50mph - going down without a fight?
Me also. It's a pointless excercise and one which will only frustrate otherwise considerable drivers who do not want to be held up unnecessarily. The problem will be that there are a core of drivers who always drive at 10-15mph below the speed limit, whatever it may be. These people already drive at 45-50mph on safe clear national speed limit roads; so with the advent of 50mph signs, those very people will simply not carry on at 45-50. They will slow down to 35-40mph causing further frustration. Don't believe me? Well here in Bucks the speed limit on the A4010 between Wycombe and Aylesbury was always 60mph, with a few 40 zones as it skirted (not went through) villages. The traffic proceeded safely along the road at between 50 and 70mph; whilst most drivers would travel at the higher end (say 60-70mph) the slower types would pootle along at 50. Last January the lovely council reduced the limit to 50mph; with the 40 zones reduced to 30. Now it takes ages to travel the 15 miles because very few people will go above 50 (there are no cameras, mind) even though many were happy to do 70 when it had a 60 limit. And the slower drivers now travel at 40 instead of 50; why? The twats thought it was safe to do 50 before, so why have they slowed to 40 now!!!! It's nothing to do with road safety it's just to get us all out of our cars by making driving so unpleasant and slow; failing that they will wring cash from those who still drive, with increased taxes to use our pot-hole ridden roads or yet more speed cameras to enforce rediculously low limits. MAkes you proud doesn't it:rolleyes: Richard:rant:

Tyre fitting prices
It's just because tyre retailers are suffering now that so many people buy their tyres over the 'net. They are not getting their mark-up so they claw back their losses by charging you a fortune to fit tyres you have purchased elsewhere;) There may be some honest folks out there still charging a few £££s for cash. In the end I find it less hassle to buy tyres on the net fully fitted from the likes of Etyres or Event Mobile Tyres. They also come to your home or work which saves you spending a Saturday morning waiting in a smelly tyre fitter's waiting room........... Richard

Geneva motor show.....
Yup; it was a superb day out - but a very long one! I was up at 4am this morning to drive to the airport:wack: Considering it's Switzerland and everything costs the earth, the admission was only CHF14; which is about £8-9. So well worth it. I reckon VW and Audi had the best stands there; they really made the effort to make you feel good visiting them. Nissan had a midnight purple GTR hidden in a special enclosure behind their stand - you had to know it was there and then try to blag your way in.......... ......but they also had a nice white (what else??) one out near the new 370z. I was also impressed with the new BMW Z4 - it has a metal folding roof rather than the shitty canvass one on the current model; and a better quality interior. I don't normally care for BMWs but I would really consider one for my next car in a year or so:nelson: I'm off to bed now - I'm shattered!!! 'Night all..... Richard;)

boot spoiler
Yes, and it's not that expensive either. Standard (replica version) or '99 spec are the only ones that look good IMO. I don't like any other alternatives...... .....but that's just me;) Richard:cool:

Coupe to rag-top??
Don't bother mate - it's not worth the cost; plus taking off the roof weakens the structure of the car so it will need some serious strenghthening and you will get loads of scuttle shake. All that extra strengthening material is why rag-tops often weigh more than their coupe counterparts. You'd be better off selling your S13 and buying a 4 seat rag-top. The first generation Merc CLKs are quite reasonably priced now and they are very well made. Or there's the Astra Turbo if you don't mind a FWD. Richard:)

MOT test question
Exactly - you no longer need to present the old one now they are all logged with VOSA. If you take it in up to a month early the computer will automatically date the new certificate to expire 12 months from the expiry of the old one on record. It also works with first MOTs on 3 year old cars - you now get the MOT to run 12 months from the date your car was 3 years old, not the date you have it MOTd. Richard:)

Anyone devised a quicker way of storing targas?
I've never used the targa bags or straps...... .......I just lay them in the boot:wack: First one "glass down" then the second one overlapping with the "glass up" I have a light coat and a picnic blanket in the boot; one each of which I place between the painted edge of the targas and the boot wheel arch trims. I've never had any issues with damage.......so far;) Richard:cool:

Sh1t happens......oh no.
Vinz is right - this is a great club. It shows true spirit when fellow members pull together to help someone out. Sorry to see your Z in that state John; it does look pretty bad for your car but at least you are OK and no-one else was hurt. All the best, Richard:cry:
