  1. There is a debate about turbo times and what their uses are. Turbo timers are great for keeping the engine running and not going into positive boost to let the turbo's cool down, but there is one thing better than a turbo timer and that's to do the last few miles of your journey without going above 0 psi. I would still use your turbo timer but to sustain the turbo life, keep the last few miles in - boost ;).
  2. Apexi intake will let the car breath better but this usually goes hand in hand with an aftermarket derestriced exhaust. I wouldn't worry about that at the moment. The bigger rad is only worth it if you are looking at raising the BHP o the car, this will improve engine cooling but then you wil probably also be looking at bigger intercoolers etc. Smithy's fuel lines are more bling than any major benefits they are braided stainless steel so are tougher but again not really required for a stock 300zx. Grounding kit. You probably don't need one. To find out if you need one start the engine and connet a jump lead to the negative terminal of the battery, touch the other end of the jump lead onto the plenum, then onto a bolt on the body work (inside the engine bay). If the engine tone changes at all then yes go for a grounding kit, otherwise it's not required. If you are staying at stock boost (9 psi) then you won't need an after market gauge, It's only worth getting aftermarket gauges if your current gauges are reading incorrectly. The only one that usually goes wrong is the oil pressure gauge, however if you don't want additional gauges you can just replace the send unit to fix this problem. Smithy hard rad pipe kit, agina not really needed if you want to keep it stock, however if you need to change your hoses due to swelling etc, then these are the ones to go for at they are Stainless Steel and will not swell with excess heat.
  3. How much does the stock engine weigh (without the bling ;) ) And what's the best engine stand for the job ?. How much and where from ?. Thanks in advance.
  4. If you want to keep your Z standard then you just need to keep it as it is. but make sure you do regular services every 3000 miles. Change the cambelt every 60k miles. Stock brakes are not that bad if they are working 100% correctly and you have decent pads in them. If you have crap pads, lipped or warped discs, air in the system or leaky piston seals then yes the brakes are a little poor. However if all the above are ok, then they aren't really that bad. The important thing is, what do you want form your car ?. What things don't you like about the car or want to imporve ?. The answer to this question will enable us to point you in the right direction as to what you need to change etc ?.
  5. I think it's only people on this forum that bother to wave and flash each other as we consider each other part of the same "team" to keep our cars on the road. Other 300zx owners who are not on the forum or don't know of the forum seem to ignore waves and flashes from other Z owners. I call these the bike couriers of the 300zx population. i.e. when riding a motorbike you often nod to other riders just out of habbit and appreciation. However you don't nod to couriers as you know they won't say hello back.

Looks like it's supposd to be an R34 GTR V-spec. Only guessing that becuase of the wheels. I'm going to have to start buying happy meals now :D.
  7. Sorry to say this Steve-o but it does sound like your turbo seals are on their way out, Has the same on mine, I was loosing about a litre of oil every 400 miles. The smoke used to come and go and then stopped for about two weeks, then started again slightly, then came the rattle sound on + boost, then finially the rattle stopped and the turbo ceased, followed by constant smoke on decelleration and idle. As soon as the front or rear seals go on the stock tubs it's only a matter of time. Mines now off the road for a while and I've started stripping the engine down ready for the lift. Then it's time for investigation and then after many more £'s spent  and lots of hours and time put in from me and a few knowledgable Z friends , it's all back together and either go go go  :hyper: or over to SE  :(. I have full faith that it will be the first ;). What turbo's you looking at steve-o for when the time comes ?.
  8. Much appreciated Garry  YGPM
  9. Guys we set up a corp last night. Z Associates We are currently renting office space and then all Caldari members will be free to join. Shortly after that all other races will also be free to join. Any tips or advice in getting our corp started Tooley ?
  10. Yep all the time mate. I go to get petrol sometimes just for the sake of it. By the time I get back I've used a quarter of a tank lol.
  11. yeah pics would be great thanks smithy. The engine will be coming out in 3 weekends time (thanks in advance to the forums chief engine lifter MTL  ).
  12. ok 555's it is then. Right so I'm sure about the following so far then. Nismo 555 Injectors. JWT 530BB's WEISCO pistons (staying with 8.5:1 compression) Did someon mention they heard bad things about the Gregg Dupee downpipes ?
  13. Hopefully it's nothing serious, but I guess it always comes when you are not ready for it. Always seems to be around Billing as well, smack bang in the middle of the summer
  14. I want to do this cheaply, hense doing it myself, but at the same time I want to do it right. By this I mean I don't want to buy what I don't really need. I think new stock pistons will take the power, but mine are 15 years old so may as well change them, and if I'm going to change them then I may as well upgrade them. It seems that nismo 740's are cheaper than 555's. Any reason I shouldn't go for these ?. Do you need to machine the plenum in order for these to fit or get a +95 fuel rail or something ?. Once I know exactly what I want (almost there), I'll start looking for the best prices.
  15. Did you actually fit it in the end ? Or is still still to go on/changed your mind about it ?
  16. Sorry I should have given you guys my current spec list. Howe Rad, Greddy SMIC's Uprated Oil Coller HKS SQL bovs Viscous replaced with Electric. SBC-iD & Power-ID Uprated Organic clutch Decat and 2 3/4" pipe from manifolds back. Going on your comments so far, and the little bit of research I have done myself. I'm not looking to go crazy with my engine mods, I'm not after huge power and I wasn't considering manifolds, just downpipes. I definitely want the JWT 530BB turbos (sorry duffer, minds made up). I may as well do pistons while I have the engine out and get rid of the cursed 51x piston in number 4. I think there are 4 bolt and 5 bolt designs with the GD downpipes. I guess I'll know which ones I need when I get the engine out . I may leave the rear diff for now as it doesn't seem like such a good idea from what I heave read. Apparently as mark says there is a lot of pressure put on them with 500rwhp, not sure I'll get that much but it would be nice :D. You can but only try  I'll be there pretty much every weekend now sorting bits and pieces out so if you want to lend a hand or simply just pop your head in to see how it's going. Give me a buzz and I'll direct you in. Thanks for all the input you guys have given me so far, now this is IMHO the highlight of this forum.
  17. How do we form a corp mate ?.
  18. As some of you know one of my turbo's ceased on the way to Billing last weekend. It's been on the cards for some time now as they are stock turbo's which have been on the car from new (i.e. 15 years and 80k miles). I'm hoping that only the turbo's need changing and no other damage has been done. There are no metal filings in the boost hoses and the car still idles fine (although a little smokey from the passenger side). The car is currently sitting on my parents drive in Maldon (Essex) which is 5 mins from SE (hopefully I won't need to go there after I finish  ). I'm going to be doing the work myself. I'm looking at fitting the following: JWT 530bb's Weisco forged pistons Greg Dupee Split downpipes Nismo 555 injectors Doolz Twin pop 555 chip for Doolz I'm looking at doing the following: Removing the EGR system Under plenum water hoses bypass Removing the excess flashing from the internal rear water pipes I'm also considering: Removing the hicas Fitting an NA rear Diff Apexi Fuel controller to map Doolz with dual MAF Quite a few of you have said you will help which is great  as I find you always have more confidence working with someone. I currently have 360ish RWHP and 390ish RW Torque (Thor Dyno) What sort of figure do you think I will be looking at once this lot is in and mapped up. Also anyone have any comments about the above set up ?. Any know problems with any of the parts ?. Any reason they won't work together ?
  19. As you probably know one of my turbo's ceased on the way to Billing. Hense I can not get over 0 psi. Are you getting any smoke form the back at all. It seems strange that it only sticks when cold. As paul says this wouldn't happen if it was safety boost as the car would hit 7psi straigh from the start. The only time you will get 0 psi and the turbo's are fine is if you are reving it in netrual. All other times you should get + boost. It may be an idea to check your boost hoses for metal filings just incase the compressor wheels are starting to grind. Take off the outta hoses and check for grey poweder or even worst small metalic filings. I imagine with your ICE set up you wouldn't hear much from the engine anyway
  20. I use what ever is in the cupboard, I think I have all the ones mentioned above including mr sheen :D
  21. I have started paying even though I had 9 days left lol. the 800 trial account was reached and I needed to kick off Frigate level 3 lol. I have another 4 friends that Stevo and I think Nightwolf have met. that means there are about 9 of us online not including the advanced players like Tooley and Mayo (I think that was his name lol). How about a Z corp, I've spoken to the other 4 non Zedders and they are cool with it. :D Matty, Scoops what are your alias on there ?
  22. Si, Any chance you would consider going on the Rollers at Thor. I would really love to see what the difference is between the rollers that SE use and the dyno that thor have. Apart from the Wheel BHP and Hub BHP of course.
  23. Nice one mate, At least you have a good excuse ;). Cragrats to all involved (hopefully that's just you and your missus  )
  24. I totally agree with all of your points mentioned above Mark. It was very hectic and I really don’t think we had enough hands on deck to cope with it all to be honest. I think we will need to have a rota not only for the Marquee but also for the entrance. It would be a good idea to be handed the voting forms for trophies and any other important information like the timetable of events when you first enter the 300zx.co.uk stand. This way we can just highlight any changes we need to make on the notice board outside the marquee. I think we will need to invest in a megaphone for next year, this way we can round people up for lectures and presentations etc. Alternatively we can just wait until it rains as this seemed to attract quite a few people (not sure all of them were 300zx.co.uk members but never the less  ). The trophies presentation was excellent, however I think we need to give a little more consideration to the voting itself. It was the first time we did it this year and although there were some nice trophies with great prizes from some of the traders. However people who were there for the whole weekend had more chance of getting votes than people that just turned up on one of the days. Any ideas on how to improve this would be greatly appreciated. I think the front line was the prime spot as it seems that most of the trophies were won by people on the front line. I'd like to thank Chris C for blocking the entrance on the Saturday ;) and then after changing the entrance to a different location, blocking it again on the Sunday LMAO .
