Mapped at 1 bar and coils are failing????
No idea how far these guys are from you http://www.risingsunperformance.co.uk/shop/ But Richard Bell does the mapping himself and has been trained in the US to work with AEM. He also knows how to map the stock Nissan ECU's too, so hopefully would do a good job. ;) smithy

Mapped at 1 bar and coils are failing????
Don't waste yer cash mate, a tested second hand coil is one that is tested to be working and thats it. If you have no misfire at normal temps and normal running, then yours are just the same as the ones you intend to buy. Theres no test am aware off for coils at high bhp, if it works normally thats it! With you having a new loom, then yes that rules out the connectors. Likelyhood of coils breaking down is pretty remote, however they are cheap as chips second hand and loads around to borrow and check. Fitting splitfires is not a bad idea, but if yer coils were not at fault before, you'll still end up with same problem. What brand plugs it running and as said, 8 is a wee bit cool tbh, you could actually wap a set of NGK's in it in 30mins for 50 quid and may even be sorted. It's 400bhp which is a very common output now for these and all run it wihout coil pack or spark plug probs or by upgrading them either. Smithy

I'm bored waiting for 5.30 to come so....
I bought a Skyline MAF from that company through ebay, though the sale was okay, it was expensive and the postage highly expensive for what it was. I noticed then his Zed bits were crazy ass prices and was gonna offer him shit loads of parts to make a few bob :p smithy

Mapped at 1 bar and coils are failing????
Shite, but on the right track. Stock coils are well good for 400 and plenty more. Misfires when hot are generally down to the coil pack connectors or fuel injectors connectors, nearly always when hot. Mine does it from time to time, little wiggle here and there and 2 mins later good as new, until the next time. New connectors should see yer right bud. smithy

I wrapped cling film around my alarm horn as a temp measure, made things more bearable ;) smithy

So you getting all that above supplied and fitted for 110 quid ? if so your either getting parts at trade and free fitting or he ain't an idea on parts prices and working on a zed, yikes!! smithy

how long should a full map take
Hi mate i see your using the AEM, When he's finished it's worth checking how the car runs when really cold. I know from the AEM forum there were some minor issues with different cars tbh, mapped when very warm, ran naff when when cold. It's easily solved like, just summit to take into account should it happen to you. So don't be alarmed if if it does ;) smithy

What Turbos Have External Wastegates?
Personally i'd do it the other way around mate, for around 500 quid you could slap a pair of mike smith manifolds on and the turbo set up you have will go straight on, sell the pentroofs and have cash in your pocket. Unless of course you got another few grand to throw at the car for Greddy 16 or 18g's. Oh and of course the time. You could order from Z1 tonight have the manifolds up at duffers place by this Friday or next Monday and you have waited a very very long time mate ;) smithy

Petrol Flap Enquiry
It was also a 1996 model she was looking at mate, which as far as i know didn't have boost gauges in them. HTH Cheers smithy

stock internals?
No mate, as they are forged the average engine rebuild doesn't do them. That said, those chasing mega power and throwing big money at the build will normally buy aftermarket rods as they are also llighter and it's a new part in the block, so one less thing to break with all the extra stress. Anyone under 500bhp, i wouldn't suggest getting new rods, unless you just fancy fitting them. smithy

Veilside Mirrors????
Owned both mate, though i never put them side by side to compare, they did appear to be the same and the construction both equally were great. Veilside am not sure if you can actually get anymore, so guess it's just the Ganador ones :) Cheers Smithy

I'm now a manual
Just had Jeff fire me some pics over from when i was at Zedworld a few weeks ago helping him break a few Zeds. Anyways I came across this zed that had a conversion done some time ago by the looks of it, dunno who by. Just something for peeps to be on the look for when getting this kinda work done ;) Smithy Check out the brake pedal  I think sorting the rust out on this one was more important than the conversion, hence it's now being broken

Turbo replacement time!!
Hi Allan, for years i've always favoured Turbo Dynamics for turbos. The guys there really know Zeds too. A simple stage 1 turbo if your not going for the high horse power malarky. They ain't the cheapest company on the market, however great customer service, good turbo's and with stagger gap seals as standard! I used to supply them for about 5 years and was totally happy ;) Cheers smithy

Turbo replacement time!!
Ah gotcha Dave, doesn't sound quite as posh or technical then as "we can re map your ECU" :D BTW, Risingsun performance in Hampshire the Skyline tuners are the only garage i know who can remap a stock Nissan ECU ;) smithy

Turbo replacement time!!
Are you really sure about them having the ability to remap your ECU mate ? plus if so, you wouldn't need an upgraded chip in the future, once the ECU is remapped, it's erm remapped! Just buy a chip now and be done with it ;) I only know off one garage and John Dixon who can re map the Nissan ECU. Smithy

I'm now a manual
Well done mate, welcome to the world of manual zeds :p Glad it has turned out well for yer mate, seen 1 or 2 dodgy conversions done before now, you got it done for a very good price too.;) Sorted your coil pack connectors out now so you can get using that new box as yer should ?? Cheers Smithy

Sill returns and arch repair panels on ebay
Good find that mate, it's worth peeps adding this guy to their favourites as these are becoming so hard to get now. Shame he doesn't do the most inner one which is 200 quid + from Nissan, but it's a good start ;) smithy

boost/vacuum check?
Yer still got a leak mate and with the bumper off was the ideal time to test it. Did the new SMIC's have a couple small bolt holes on the front face of the cooler, usually on the end tanks ? If so and if you havn't bolted something like the ducts in to them, they must be plugged. A small bolt to suit wrapped in PTF tape is best. If the above doesn't apply, deffo sounds like a leak anyways am afraid. Smithy

Brake upgrade
Nah, if it's a front puncture, take the rear wheel off and fit on the front and the space saver goes on the rear. Even with wider rears ( excluding wide arch jobs) nearly all would go on the front as a temp measure till your home etc. Cheers Smithy

BIG BILL On its way, help.....
Flippin eck mate! once delivered with a wee bit of import duty etc yer looking at nearly 500 quid, yikes!! Oh and if the cambelt is oil contaminated, taht needs changing as well. Whilst yes some zeds pulley's will leak, it's not the most common of zed failures so second hand ones at about 50 quid the pair would have done. My second hand ones have lasted a couple of years now ;) Assuming you've gone for the BDE's, only advantage is they pretty much gaurnteed not to leak again in the future and thats it. In fact i think they were up for a massive debate on twinturbo.net sometime ago. Jimmer they can leak mate, there is even a way to tell when you have the sprockets in your hand if the front and back section are worn so as to cause leaks, it will come to me how :) However with cambelt covers off and engine running use a piece of card directly above the sprocket and in the middle, a fine mist of oil ( or more) will spray out on to the card. Also again with engine running and a screw driver on the centre of the sprocket, you will feel the vibration in the screw driver from the worn sprocket. Cheers smithy

Stainless splash shields
I thought about it some 4 years ago when i lost my own. Only downside i could see was with so many bumpers now being aftermarket ones, they do not all sit forward the same distance, thats why some OEM engine covers are either missing cos they no longer fit or have bits of ally on to make them a bit deeper. The end panels are okayish with new bumpers, it's generally the centre one. Pretty easy to make an ally one though DIY style ;) Sorry am referring to the front ones, dohhh smithy
