  1. Possibly an earlier or later model swb vs tt, one ith the hydraulic hicas and one without?
  2. I dont think that those codes are actually on the engine though shrek. Obviously the blocks are essentially the same IIRC, certainly visually. What this chap is wondering is if he has an NA block, crank, pistons etc with tt heads, manifolds and turbos etc. No real easy way to tell I suppose. You could check the injectors to see if they are NA or TT articles (but then you dont know if your original TT injectors were swapped over, or they swapped the na injectors into a TT head etc). But to be honest if its going to zedworld very soon and you suspect it really is that bad then dont drive it unless you have to and stay off bost and I suppose no huge harm will be done.
  3. Haha, well slower then. Hell the rate of knots at which I caught one down a slip road a couple of years ago was scary. I thought it had stopped!
  4. What makes you think you have an NA engine in your engine bay? Unless its terribly slow then that'd be an NA... I assume it has the 4 intake pipes of a TT and some turbos otherwise you wouldnt be asking this question?
  5. Good work mate, you about at the moment then?
  6. No I didnt need to as the way we did it meant that there was never an air lock in the system, only at the caliper end. So simply let the fluid pass through the abs unit. (assuming that my abs unit works/isnt bypassed haha) I think it took around 20-30 minutes for a "solid" stream of fluid to be coming through. Just a case of waiting and topping up. Obviously if the resovoir becomes empty then you have to start again! I'm sure someone on here used to gravity feed but cant remember who it was, thats where i got the idea from because basically it sounded easy! And i figured that i could pour fluid into a pot and I couldnt get that hugely wrong!
  7. I did my zed by gravity, takes longer but seems to work. Loosened of the nipples, put a bit of pipe in a bottle and opened the brake fluid resovoir and just topped up as required until the fluid ran through true. Seems to have worked very well! Good firm pedal and stops very well. (This was on my D2 8 pot calipers but cant see why it wouldnt work on anything else) The calipers of course were completly dry before being connected to the brake lines which were wet. Just simply let the fluid drain down.
  8. Yes - I was terrified but then that was an Automatic Estate with no brakes and not much in the way of tension rod bushes left ;) Also on 5 cylinders for part of the day hehe
  9. When i look at these threads I wish mine was standard at times! Doh! :( Saving grace is that my slicktop wasnt such a well specc'd car when standard. Its now sporting a few more luxuarys!
  10. They often have had a hard hard life. People tend to mod them badly as well, look for dodgy vtec controllers and badly fitted turbo kits! The ones I have seen have worn bolsters, I think its the seat shape and quality thats at fault. Like all fast hondas they burn oil like america! Not sure if they are timing chain or belt, if on a chain (like civic tye R's) then they tend to get stretched when people are enthusiastic with the downshift (partly the cars fault as it needs to be doing 14 billion rpm to move!) If on a belt (most likely if memory serves) make sure its been changed as per servicing as they are often under alot of stress.
  11. Wiring fault somewhere in that loom! Maybe even a damaged connector with pins touching that shouldnt be?
  12. Cant decide if I'll be allowed to go to this. My lass is very busy at the moment with work and so is working most weekends, could I get a day pass out do we think?? LOL
  13. I think its all about being sensible. Just take it easy no need to rev these cars from cold, I tend to start mine and move of straight away. Although my drive is awkward to get out of, have to do a 3 point turn on it and then mess about getting over the cattlegrid and onto the road so I dont rip the nose of. Probably takes me 30 seconds or so of rumbling about at 1500 rpm. No real load on the engine but not sat at idle either. THen iv got a 100 yards to a T junction no real speed. Then its all pretty much down hill to the village. Its a nice warm up exercise! of low revs but we are moving and the engine is working. I cringe at cars being revved and driven hard from a cold start, but also from them being left to idle warm. Loads of wear, loads of fuel consumption!
  14. My GF spotted you yesterday around 3 o clock ish in the services car park. An unusual number plate ending in 5200 she tells me!
  15. Dave are you absolutly sure that the windscreens are the same on all models? If so thats awesome! I had got it in my head they were different and mine picked up a chip the other day :(
  16. Yeah they all do that, mine gains or looses up to 1/4 of a tank in an enthusiastic bend! The fuel level sensors are fairly crude I think and so the fuel level is an aproximation. Don't let the light come on though, Its been on once in my car (when the previous owner dropped it off!) I hate letting old cars get right down to the wire, you never know how much shit is in that tank!
  17. Much to my suprise my lowly specced S4 Slicktop has this vent! I only noticed when changing the trim over... My car has AN option! :D
  18. Aye i know, its a good show im told lol Just never thought to go before. Great eccleston if anyone else fancies it!
  19. Ah awesome! That is very cool, was the original like that? Or just flashing lights? I like the idea of all doing something very much!
  20. Going to watch a tractor pull on saturday night! Lots of noise apparently, my mates were raving about it last year so I thought what the hell!
  21. Ha! How random, very cool but very random. I have to ask though, all of the flashing lights and those green bars moving around? DO they actually do anything or is it look good? Just reminds me of conzult thats all - have it all hooked up to the sensors on a zed and it would look amazing! LOL Until an o2 sensor got stuck and it just went to zero :( LOL
  22. Thats the point though, at that time that 2002 is actually on an M registration. Registrations are not fixed to a vehicle, even though its MY2002 (possibly even 2003 knowing bmw as their model years start around August ;) ) so Build 2002 for example, registered on an M... I do admit though you do get some stupidity when it comes to as you said FV09... My lasses grandmother is convinced my van is on an S plate, as its SB09... Yet her suzuki swift on a 57 shes happy that its a 2007 car... LOL Old people eh, who'd have em!
  23. I have seen this alot on autotrader, its either the year the car was imported and people made a mistake. Or its on a private plate, get it alot of with M3's and M5's as people always buy M3 XXX plates or M5 XXX plates, so you get a "2002 M reg" as its a 2002 car with an "m" registration.
  24. Joys of still living at home, dad built a large 00 scale up in the loft which still exists but as he cant really see it anymore it languishes. Also he moved onto larger toys. We have a 7 1/4 railway running around the garden which is his pride and joy (well the engine is) I take an active interest in it and run the railway with him at open days and that. Also take the loco to other tracks on an anual bases (society agm really!) which we enjoy. My work means i spend most of the week most of the time away from home so I do try and visit as many railways as possible when im out and about. Something about the smell and sound of steam engines gets the hairs on the back of my neck - i know what you mean about mallard!
