interchangible parts
Tbh like the cars parts are dirt cheap and are readily available. Have a look in the for sale section lots of cars being broken. There isn't much to swap between them to be honest other than turning your na in a tt. It can and has been done but it's often not worth the cost and effort when tt's are so cheap and readily available.

interchangible parts
Basically the diff on an NA and a TT is different, lower ratio on an NA so rather than being geared for 186mph as a standard TT is, with an NA rear diff it works out around 165mph. Obviously a substantial drop but it effectivly shortens all the gears so the car accelerates considerably faster. TT injectors on an NA without supporting mods would just make it run crap basically, but IIRC standard NA injectors are 270cc and standard TT injectors are bigger at 370cc. So if you had headers and breathing mods and an increased rev limit via a chip you MAY find that the standard NA injectors cant keep up. (Much like on a TT with bigger turbos/boost turned up high on standard turbos they can run lean without upgrading to 555cc injectors, or larger) So since TT injectors are cheap, plug in fit and readily available it offers a useful overhead in the fueling department for mapping with. I dont think a TT fuel pump would be required. I think there is a difference in the control of the pumps but I think the overall flow rates are the same (Could be wrong) I think a TT fuel pump can run at slow medium and fast, where as an NA pump just has slow and fast?? I might have made that bit up though.

Had my car two yrs
DOnt tempt fate! ;) Well done for a long ownership, i had my first one for nearly two years. This one is coming upto a year in december!

interchangible parts
TT injectors are a useful mod into an NA i'm told. NA rear end onto a TT livens up acceleration with a lower final drive, reducing top speed accordingly Other than that there isnt much you would swap between the two cars. From the nissan range, R33 GTR front brembo calipers are a bolt on upgrade to the Z32. Maf from a Q45 is a good upgrade as well i believe Other than that there isnt much I can think of. The 300zx is up there with the top of the line nissans (especially of its era) and so most of the bits from the 300zx can be cascaded down to 200sx's etc (Maf, BMC rear brakes etc) But not much in the nissan stable to bolt onto a 300zx!

Fault code to puzzle you
I would say that its either a fuel leak/blocked fuel filter reducing fuel flow? OR an airleak after the throttle bodies?

Hey all!
Really?? I though you were younger than that when you first had your zed dude. I think mine was about a grand for the first year.

Hey all!
Welcome mate, insurance is easily doable if you shop around. I had my first one at 20, and then this one at 23 with an M3 evo in the middle. I pay around £700 for mine but it is an import, also that is third party fire and theft. Does help with the relative low value of alot of these cars! A member on here, murt, was almost 6 when he first insured his zed... lol Well 18 or so but some rediculasly young age!

Ner Ner :p see above ;)

1998 N/A Targa - Bargain?
That list could be for the US market? Unsure. However I always thought that they had a grey strip all the way through. Colour coded ones are because people have had it painted because they think Although Poely J doesnt agree ;)it looks better, or bumped it and painted it all then.

what do I need for 15psi safely?
It is a smug feeling more than anything... LOL I love being overtaken of a roundabout or something, then you get to the motorway and just go howling past awesome. Infact the best one was a few years ago with my old grey LWB (manual at the time). Vectra GSI was next to me coming onto the (private) motorway at blackpool. Two roads onto the slip road. Zed was in 3rd @ 30 mph so hardly in its stride. So we both floored it down the hill and I though to my self. Hell these vectras arnt so bad, make a lot of noise but yeah going okay. Suddenly bababaababbaaba gear change. Realised that the vectra had been in 2nd... LOL so He changed just as mine was getting into its stride. The poor vectra just went backwards!

