Hows this for a suggestion?
we can help ourselves by when we have a problem and we fix it, post that we have fixed it and what you did to fix it. While searching the forum when I have a problem I find a few posts regarding the same thing and a few suggestions but no one hardly posts the solution which worked. Stuart

off topic but...
Actually this happend to my sisters metro. I would just stall with no warning at all and for no reason and then it would be a lottery whether it started up straight away again or not. I will find out what the problem was when I go home tonight Stuart

air filters
They are listed in the Halfords book. Check at the end of the NIssan list in the book and I think Halfords put the car with numbers as names at the back. I found that Halfords ones didnt fit very well and ended up cutting away some of the foam surrounding to make it fit. If its a toss up of saving a few quid and getting Halfords filters and having to cut them down or spending a few quid more and get Nissan ones which fit correctly, I would go to Nissan. I am sure the filter is used in the 200SX and a number of other cars. Dont forget you need 2 filters for the 300ZX. When you can afford it buy an induction kit and they claim to last for 1,000,000 miles as you can keep cleaning them with water. After about 5 years you would have saved money from changing the paper filters. Stuart

Elvington Track Day Part 2
http://www.jimbocam.com/elvington/v4/DVw-elv4-lap-1.mpg Above is a link to a video of a lap of elvington. Lots of long straights. Notice there is plenty of run off if anything should happen and notice how the car moves over to let some one pass. That is what happens. Its over 9mb, so broadbanders are OK, modem people, down load it now so it may be ready when its time to log off ;) Stuart

Excellent 300ZX article...
There are loads of articles like that, all a pleaure to read. I like the way the writers are able to say such things about a Japanese car, as other ariticles I have read, even though the 300ZX was better they didnt like to admit it. One article did a track test with the 300ZX and Corvette, and even though the 300ZX was faster round corners the Corvette did it with more style. Stuart

workshop manual
I think there are 1 or 2 other people who are in Ireland. There is no Haynes manual but you can get the service manual on CD. As people nicely and you probably get one sent to you ;) Stuart

Interesting candle upgrade
I think cleaning the lenses is the next thing I am going to do. Looking at the lendes when you lights are on you can see all the dirt on the small lens and main lens. Phil at C&S Woods when he does a foil light conversion cleans the lenses too and says you can see the bulb when everything is nice an clean. Stuart

Abs Light Still On
If the light comes on before you move, I doubt it is the ABS sensor. When you drive the ABS does a diagnostic and it would detect no signal coming from the wheel and then then light would come on. When I changed a sensor on mine, I noticed if the sensor was not attached when I started the engine, I think the ABS light came on straight away. So it could be wireing problem. Stuart

off topic but...
Is the car modified in any way? There is a problem with some induction kits where it creates a vacume around the MAS so the MAS thinks no air is getting into the engine. This is presuming that the car has a MAS and has an induction filter. I had an Astra which did the same but it didnt die. It just almost hit a power wall when it reaches 50pmh. I found that an air hose has collapsed blocking air to the engine. Replaced the hose and it was fine. Probably none of these but worth a try. Stuart

Elvington Track Day Part 2
There seems to be quite a few people up for it, so I have started to make the next step. I have been given dates of when the track days are on after the new year, and you vote when you prefer. If you vote please post reasons for that date, to get a clearer picture of what people want. Also say whether you could attend the other dates too. After a date is decided I will ask about prices and then discounts. I hope as many people as possible come. It would also be a great place for a meeting too and chat. You dont race all the time, you come and go when you want, so there is time to stand round and benter and challenge someone ;) Stuart. P.S. At the moment I am planning this as just the track day with no hotel room for the night. I would like to try make it a package thing with hotel too, but lets start simple. However I will be staying over the weekend as it will be a nice break for me and the misses, and if any one else decides to do stay over I hope to get a few drinks together in the evening. If there are a few people thinking of staying over, I will see if I can get some discount for having a booking for quite a few people.

Fuel Consumption??????
What? :slap: I said nothing about the amount of petrol I put in, I cant remember how much I did put in 2 months later. I thought I was going to get 400miles to a tank at one stage as, I got 200 miles to what the gauge said was half a tank, and then it just plumitted ;) Nelson, it was also Optimax which according to your company is meant to give me a little more MPG. Or is your company lieing ;)

What BHP is my car running?
The 280bhp is a little misleading. There is a Japanese law which says no mass produced car can be over 280PS. Japanese measure power in PS not BHP, but 1 PS is virtually 1BHP, so people take 280PS as 280BHP, when infact 280PS is 276BHP. As I understand the 280PS law came into effect after the launch of the 300ZX, so it missed it. I think the law actually came out about the same time as the Surpa and the 3000GT/GTO as they are rumoured to have 320BHP from standard. In 1996 Variable Valve Timing was dropped due to now emissions laws, and according to many sources, the power DROPPED to 280bhp. So if it dropped to 280 it was obviously higher. What could also cause the rumour about the difference in UK and Japanese cars, is the fact Japan run a higher quality fuel than over here and the cars are tuned to run this fuel, like a UK ZX is tuned to run on the UK fuel. So when a Jap car runs on UK fuel it wont be as powerful as it was on Jap fuel, and it may even be less powerful than a UK car because the ECU has been optimised to run on the UK fuel. But we are talking small amounts of power, some people dont even notice it. You can run Optimax or Super Unleaded which helps, but again some people cant tell the difference in performance between the 2 fuels. Why did you go for a 300ZX? Some one on this forum has just gone from a 300ZX to a MR2 Turbo. Stuart.

