  1. hmmmmm just got my lad to look and the pipe is deffo plastic and the filters have no markings at all, look very much the same as Glenn's setup tho, maybe its a cheap copy, wonder if i can use the pipe work and just stick apexi filters on what i have already then.
  2. hey Glenn think thats what i have got altho mine is a plastic pipe not a nice shiney metal one like yours, going to get my lad to check the filters again for a manufacturers name. they look like the same material and are very grubby. not sure how you go on about cleaning / renewal.
  3. Hi all, getting stuff in for when i pull the engine to do the tubs as i want to do a service as well i know what most items are apart from the air filters, I assumed they were the standard nissan part but someone told me nissan ones were flat pannel filters, what i have is a y piece from the AFM with 2 x cone type filters on, these have no markings on what so ever so have no idea what they are, wether they can be washed and re oiled? does this sound like a normal setup? Thanks
  4. hi hope someone can give me some pointers seen a blitz dual sbc controller but has a single solenoid!! does our tt cars require a dual solenoid? fancy a controller but not sure what to get. Thanks
  5. hi all, i was looking at all the boost controllers on ebay and the turbo timers / boost guage, does the 300zx tt require special ones of these as there are 2 turbos to control?? not sure if there worth gettin or not, opinions would be welcomed. Thanks
  6. another 3 weeks now before me and my mate attack my Z and take the engine out. still trying to get used to all the Zed'isms and things i should do, here is what i am going to do so far 1 - Have tubs rebuit, inc 360 bearings and staggered oil seals 2 - replace all water and oild hoses at the back of the engine 3 - change cambelt whilst its out does this sound ok or are there other things i should be doing? i found small metal tubes in the vac line to the wastegates are these boost jets? should i leave em in there or take em out? what about things like boost jets, controllers, vac guages? turbo timers? should i be doing any of this while its out. any info appreciated Ta Andy
  7. still after ya mate!!! wont give up yet! lol
  8. hello all me again, my car came with venom alloys which look quite nice, (altho only seem to be 16") it has 225 50 ZR16's on all round front 2 ok but havent been in road in 2 years, and back 2 buggered! is this the correct size? should the backs not be bigger than the fronts? maybe not, your wealth of experiance and wisdom is appreciated, dont wanna fork out for the wrong ones. Ta. Andy
  9. hi all, can i have a little info about turbo boost please, I am fairly new to all this, (gimmie dellorto carbs and i am in my element) I am talking to a guy about how to refurb my turbos and he reccomends a 360 bearing for anything over 10psi?? my car (when i get it on the road) will be pretty much stock and is a UK auto, but might consider playing with it in the future. the bearings add another £50 each onto the price and i have no idea what they do? can anyone gimmie a clue? how much boost do the tubs give? how do you increase it? oh and is it worth altering the chip in the ecu, or is the stock one good enough!! Sorry again for my ignorance but i am learning (i think!!) Andy
  10. hi mate its andy from wath, could you contact me re the bits and bobs u might have tried to pm or mail you but it wont let me Thanks Andy
  11. thanks for the info dunk300zxtt do you know where i would get a rebuild kit from? Thanks Andy
  12. lol i know its tragic isent it, do you all mean turbos are expensive!!!!! bugger new i should have gone for a n/a, joking aside this is a long term project that will have to be done bit by bit as finances allow, at the mo i would just like to get it to the point where it drives, then mrs can drive it a bit while i fix her saab! another tail of woe!! Andy
  13. now that is possibly a project for the future, at the mo i am just trying to get her on the road with a budget of 0 pounds, lol, can i make oil seals out of old newspaper!!!! maybe not. Andy
  14. thanks guys but she is an auto, so at least clutch wont be worn out!!! wish she was manual but hey ho. Andy
  15. thanks for all your help in my previous post, looks like i have a O/S turbo gone, so i recon it time to whip the engne out. can anyone suggest which hoses, gaskets, etc i should replace as a matter of course having taken the engine out and where to get them from (preferably without gettin ripped off) think i should also change cambelt seeing as its unknown when it was last done, what would i need for this, also looking out now for a O/S turbo if anyone has andy secondhand but good ones. mail is brian@rich-tec.co.uk Thanks Andy
  16. thanks very much john, nice to know someone will share my pain, lol, could you drop me your details on my email which is brian@rich-tec.co.uk and i will give you a shout thanks again
  17. yeah royal i must admit thats what i thought, i was more pleased that they were all the same and no major differences between them. i havent got hands like ET but i have a son, lol he is eager i will let him have a go, not convinced now it is nearside tho as the all the n/s intake hoses were clean and nothing in the intercooler, (and o/s plugs were clean) however the o/s intake hoses had lots of oil in them and the o/s intercooler had loads of oil in it, (also the n/s plugs were very oily) does this make sence? lol not sure it does to me. if GaiJin has a n/s turbo anyhow and it can be swapped without taking engine out, is it worth trying it? the PO said that a garrage had told him it was the n/s turbo, as for the boost Carlz i have no idea i bought it end of last week as a project, so have never had it on the road yet. Appreciate all your help thus far if i am in wath GaiJin how far are you away? Andy
  18. lol and its very true that i hadent noticed that it crossed over, lol, next time i look at it i will ware my glasses promise. Andy
  19. yeah i thought 100 was low too but, the engine aint been run for nearly a year and when i started her up she fired up on the first turn of the key, maybe it would improve after a decent run, dare not do that tho till i sort out which turbo has gone. Andy
  20. hi there I have a question please. I recently bought a 300zx dooer upper, guy i got it from says he had it looked at, they said it was the nearside turbo, I have only run the engine very breifly and it ran sweet but chucking lots of whitish smoke out at the drivers . I took out the plugs and compression tested each bore, each was bang on 100 so dont think there is a gasket problem, and the plugs on the driver side looked good (nice brown / biscuity) and the plugs on the nearside were all oiled up. by now i was convinced it was the nearside turbo but on dropping the intercoolers the nearside (suposed bad one) and it was very clean, on dropping the drivers side that one was full of engine oil!!! so now i am confused. Can both turbos be done without taking the engine out? andy xx\ any help / load of spanners etc would be much appreciated, lol
