loud scraping noise on key turn
Now when i start it, it makes a quick scrapping noise then like a strange ' fan type rotating noise'?!?! If i quickly turn the key to on then off you hear this fan type (not the fan in the car) noise spinning up then slowing down again!!! And its becoming a git to start now. Tried to get it off at the weekend but being clueless i cant see where it is at all (even with the instructions from the online manual)

Should my radiator move?
Underneath the rad there is two rubber grommets that the rad sits in. Quite often these peresh (One has on mine), and hence the rad moves about a little. Wouldnt worry about it unless its touching anything. Recently put a new rad in and noticed this, but must have been missing for ages. Its never caused me a problem

its a manual ! My mate (who knows a bit about motors) said it was the same thing as TrevZ just said but i wanted to make sure! How can i check which is the problem? Do i have to get a new starter and see if that works?

When i turn the key to start my car, it makes the most hidious scraping noise and the car fails to turn over. Then i try again and it scrapes a bit then turns over fine :rolleyes: Is this a starter motor on the way out?? If it isnt then what the hell is it? Its waking the dead at 6am when i go to work :mad: Thanks for any help -

Im doing a 3000 mile oil change on my N/A jap spec 1992 300zx. Where can i get the filter from (or do i HAVE to use nissan uk), and also what is the best oil ? And how much does the monster hold?

Its a battery from a uk twin tubby, so it should be ok for the job. Generally it idles about 650 ish - about 750! How do i up it ? Thanks by the way

Ive recently fitted a new battery, radiator and a secnd hand alternator to my N/A 92 Zed. Everything works fine, the voltmeter in my pillar pod says 14volts all the time etc. However, jut went out for a long spin with my lights on heater on and stereo on, when i started getting into traffic it cut out twice! The revs just dropped so low they cut out. I have noticed that with the heater on the revs rise at tickover to about1000, when the heater is swithed off it drops down to about 400revs then backup to about 600 revs. Is this too low ? If so how can i alter it so that it ticks over at nearer 1000 revs? Or could there possibly be something else wrong with it ? Thanks for any help -

Ok, i hve managed to get off al the bolts at the front of he alternator (By removing the rad). The belt is a little bit less tense but not enough to pull it off. How the hell do you undo the bolt at the back of the alternator? I can barely touch it, nevermind getting a wrench or socket in there! Am i missing something really blunt here, oris this job a total git? Any suggestions would be great, as id like to get it done tomorrow,if not i will have to book it in to a garage :shock: Cheers