Newest Z ?
It had 1000 miles on it too. The engine wasnt even worn in. It may have been a 2000 spec one. So if that was a year ago, the car was only 2 years old. Stuart

What BHP is my car running?
Cars are always changing. In 1996 Variable Valve timing was dripped because of emissions laws. Little things make differences. I think the ECU isnt the same for every year. Stuart

Newest Z ?
About a year ago there was a 1999 2 seater hard-top Twin Turbo for sale for £19,000 :D :D :D Beautiful it was. Stuart

Would you be interested in a Airfield Trackday?
Now would people prefer to go an airfield day or somewhere like Norwich Lotus test track which is meant to be better for ZX cars. Its a test track so again plenty of run off as there are no close barriers. Tracks have close barriers so spectators can get close. Test tracks dont have people standing round. Stuart

Fuel Consumption??????
Belive it or not. I filled up the car reset the clock, drove to Scotland where I filled up again and divided the miles by the litres I just put in and then times the answer by 4.54 and I got 32.7mpg. I did drive at 50-60 mph for 90% of the way. I did 320 miles and the needle wasnt even touching the E. Stuart.

Manuals are not more powerful than Automatics. Manual transmissions are more efficient than Automatics, and less power is lost from the engine to the wheels. Its near impossible to say what power you are producing, as every car is different and each year of car is slighly different too. Sports exhausts can have a gain from 2-6% depending on the make. Would you be interested in a Airfield Trackday?
The place I emailed was called Javlin Motorsport and they seemed very helpful with their reply and it was a very quick reply. By the looks of it about 30 cars can go at once. I bet if we get a good responce the 300ZX could have the track for themsleves. I actually like the idea of the Lotus test track and I feel it will have longer corners and not so much of just a long straight and then a few coned out corners. 51x: I know what you are saying and I think we got ideas mixed up. I wasnt saying just have the track with 300ZXs on. I was saying that if we book 15+ or so places at once as the 300ZX Club, we will get a discount of £15 per car and then we will have 15 or so places of a track day with other cars. If we can get 30 or so, we would probably have the whole track to ourselves as the full Quota would have been taken just by us. There is no set track we have to use, I suggested an air field as it is usually about 33% cheaper, and is ideal for beginners. I know that Donnington is only £159 at the moment but it changes a lot during the year. Try it in the middle of the summer and its over £200. Another reason I suggested where I did was to keep the costs down. £159-£200 is a lot of money to try and do something that you may not like. I was thinking of keeping the costs down so people can get an idea of whether they like it or not. An airfield day at the moment is around £90 and with £15 discount will be £75 which I think is great value. Lesser known tracks are slightly dearer than air field days but is a proper track. In the future I hope that people will get the confidence and willing to pay more and go on major tracks such as Donnington, Brandshatch, Oulton, but I think the is jumping into the deep end in terms of cost and experience, as some people are a little nervous about taking their car on a track. Take small steps and get peoples interest first I think. Stuart

Would you be interested in a Airfield Trackday?
I have recieved an email back and they do offer discounts for group bookings, of upto £15 per car for 15+ cars. They also recomended using the Lotus test track in Norwich as it would be better for our type of car. Would peoeple be more interested in doing it there? I see votes but dont see peoples reactions. Would you be interested in a Airfield Trackday?
I am trying to find if there is any interest in organising an airfield track day. Airfield track days, for the people who dont know, are track days on airfields ;). Heheheh. It has great advantages of having lots of run off so you wont be crashing into any barrieres and we race on the run way, and people who have been on a plane know there isnt a building, fence or wall any where near a run way. So its safer than a proper track. The course is marked out by cones, which are smaller and softer as not to cause damage if hit by a car. Air fields almost always work on an open pitlane policy, where you are free to join the track when ever you want, or when their is room. Other major tracks you will only get 2 or 3 goes on the track and you are told when you do go on. I have emailed a company who organises air field track days at Elvington, near York and Binbrook which is near Grimsby, so its quite ideal for north/south divide but it would be great if we make this a yearly event and alternate the location with everyone trying to attend where ever it is. I have asked the company if there are any discounts for group buys if we as "A CLUB" manage to get 10-15 people to go. The normal price is around the £100 mark (depending on time of year) for an air field day. Compare this to Outon and Donnington where you will pay £200+ to race and that will probably be a closed pit policy (Go out when you are told to). Also compare that to Sliverstone which will set you back £400+ and that is definatly closed pit. The day lasts from 9:30am to 4:00pm when it starts to get dark. I think you have to attend in the morning as there are usually saftey talks. As this may be a treck for some people I was thinking of trying to get a Travel Lodge to put us up and hope get a discount for a larger booking. All having a drink together in the evening would be a perfect way to end a great days racing. If this does get the thumbs up, it will be more in the new year when it happens as I dont think there is enough time to organise it earlier and it will give people to organise themseleves. Lets presume the first one will be at Elvingtion in the new year. Post your ideas whether you would be interested or not. Also post if you would be interested in getting a Lodge for that evening? Also post, if you are interested, whether you are from the North or South and it would be interesting to see if people are prepaired to travel. If this ends up a yearly event, I would deffo go the Southern one too. :D I personally would get the room to make a good weekend of the whole experience. Stuart
