Z's dead baby - possible ignition problem?
Hi, Had thought of this, but apparently it'll still run and rev to just past 2k with a dodgy AFM? I have a HKS single mushroom type so I think it's fine. And it was dry yest/today when it died :( Also isn't the AFM on the ECU diagnostics? Hmm

Z's dead baby - possible ignition problem?
Ahh I had also guessed that :) Why does everything I touch under the bonnet that's plastic crumble instantly :( heh. The grey/greeny connectors that plug onto the coils that are part of the wiring loom, can you buy those? I have six coil packs which are connected mainly by gravity now :( Ok I've called it a night now, gonna stick a jerry can of fuel in it tomorrow and cross my fingers. I've now got 4 alloys to strip with nitromors then blast ready to take them to the powder coaters for 8am tomorrow lol, why does everything happen at once?? :) Oh any ideas on what's wrong much appreciated. Is the fuel pump somewhere I can find and listen to check it's working or any way I can check the pressure? I have spark, presumably I have air, I can only missing fuel? ECU still reads 55 though :-/ Cheers

Z's dead baby - possible ignition problem?
What a mission it is to change the plugs! This engine is fine only when you're sat in the car driving it, any other occassion it's rubbish :D All plugs give me a spark if I turn it over (very briefly) and are the correct colour. I see there is a sight glass just beside the battery, what is this for? I'm peering into it and it looks very empty. Is this fuel and have I just ran out of fuel?? My stupid gauge is reading 1/4 full and when I bought the car it was right on the E...

Z's dead baby - possible ignition problem?
Hello, Just got my lovely Z, spent lots of time/money tidying it up a bit, and then this... Couple days ago in the sodding rain it wasn't firing on all cylinders but then sorted itself. CAT overheat light came on briefly. Then yesterday going up hill it wouldn't rev cleanly. Didn't sound particularly bad but might have only been dropping one cylinder. So I thought (seeing as it's reading 1/4 tank) dodgy fuel. This morning on the way to work, similar not revving happily. On way home from work it died. Towed home :( Now it'll turn over fine, just won't start. It nearly does (on about 2 cylinders) but second you start turning it over nothing. ECU diagnostic gives me a 55 so seems ok? Anyway I have had the PTU off, the bottom connector was a bit green so cleaned it all up. Refitted, still the same. I'm going to try and find the spark plugs and see if I get a spark to each one now, but I have no manual and the engine is a mess, where is everything? :D Does anyone have a working PTU I can try please? I live in midst Somerset (Taunton/Bridgwater). Wonder if Southwest Z sell them?? I have a hill climb school to take the Z in next Tuesday, I'd really REALLY like to attend this so if we can fix it before then brilliant :D :( Nevermind, at least it broke down before Billing/Hill climb so I've time to fix it, not on the way or halfway up the hill :)

Scruffy steering wheels
I have searched the forum first but didn't really find anything. I'll have another go. Have to find a saddlery I guess, anyone into horses and live in/around Somerset?? :)

Scruffy steering wheels
Hiya, Any ideas on what can be done about a worn steering wheel? I want to keep the original (with airbag) and could do with the outside being retrimmed. I seem to remember on some car restoration program they sent a steering wheel to a saddlery (sp?) as the leather/stitchwork was a similar thing. Aftermarket covers are a no no ;) Although fluffy pink... hmm Cheers

Free online Z encyclopedia
Hello all, I know things similar to this exist, but I have set up http://www.aboutz.net/ What I'm hoping to do is create an encyclopedia (using the same framework as wikipedia) for anything related to Zs. I know of a nice 350z one, but I hope this will eventually encompass all models, and provide a free and open resource for us to call upon. The way it works is people are able to freely contribute to the site, and add information. I'm trying to encourage my club to add things as and when they find something of use, and it can be anything so long as there is a link to Zs somewhere. My friend is a big drifting fan and so added details of drivers who have drifted 350zs, later on tonight I intend to add details of what to look for when buying a Z32 along with VIN number and production years for S30s (that's 240/260/280zs to you ;) ) etc. It's ugly at the moment, and will need some tweaking, but hopefully if we get the ball rolling then maybe it'll be a nice place for us all to reference. My only concern is regional variations between the cars, but wikipedia is so successful that I have some faith it'll work out ok. Anyway I hope a few of you will find time to take a quick look, there isn't much to see at the moment, but as the content grows hopefully so will the visitors. Any feedback is welcome, Thanks, Russ

http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe Thats the easiest way to resize a photo, if you have XP, download that and install, then when you right click an image file it give you the option to resize.

You lads will be wanting this. http://www.compfused.com/directlink/154/ I haven't hurt myself badly yet (my brother was angry at me once and hit my back with a hatchett, but luckily he's weak and it was ok), I did lie down on a soldering iron a few weeks back though if that counts. Wouldn't be so bad but I holed my jeans in the process.