what do I need for 15psi safely?
I've told you to use gears in the past ;) lol I suppose any engine can let go if its been starved of oil or something in a past life! Hell someone I was talking to a few weeks ago had a 57 plate astra, done 40k and had put a rod through the block. 1.6 petrol nothing fancy, the lass was a home carer nurse so didnt give it a hard time. The worst bit was that Vauxhall refused to replace the engine as good will because it was just out of warranty. Anywho back on track, Ive always been advised not to go above 14psi with standard injectors, and that standard turbos cant do more than 15/16 anyawy without just blowing hot air. It all depends how often yo use it I suppose though. If you drive everywhere at full bore than your going to cause more damage than someone like me that might do 1 balls out overtake a week or so and the rest of the time rumble round at 2500rpm off boost.... I like having the power in reserve LOL

Tempted by another.......
Looks nice! So is this an SLK350 as well? Being 3.5litres but more powerful than your old one? Is it just in a higher state of tune?

Few questions...
THe hold power button is basically a winter/sport setting. Although, if you floor the car and it kicks down it will enter "power" mode automatically. The button is a bit pointless to be honest! The "hold" mode basically makes the car move of in second, I always felt like it was going to do damage to the gearbox if you actually used full throttle doing this, felt like it was slipping. I know its a fluid clutch but it did feel weird! I had intended to use it whilst i got used to the car I ended up not bothering and leaving it in the middle setting all the time. Your car is certainly an import for a few reasons, one it has a power/hold button (UK/euro cars did NOT have thsi feature) It has no rear fogs as standard (hence the aftermarket rear fog light to pass an MOT) Also you have no headlight washers which were standard features on UK cars. Also the little reflectors in the side of your rear bumper is a JDM feature :)

ive betrayed you all!!
Wheel power is your only real indication of the engines output! They guess Flywheel power. To be honest 191 at the wheels seems a bit low! Mine made 260 at the wheels when it was dynoed although it did have an exhaust and filter at the time.

Taming the devil lol
Either poor tyres or badly setup rear suspension? How much of the tyre is on the road? Shouldnt be spinning up in those higher gears. I know mine certainly doesnt!

Got a new car today
Ahh! I was thinking of the Type S or SIR one that was 217bhp, cool 185 will still shift though! With less weight it'll all be down to the driver... so are you a better driver than your other half?! ;) LOL

Got a new car today
Don't think iv gone blind so soon can't see no stats :-p. What are they then 190 bhp? What do they weigh?

Got a new car today
Nice looking thing! I like these just always had a slating from people when ive mentioned having on about saying they are an old mans car, but so is the zed so god knows lol. I thought those Lude 2.2 vti's were well over 200bhp? I think my money would be on the zing pop honda to win a straight line drag tbh!

Silver Balham High Road London 4:00pm
Silver Zed parked on the side of the road. I think it was Balham High Road. Silver with dark coloured alloys and an 89 spec TT front bumper.

Z dieing
Yeah I did wonder if you were near D2. THey come highly recommended so I would take it there for a checkover should soon confirm what if anything is up with it.
-
My new motor
Looking good! Glad your in a working zed! Have you still got the other two then? Or did you break them?
-
Z dieing
Likewise... ;) Only ever worked in IT! That dipstick on the left of the engine towards the back is for the automatic gearbox oil. The engine oil dipstick is on the right towards the middle ish. That smoke/burning probably isnt a good sign! However it doesnt seem to hunt at idle from the videos too much. The issue almost certainly electrical! Any chance you can take it to a specialist zed garage?
-
Z dieing
That dispstick is for the autobox oil IIRC so its coming from down there somewhere!

got a new car
£6k?! Whats wrong with it? Cheapest on autotrader is £8400 or so... Are you sure its an E46 M3 he has for sale?! Or is it an E36 Evo like I had? (Or even a normal E46... that might be 6k easy!) Nice btw, the 3.0 engine is apparently stronger than the 3.2 but I had no problems with mine :) Amazing performance and relative economy I have to say. The saloons are meant to be the best handling ones as well as the shell is apparently stiffer than the Coupes (and obviously the convertible wobbles around all over the place). Not sure if you knew but the convertible did come with a factory fit cross/x brace under the floor pan. Its a direct fit to other models in the range so worth buying if you want to firm it up even more!
