The best drive in the southern lakes is to start in Ambleside and then tale the road up the Langdale Valley. At the end of the valley take the HardKnott pass and then the Wrynose Pass and turn right at the end for Wasdale. Drive along wasdale lake and at the end is the wasdale Head Pub where they do excellent food and drink. Leave wasdale head by driving back along the lake and then don't take the road over the passes but take the road to Kirby Bridge Fabulous views on this road. It's a good day if you you can do it !
