicas is removed you must inform your insurance co. as in the event of a claim they could easily argue that a manufacturer safety item has been removed. One for the business minded/owners?
Tread carefully, notoriously difficult to place a value on any company in good or bad times, full financial accounts inspection is required or that small wage for your partner and your dividend may end up been much less than you are expecting, maybe even a negative in the first year or so after take over and never trust what your been told in business always double check everything. One for any auto electricians...
The issue is two fold, the switch is been used to switch an earth when its designed to switch a live supply ( it is internally wiried for this) when the leds are switch off IE: the switch open, the switch led is getting a back feed supply through the filament bulbs, a few changes will sort it. Are indicator side repeators required for MOT?
Like many things for the MOT if they are fitted they must be working, we have three US left hand drive zeds we look after and all pass the UK MOT and thet do not have front side repeater, basically not fitted so no fail. Jeff TT

Cambelt help
Yes agree with Mark all it needs now is to tension the belt, again the crank mark on the oil pump is for reference only not actual setting, the crankshaft sprocket mark and the camshaft pulley marks are al that you need to concern yourself with. Jeff TT

Getting Import Info from dvla
Hello and congratultion on your new zed, so from your info it would seem your zed was imported late 2002 and came in on this ship... Enjoy Jeff TT

Cambelt help
Ok do not despair your nearly there, your caution is a good thing but its clouding the issue, if the top four cambelt marks are lined up with the top four sprockets and the crank is correctly marked but is not matching the belt just pop the crank bolt back in and turn it to suit. HOWEVER the bottom crank sprocket mark acuracy needs to be 100% and a close up of your crank shows a possible dot mark above your tipex mark, check this again, what your looking for is a little dimple, Let us know how you get on Jeff TT

Manual to auto conversion parts list
A task indeed to convert a factory manual zed to auto, will need sone more bits than your list, at the moment I can think of these: Auto ecu for the engine (Auto loom from ecu to the inner wing is part of the main body harness!!! ) Wiring modification to include starter imobiliser to prevent engine start when in drive Auto dash cluster surround bezel with auto box control lights in + wirng to ecu Hold/ power switch loom to ecu ( optional ) Flex plate Flex plate to crank bolts Bolts for the torque convertor to flex plate Bellhousing sandwhich plates Plate for covering hole where master cylinder previously fitted Jeff TT

Air Conditioning Fault?
Yes thats quite correct, its a case of pressing auto and then pressing econ at the bottom, that is the only way to switch the ac off, remember ac does work with hot air too, great in the Winter for keeping the windows clear as the air has been dryed. Jeff TT

when you think things are going good !
Mark so are you saying the wastegate was sticking open mostly? because that will not cause overboost or was it sticking in both ways, did you not notice a reduction in boost when its stuck open? We had a sticking wastegate on a standard turbo`s once but with low boost occassionaly as it was sticking open and was a badly set pivot pin and a poor quality valve, the turbo had been rebuild at some time and the issue had been since the rebuild so turbo companies do get it wrong sometimes. Bad luck though either way. Jeff
