Got electronic boost controller, need chip
Ok cool, I think I should get the car running right, all problems sorted first and go from there :)

Got electronic boost controller, need chip
Already onto John :) I like to think long term, waiting for Jon to get back to me so he hasn't had chance to answer yet. But what is my most felxible long term option? For now I want to run everything stock apart from my (fairly sizeable) single exit exhaust and HKS intake. For now the chip will see me through, but if in a years time I've more money will it be still good to go for the next level or tuning, or can it be remapped?

Got electronic boost controller, need chip
Hi mate. I really hope so! I ride motorbikes so generally find cars slow to accelerate (or not savage anyway). But my car kept up with everyone fine at Japfest (everyone who was standard anyway) and seems to pull fairly well. Foot to the floor though it won't pull past 140mph, just won't have it. I have my own conzult setup, I don't have any warning lights on my dash, maybe I can use this to fault find. When I tried it the other day it didn't have any ecu errors. I just don't want the 18yr kiddy on my road going round saying "my civic is as quick as a 300", I'd sooner sell the car than have that happen :) You don't live far away, it's not like the cars around these parts are all street sleepers and tuned up well :)

Got electronic boost controller, need chip
Hi all, Firstly feel my pain, my TT is only about as quick as a 1.6 Civic on the motorway (probably not standard, I only just crept past it), and last night only about as quick as an old shape Celica GT. I'll get it on Conzult tonight, it might not be running right, feels ok though.... it's just wrong. Just been searching through the forum. I ordered a Apexi AVC-R to try to sneak a little bit more boost and see what boost I'm actually making. I've just realised to get extra boost I need more than just the electronic boost controller, I need a chip as well. What is my easiest, simplest option? Quite fancy a Jon Dixon chip (haven't seen any for sale). For now I just want to get my boost controller installed and running. From what i've read here I should only really go for about 12psi. I have filter, exhaust, 60k miles, late '93 model, otherwise stock. One day if money allows maybe I'll go for a Greddy emanage setup or something (along with better injectors etc), for now I just want my car running properly and not lean :) Cheers

Solving oil pressure - gauge recommendation as well
As per advice above, then searching for hydraulic valve on this forum pointed me to Wynns Hydraulic Valve Lifter Treatment this was £7 for a bottle at Hellfrauds. I got home, let the car run on the drive for 15 mins to warm up, stopped the car, poured the whole bottle in the oil, let it run for 3 mins again on the drive. Instantly sounded better. Then 20 mins drive and not a single noise even from the offset, car seems lots happier. Top advice, top solution, problem solved, I'm very happy (provided the noise is gone again next time I start it ;) ) Thanks, onto the other problems! :hyper:

Solving oil pressure - gauge recommendation as well
Thanks for your help :) Odometer reads about 60k so I was hoping it's all good and has history to prove mileage. Probably not worth messing about with oil pressure gauge if I can just fix it, I'll have a search for the additive :) Thanks again

Solving oil pressure - gauge recommendation as well
Hi all, Ok japfest coming up, trying to get an mot on the car and get it tip top and ready in time. One problem the car has is it sounds tappety, guessing it has hydraulic lifters so I'm thinking oil pressure problem. Seems to only sound like one lifter is at fault (if I'm right) so maybe it's a dodgy one. Either way the gauge on the dash is a bit rubbish and seems to move all over the place. What oil pressure should I be seeing? Trying to buy a gauge/sandwich plate from Demon tweeks at the moment so I can get a good reading. I'm also using the Mobil oil you get in Hellfrauds, should I be using something different that might cure this problem? I have two track sessions at Japfest and I don't want to miss them or hurt the car :) Gotta get cracking, I also seem to have a seized aircon pump or something. Maybe I should just get the car to a Z specialist and say "please get it running sweet". I think a tune up wouldn't hurt as well as I think it's running pretty rich. Thanks in advance, the countdown begins :)

Alternate rear fog light mod
Bored so here is my thinking... The centre panel has two reflectors internally and two bulbs, which is kinda divided by appearance only from the outside into four lights. The bulbs are in the centre of the reflector. Reflectors always look quite brittle so drilling it maybe fun, but I could use some of these led mounts, say 9 above and 9 below the actual reversing light, to mount them in through the back of the reflector. http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=2071&doy=11m2 Then maybe some very careful bending of led legs and heat shrink wrapping could do a tidy job? Now I have two ideas for LEDS, 12v ones or these 2.5v jobbers. 5mm 8.5mA 14v max http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=35782&doy=11m2 10mm 30mA 2.5v max http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ITAG=SPEC&ModuleNo=35839&doy=11m2#spec I know little about electronics so this might be a fun little project. I'm guessing I can use the superbright leds that are 2.5v max, and connect them in series I'll be ok. So if I had 6 per side, so three 10mm above and below the reversing bulbs each side. If each 6 had it's own feed they take a max of 15v (shouldn't go this high I hope)? I'm not sure where I sit with figuring out what I need to do about fusing it. As a guess 30mA each x 6 = 0.18A :) I'd like to control it all of the front foglight switch. I'm guessing the control side of things ultimately just operates a relay somewhere, so I could probably get it to fire two relays, an extra one being for my rear led fogs?? I'm not sure this is going to be bright enough for a foglight though. It says 30mcd at 12v typical, so that's 360mcd total brightness, which according to google is 0.36 candela (which I guess means .36 candel light brightness, and seeing as torches are rated in the tens of thousands....).... hmmm! I think I need to get a used (cracked?) centre panel to test this on.

