  1. Sorry... I've been bored at work today and have just playing "Devil's advocate" on a subject I don't know a lot about. I realise this is a subject some people are passionate about and hope I haven't offended anyone. I'm off to play pool now.
  2. I would say, yes, when there is an option which offers most or all of the benefits with significantly lower risks. Then legislative control (not necessarily outright banning) is a option worth considering. I could be wrong if a pit bull offers it's owner significant benefits over, say, a labrador. But I don't see what they are other than looking / being well 'ard.
  3. One-off incidents are annecdotal and prove very little. (ie if a certain dog did or didn't attack someone / something it doesn't prove a lot). I believe certain breeds were bred with fighting / agression in mind and these, in general are still more likely to be aggressive. I found some stats on line an I assume they don't take into account the overall number of each dog. Equally, they can't take into account that 'bad owners' may be more likely to choose an agressive breed (I'm certainly not saying everyone who chooses what can be seen as an agressive breed is a bad owner though!) *Fatal dog attacks: Breeds Involved Pit Bull and Pit-bull-type dogs (21%), Mixed breed dogs (16%), Rottweilers (13%), German Shepherd Dogs (9%), Wolf Dogs (5%), Siberian Huskies (5%), Malamutes (4%), Great Danes (3%), St. Bernards (3%), Chow Chows (3%), Doberman Pinschers (3%), other breeds & non-specified breeds (15%). (from http://www.fataldogattacks.com/statistics.html) So Rotties, GSD and Pit bulls account for 43% (almost half) of deaths worldwide. I think it might be better if people didn't own the sorts of dog which tend to attack and kill (most of the deaths were children under one year old). Maybe the answer would be to "make owners responsible for the dogs crime" but its too late then for the dead child's parents.
  4. My Z aways used to fire up at the first turn of the key with no throttle. The last couple of mornings its been a bit reluctant and needs 10 secs of starter motor, sometimes several times, and some throttle pedal before starting. Once it startes, it then hesitates for maybe a half second as if it's on less than six cylinders, then runs fine for the rest of the day. Any ideas what might be wrong? Cheers

I'll try and scoot over but I'm not sure I'll get the chance. Here's hoping! It's be good to meet you and see loads of Zs.
  6. Can't beat getting wasted at a work do then 'expressing yourself through the medium of dance'. (Preferably amateurish break dancing). Good work Jonce! Sod what the Mrs and the boss think!
  7. Sweet! That thing has some shove!
  8. That's an impressive Renault 21! Well cool!
  9. Congratulations Mr and Mrs R. You must both be well chuffed.
  10. I wondered if it was a diagnostic thing. I know Yamaha R1s indicate problems with the speedo / tacho. But maybe not the Z then!
  11. It's manual/auto too! Best of both worlds!

Mrs Craig David touched a kerb stone with the front of mine when she drove it last. Poor girl was almost in tears when I got home and she told me, even though it did no damage. Obviously I let her feel the force of my sovs anyway. 'A woman, a dog and a walnut tree, the more you beat them, the better they be.'
  13. Mmmmmm Girls Aloud..... pram faced jail bait!
  14. Have we lost the 'see who voted what' feature?
  15. It is the people to blame, not the animals when they hurt someone. (except bees!)
  16. I thought about getting a swarm of bees. There's no predicting / arguing with bees! Unless you have a can of Lynx and a lighter!
  17. Nice one. Is it scary? What's it like?
  18. Kind of agree with this. I'm not saying the judgement on your dog was wrong or commenting on your case in any way. But aggro dogs (even if some aren't aggro according to their owners) don't seem like the best idea to me. When I used to sit in court and crims were getting prosecuted, their mums / grandmothers always turned up and wept: "He's such a good boy, he wouldn't hurt anyone" etc, etc When I used to live with my parents, the neighbour's GSD cleared the fence in a single bound and sunk its teeth into her. Not nice. I do understand people are very fond of these dogs but if they got less threatening ones in the first place, they might have got just as attached to those.
  19. You're right! I did use the correct number in my calculation (see my 1st post) but typed it wrong there which I'm sure muddied the waters. Oh well, that was last night and I was ripped to the tits on ludes and purple hearts. I'm at work now so there's only a couple of Stellas clouding my judgement.
  20. I'm not that keen on them meself, I'm afraid.
  21. Wouldn't 10^-2 be 0.1? Surely you just shift the decimal point one place each time so it goes from 10 to 1, then to 0.1? Ten divide by ten, divide by ten?
  22. I flashed my headlights at someone in a supermarket car park yesterday. As I did so, my speedo swept right up to 180, then back to the true reading (of not much). Is it trying to tell me something or should I just ignore it? Cheers!
  23. positive 'power of' means multiplied by that many times. negative 'power of' mean divided by that many times, like this case where it's meters divided by seconds (just once!)
  24. The little arrow signifies to the power (as in squared, cubed etc) In this case you could say ms^-1 is m/s as they mean the same thing. And you can swap the / for 'divided by' or 'per' So ms^-1 means 'meters per second'
  25. Philips GT150 bulbs are the latest from Philips and replaced their Vison Plus bulbs, which were about the best in independent tests in Autocar and RiDE magazines. I think http://www.nippynormans.com/products.asp?dept=165 They're regular power (so legal and won't damage wiring / headlight units), They claim to give 50% more light which I don't believe but think they do give a bit more.
