Maf help!!!!!!!!!!!
Before you go buying one, have you tried cleaning it? Not being funny, but I thought mine had gone about 12 months ago and after a bit of reading around, I bought a can motobike carb. cleaner from the local shop for £3, took off the MAF, cleaned the terminals properly and then sprayed a shit load of the stuff on the sensor behind the wire grids. I then used a cotton bud to clean it, did the same thing again and hey presto all was fine. Worth doing before you go laying out bud.

Is it possible to adjust centreline?
Thanks for that, helps a lot. There was me thinking that everyone was hunting for the perfect offsets to get the centreline near enough stock. I'll get it aligned properly once the wheels are on.

Is it possible to adjust centreline?
I've been reading around and one of the problems is that lower offset wheels "could" cause problems. My question is two-fold then, is a +10mm extension to the centreline going to be an issue longer term e.g. excessive tyre wear, poor cornering, significant tram lining, cause damage to bearings, etc., and b) can it be corrected in any way? I'm suspecting that b) is no, and that a) depends on driving style. Since my style is rather sane until it's insane; I don't want insane to be insane at far greater risk :cursing: If I get the geometry sorted, does anyone know if a 10mm extended centreline is significant or not? It might be a dumb question to many... Like I said, I appreciate how to fix a 10mm loss using spacers, just not the other way around. Cheers now, Alex

Is it possible to adjust centreline?
Thanks for that, yes, I put them on and it really didn't feel right at all, especially at speed. It's a Jspec, and has 225/50/16's ET45 on 7.5J's all round. I want to replace them with 245/45/16's ET35 on 8.5J's and having looked at it in a bit more depth (after the fact ) I realise that the offset difference of -10mm pushes the wheel out 23mm (which isn't the problem) but this would extend the centreline of the wheel by +10mm compared to the standard JSpec wheels. Given that then (unless I'm a complete arse and don't understand the whole offset thing) spacers would just make the whole thing worse. Can anything else be done? I mean, adjustable tie rods/cambers, or...? Not sure whether I should ditch the idea or can work with it somehow. I have adjustable tension rods on the front and am planning to remove the HiCAS soon, but I would like an end game in as far as the wheels and setup are concerned. Would appreciate your thoughts, cheers, Alex

Is it possible to adjust centreline?
It turns out that if I want to put my new wheels on, the centreline is extended by 10mm all round. Is there anything one can do to bring the centreline back in as it should be, or is it just better to get the right frigging offsets!!!

seized turbo
Good thread, can I spoil it by asking what is a laughable question to you fella's who know better. Could I stop my Z from smoking even if only for a while, i.e. somehow sieze the turbos until they can be replaced? Happy to lose the power if it means I can drive without causing a global hate campaign against me :)

My constant smoking engine
I think I'm in the same boat. Got to get this sorted asap... :(

silver on M4
Yep, that'd be me. Dude, I did wonder whether you were waving/thumbing for the Z - and then just in case you were, I thought I'd better keep up the good name and blast away :)

Wheel Spacers
I'd be keen on those spacers Murt.

silver M25
Did it have a spoiler - if not - could have been me off to Gatwick

I'm thinking that's exactly what I'll be doing first thing in the morning...just in case

Silver in Slough
You're too kind! :) That'd be my little Z then...

Wheel offset query
Btw, if the offset is off at the front with the 8.5J's, won't it be the same at the back too. In other words, the spacers will probably push the rears out too far so I might as well go back to original JSpec all round... The lesson here was - I was an arse and just went ahead and did this without thinking. Live and learn...

Wheel offset query
Yep, I've still got the old set (which I was trying to flog) but now I think I'll give them a bit of a refurb and put them back on for now. Having listened to what the chaps at Zedworld said, I'm better off doing that until I find a new set that fit properly. Btw, I thought JSpec were all 225s on 7.5J's. Alex

Hicas
I'm in if a group buy goes up. Otherwise, at £195 incl. VAT, looks like a good bet.

Wheel offset query
Having just read a bit more on safety and the difference between adaptors vs. spacers, I'm perhaps just now thinking that I should stick the original J spec wheels back on until I invest in new wheels all round...(which btw, was the advice I had from JeffTT at the weekend). HHHmmmm, what would you guys do?

Wheel offset query
Evening folks, so I was careless and just went ahead and plonked UK spec front and rears on my Jap Z .... and now :) .... now I'm learning about wheel offsets :D See attached image. Can anyone tell me whether 20mm spacers would do it? Original front spec is 225/50/16's, 7.5J with 45mm offset replaced with 245/45/16's, 8.5J with 35mm offset Would appreciate your views. Many thanks, Alex

Snakes
Thanks for the views/experiences. Either way, gotta' get it fixed...don't think I can potter about like a girl any longer... :)

Snakes
Thanks guys, Re: backend. I was returning from Luton airport a few months back, and although raining, the rear end got very happy in the power slide config :). But seriously, not very funny if it's not on purpose right. Re: tram lines, I understand what you're saying, it's just the effect seems far too pronounced and other cars I've driven with wider fronts simply do not have this much of an issue. So, if it's a combination of the lower U/J and the HICAS bearing then so be it. Should I just have the HICAS removed now or is it worth fixing? I've not driven another Z, but I bet most of you guys feel pretty confident when you put your foot down - that you'll launch straight and slow down straight - without the feeling that the car has a mind of its own :) Thanks for your input, much appreciated. Alex

Snakes
Evening folks, apparently the Z has speed sensitive steering, so, why does my little zoomer snake around lanes like it's on heat? Despite running 245's all round, I notice the steering has about 1cm-1.5cm of play at most times. JeffTT mentioned that I had a slight HICAS bearing issue that needed to be dealt with which will probably contribute to this issue, but I don't think it would account for all of it. Other than that, has anyone tightened up the steering so that it stays firm and steady at any speed? It's just not straight and level and firm enough for me. It's had tracking/alignment and balancing done, so all the vibration has disappeared, now I just need it to go exactly where I want it to  All help much appreciated. Many thanks, Alex

Window not working?
Hey folks, last time I had the door panel off, I noticed two little black boxes for the power windows. One of mine, the one closest to the handle has a dodgy connector and it's a bit temperamental. Anyone got one to go for the drivers side? Many thanks, Alex

Thanks to Jeff and the crew at ZEDWORLD !!
Well, I just have to add to this. The difference between before and after Jeff got his hands on my Z can only be described as substantial. My auto TT now feels like a modern sports car. Jeff, I can tell you that it now performs great - and then some. Thank you!:nana2:

Noisy crank pulley
:DSo, I took that placebo and it's amazing! But seriously, I've just picked my Z up from Silverbullet who kindly did the 120k service, timing belt and UD pulley etc today - and I have never heard my Z growl before. Not kidding! Now, I might have been driving a bit like an old man for the past few months, not knowing the condition of the timing belt and all, so today was a chance to get a glimpse of how well the intake, mongoose, ALC, new plugs and pulleys all work together. The truth really be told, I think I might have been hanging on at one point  yet I'm far from complaining...more please Mark commented that he thought it was fairly quick, and now I can agree - sod the placebo me thinks. I've asked a certain JeffTT to give her a bit more ooommmmffff at the weekend (or me another pill) and then that'll keep me smiling for quite some time I'm sure. Btw, I've no problem recommending Mark for this kind of work, he's plenty experienced, professional and a good listener to boot. Thanks a lot Mark! :hyper: Given what he's done to his 500zx, working on mine was obviously just a mild stroll in the park I'm sure. Beginning to feel like the investment is starting to show it's face now :hyper:  :hyper: ... ok, ok, all you 400hp+ peeps out there yawning, "just another newbie on the edge of stage-yawn-1"

Red TT with spoiler in Reading - The Oracle
K-reg I think, about 2wks ago. We both parked on the top floor of the Oracle car park within a minute of each other - how unlikely is that. Anyway, liked you Z dude!

Thoughts on this for my mate as a daily driver
Have to agree with sideshowbob - but what can one expect for £1800? Even if a few things need doing, it's probably not a bad choice all things considered. From prior experience, if it has got anything problematic with the electrics, I'd run a mile, but hey, that's me...and err, based on experience :)
