It seems to becoming from around the top of the left hand bank of the engine, possibly from inside the cam cover. I have checked the belts and also flushing and changing to different oils so i don't think its the lifters. the only thing i do know is that its driving me mad! Cheers for the suggestions jim

Hi Just after solving one noise i now have another! (if the body work was not so nice i could kick the S@*T out of it sometimes!) Everytime i start the car from cold i get a fairly loud and slightly squeally/numatic drill sound that rises and drops with the revs. It does this until the has warmed up and then everything seems perfect. I am thinking it could be a bearing or the water pump, has anyones Z suffered from anything like this? Cheers Jim

Hi Just wondered if anyone can recommend any decent garages in the Bristol area. I need my cambelt and tensioner changing ASAP, Before anyone suggests Protechnical i have tried them, and anyway they did it a year and a half ago and it is 4 notches out. There must be somewhere else in the area who can put a belt on a ZX!!?? Cheers Jim

Cheers guys! I have know the Cambelt was done quite recently but not sure about the tensioner and VVT springs so i will look into it and hopefully solve it!

Can anyone help??! I seem to be getting a rattle from the top of the engine. It seems to come and go. When it occurs if i turn the engine off and restart it a few minutes later it seems go. I have tried changing the oil and using a thicker oil. After changing the oil the rattle noise did not occur for a couple of weeks. I am thinking that it may be Tappets or a sticky valve? Has anyone else had a similar problem? cheers!

What!! £852, it must be gold plated?! i had a full powerflow exhaust from manifolds back for £500 excluding VAT and its looks to be good enough quality to me. I would try phoning a few other Powerflow dealers and and get a more realistic quote.

Just out of interest how much did the OS sensors cost and were did you get them from??

I have tried cleaning the TPS contacts but not the control unit. Can i clean the TPS its self with WD40? Previous to all this i had cleaned out the carbs, perhaps this could have affected the TPS sensor?

Yeh, the light has come on just after the engine hesitates/misses at a normal speed and acceleration.

I was driving last night every thing was going fine, i must have driven 10 miles or so and felt a slight hesitation in the engine and then the power light came on for a few seconds. Any ideas why?

Ok i will give drilling the box a try, i was just doing what Twinturbo.net suggested. The noise is just getting under my skin at the moment. I am think of getting an new exhaust with de-cats soon will this solve the problem?? cheers!

Hi all I only had my Z a few weeks now and i have just started noticed a gurgle/glugging of fluid coming from around the drivers side wheel. I drained a small amount of water and drilled a hole in the AIV pipe thinking it would solve the problem. The noise is still their at idle but may not be as loud, i am not sure. It sounds like liquid moving could it be coolant or oil? it only seems to occur once the engine has warmed up. Any ideas??

Hi All I am new to all this and have just purchased a 300ZX NA, all seems fine apart from having noisy front brakes to over come it i am going to change the pads. Are the Turbo and NA Brake pads the same???? I phoned 3G brakes but they were not sure. Can anyone help??