Alternate rear fog light mod
Unless I can find somewhere on the centre panel that is clear and mount a pair of these behind it (somehow haven't thought this through yet) http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=12696&criteria=red%20l.e.d.&doy=11m2 Similar to the ones you see in F1 and in the Demon Tweeks catalogue but round.

Alternate rear fog light mod
Thanks for the ideas guys. I wanted to keep the quad reversing light look though. For the sake of the MOT I'll just solder the brake light mod back together and come up with a better way of doing it long term when I get time. The trouble I think I'll have is maybe my extra fog light bulbs removable, all the bulb holders you seem to see look quite permanent. Like these http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product_list/81 I think though adding a big red bulb in (if it will fit) will end up causing the reversing lights to glow red as well. I think I'm back to my original plan of trying to mount 30 or red leds into each reversing light reflector. Then hoping that theres no law about "the fog light must work at the same time as your reversing light and come from different reflectors" or something along those lines. Now to figure out the wiring! I think loads of LEDs (if what I'm dreaming up is even possible) would mean a lot of nasty (fire causing) wiring hanging out the back. I'll remove my centre panel later and try to draw out what I'm talking about, so before I ruin my lovely (green glowing) centre panel you can talk me out of it :)

Alternate rear fog light mod
Hi all, MOT due v soon, and I've no rear foglights. I did have the inner rear brake lights wired in as fogs, but undid that as I liked the four brake lights. My plan has been to fit some red bulbs into the reversing light area, keeping the reversing lights as well. Now I've run out of time nearly I've realised that there isn't a huge amount of room. Another idea I had was maybe mounting lots of red LEDs into the reversing light reflectors. Wonder if sharing a reversing light and fog light will fail the MOT though? I'll probably end up wiring in the original mod to get me through, but if anyone has seen a good way of modding the reversing lights into fogs let me know please :) Cheers

tin foil fuse stupidty
Leave em to it, hopefully it'll catch fire and eliminate them, cleansing the gene pool of some stupidity. Part of the problem these days is not only the fittest survive, we'll be a planet of mongoloids in a few generations lol.

Sequential Gear Box conversion
They bodge air shifters onto motorbikes all the time, with little switches to cut the ignition. That bit should be easy. I don't suppose the Skyline box can be adapted? OSGiken make a sequential 6 speed for the RB engine so maybe you could go that route. Would be £££! http://www.osgiken.co.uk/6speedbox.asp

Do We Need Traffic Lights ? Newsnight Tonight
It would work in some places, like the new lights down my road, quite rural area, waste a lot of time holding up 20 cars on the main road to let one out. Why not continue developing the traffic light system to make them more intelligent than the current systems that do a fairish job.

Southwest Z?
Just got hold of him, just asked if he was still able to get me some bits from his breakers. Said I'd e-mailed and he said he would "get Dave the parts manager to check the e-mail and get back to me" which seems promising. My cars been in pieces for too long now want to put her back together. Also it was really nice knowing there was a Z breakers 20 mins from me :D Might be good news then?

99 spec LED coversion
You could always just change your bulbs for led bulbs, must have basically the same effect?

Replacement seat belts
Yeah I may end up doing that. My car has done about 60k so not sure I'll find any much better, as they'll all be the same age :( My neighbour has a bluebird, wonder if he'll mind if I take it apart a little...?

Replacement seat belts
Few pics of parts. Don't suppose anyone works at a Nissan parts department? I *think* the Z31 may be interchangeable.

Replacement seat belts
Hi all, Just spent the afternoon trying to "improve" my saggy seat belts. Read this forum and just about every other. I think though that the springs inside are just tired. I've tried winding them up a bit more then putting it all back together but it doesn't really improve much. Firstly can you get replacement seat belts? Will those from a different Nissan fit? I only need the white recoil part as the rest is sound. I wonder if this is interchangeable between another Nissan? For the sake of slightly sagging belts I'd sooner not spend £100 a side sorting it so trying to find belts that are interchangeable might save some £. Cheers

Southwest Z?
Hi all, Been trying to get hold of SWZ for a week now, any ideas if they're on hols or I just keep missing them? I don't live far so I might pop down if I get chance, have e-mailed them a list of parts I need and could do with maybe using a conzult depending on £. Cheers!

Fix my 300, my christmas jobs thread
Problem 4, tappetty when in first/second gear and on throttle. Engine sounds tappety, but I guessed it'd have hydraulic lifters. This scares me as with my simpleton logic if it does and it's sounding tappety I'm suffering some low oil pressure. The gauge sits just below the 4, but I've read these are notoriously crap. Oil level is fine with fresh oil as well. Anything to worry about or try not to until I fit a decent oil pressure gauge? Cheers

Fix my 300, my christmas jobs thread
Problem 2, no screen demist. As advised in this thread http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=103387 it appears my heater flap control system has gone funny, in that it doesn't direct air to my screen, it goes no where and kind finds it's way out in the small vent above the centre console. As advised (thanks guys) in this thread I ran the built in diagnostics. I put it into the diagnostics mode, and I don't get the expected 00 readout straight away, it comes up with a 5? And so I get lost instantly. I've again made a youtube video, if anyone can see it and make any sense of it I'd very much appreciate it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT0xWqPfuRo I should have remembered to buy a conzult set up before the Christmas holiday :( Which brings me neatly onto problem 3, easy one this, temp sensor has fallen out... I just went to take a photo and spotted it fits neatly into the side of the heater pipework. Can someone just confirm this used to be held in with the sticking strip around the outside?? Or is there some clip I'm missing? At least I might get one thing sorted today :D