How much for a Z32?
Hi Martin, Cheers for the heads up but I gotta shift my car first :( Been looking at http://www.onaa.or.jp/eng/ and there are some sexual cars there, but the whole importing thing worries me. Gonna see if someone in the Z Club can help. Cheers

How much for a Z32?
http://www.gmjcars.com/details.asp?pid=223 300zx for a grand! (Ok shipping, taxes, handling, docks, tax, conversion, all sorts of things I dont know about on top) but a grand! Mental oriental... More mental, same grade 3.5 car for £750 http://www.gcar.co.jp/gbtrader/1uss/auc2d.htm#300ZX So far my links are http://www.rcsintjapan.co.uk/ http://www.gcar.co.jp/ http://www.onaa.or.jp/ http://www.gmjcars.com This can't be right though, a car over there for just a bag of sand? I realise its not cheap to get it here but that still makes it half price?

How much for a Z32?
Hi, http://www.zclub.net if your interested in 240s :D I wouldn't bother importing though as corrosion is gonna be a problem on any Z up till the Z31 I think when they finally started to use virgin steel. This importing yourself business has been quite interesting and I've been very tempted before. I tried to get some info from the Banzai forums but no one was much help. Obviously I don't want a lemon and I wouldn't know who to trust but I was told for £5k one of the importers would do me a nice SWB Manual with 50k on the clock and 6 months tax yada yada. So I guess for less I could get the same car myself? I would love to know of any links to Jap auction sites you have please that are quite noob friendly. I think I'd better do some forum searching on the differences between UK and Jap spec. Thanks v much

How much for a Z32?
Hi, Yeah well I have too much time on my hands this week and decorating is painfully slow :D Sorry if I didn't make myself very clear, all too easy to do on the net not being able to read the 'tone' I say things in :) Apologies all round, even to the last guy who had a go :D I genuinely don't believe you guys have head in the cloud views of how much a Z32 is worth, but I know sometimes people get a little carried away (NOT this forum in particular!), forget I ever said anything about forum inflated prices, it was obviously taken the wrong way. I'm not a tight sod either, its just cars within 200miles of me on this forum probably come up for sale once every six months and so I'm wasn't going to only rely on this forum to find cars for sale. All I wanted to know was how much a reasonable car that was in pretty good nick (like not on deaths door, ranted, shagged out etc, I realise things go wrong from time to time!) and look where we have ended up :D So we think £5k if I look carefully and don't let my heart rule my head should see a fair example thats not destined in 12 months for the breakers. Now that was easy wasn't it :D Cheers

How much for a Z32?
Martin: Good point about the year, I'm not too worried although I read the earlier ones suffered from certain things? But I'm sure that was sorted by the owners 8 years ago or more :D MarkTT: What are you on about dear boy?? I said "Service history is better than no service history" am I correct? Then I agreed that there are plenty of dodgy mechanics and so obviously main dealer stuff doesn't mean they did a good job, correct? The AA/RAC was the idea of a board member not me, and don't they give you a guarantee so if it is a lemon you get some come back? Surely running diagnostic software on the engine has to be better than not running it? I then finished with buying from the board being a nice idea, surely thats correct too?? So you say I am afraid you are going to buy a duffer. - Oh really You obviously have your own set views and wont be swayed by what many knowledgable people say on here. - Such as? That I can buy a car that isn't for sale on the board and it be perfectly good? I don't think thats impossible? What will the AA/RAC tell you for £300-500 ? It wasn't my idea, ask whoever suggested it. No diagnostic software is going to help you choose a good car. - No shit, but it might tell me if theres something going wrong in the engine that I might not no otherwise, and would be a good haggling point no doubt. If you want help you have got lots of it on here. - Well that's a half truth, I seem to have had plenty of abuse to go along with it but I'm not sure why, although yes I have received some good help and advice, my question was how much can I expect to pay not "How do you buy a car"... If you dont want help - good luck as I think you will need it! - Well if I didn't want help why would I have started a thread asking a question? I'm not being a twat I just don't see your point, please explain.

How much for a Z32?
Hi, Well the service history is better than no service history, most my mates are mechanics and I now do as much work to my car myself, they aren't always that good like you said. The AA/RAC check is a good idea though, apart from obvious things are the Z32s hard to pick up on faults? I suppose I could do with that diagnostics software and I could run that on it. Buying from the board would be a nice idea too. Cheers

jock: I'm sure NA would be plenty of performance for me, but no disrespect to those without but if your buying one you may as well go all the way :D james: cool  cheers, £5k ish it is then. I have a few people I can call upon and there is a Z garage not far from me who can assist no doubt, if not its a case of keeping an eye on this forum and such for the right one :) Just gotta shift my car now then.
