The later spec UK Autos are quoted as 268bhp, and the manuals as 280. US Manuals were quoted as 300bhp US Autos @ 280bhp UK/Euro Manual @ 280bhp (278ps in a nissan brochure i have) UK/Euro Auto @ 268bhp Japs were quoted as 280 for both manual and auto. BUT that might be somthing to do with the gentlemans agreement about limiting cars to 280. So there is an argument for the Manuals being nearer 300. (Classic example of that is the MK4 supra, overthere was an inferior car with about 276bhp, poorer brakes etc where as in this country it was 326bhp because the agreement was not pushing them to limit the power) Remember as well that its 14 years old, and could probably do with a service, with a choked up air filter and twisted/corroded baffles in a cat (i've seen cars really struggle with this, basically makes for a very restricitive exhaust) it might not be producing what it did when it left the factory. With regards to getting more out of it, if the engine is in fine fettle just needs from TLC its generally regarded that a chip, exhaust, filter and a boost controller (could go boost jets but thats a hole different kettle of fish) and set the boost at 14psi (about 1 bar) you would be looking at between 320bhp and 340bhp at the fly. That wouldnt be too expensive, looking around the £600 mark id have through to do that work (plus as well thats new filters and new exhausts, always help!)

got to remember that the uk spec auto by 1994 was down to 268bhp, if your mates NA was jap spec then i believe it will have been 230bhp, if he had done some work, exhaust filter chip etc it could be a little more! Although i admit the TT should develop alot more torque, in all out acceleration you wont have been using the torque the same as you would in normal driving. Was your mates SWB or LWB like the UK one, remember it would have been heavier than the NA as well.... Some food for thought!

ah for gods sake... If they banned bikes that wouldn't happen! No Sympathy what so ever for the biker, its only a shame he didnt skin his pecker has he came of. However poor zed, i hope it gets repaired sooner rather than later. And i hope the sod suffers for his lack of inteligence! This is the thing with bikers, for being a total pain and in the way all the time, either crawling around doing no miles an hour round a corner, or weaving through traffic trying to get them selves killed they make a right mess of your paint work when they do crash through lack of ability or brain cells!

Strange Exhaust
a puff of smoke or what? Sounds a bit like an Intermitant missfire, does it do it only when cold? Check all coil pack connections and also temp sender connectors, (the two on those front water pipes, probably bound up with tape hehe) Has it onyl done it the once?

netural switch
it tells the ecu that the car is neutral... which in a manual retards the ignition timing from 25* to 15*, and does somthing similar on the auto although It might do somthing more in the auto.

help needed just bought and problems
depends what your doing with it, driving hard around town you'll struggle to make double figures, a zed should make mid 20's at 70-80 on the motorway, i get about 18 out of mine on average, thats the odd squirt here and there but generally just driving normally.... You didnt buy an 18 year old 3.0 twin turbo car and expect it to be economical did you? Sounds like throttle position sensor if its varying revs when you just touch the accelerator, might need adjustment, could even be throttle cable snagged. Lumpy running almost definatly coil pack related, its either not getting air fuel or a spark to that cylinder all of the time. Got to be getting air, i expect its getting fuel... so lack of spark leads you to duff coil, bad PTU (how old is the car, and has it had one ever?) or lack of juice going to the coil.... They ARE bad for those connectors doing knackered. Mines got two cable ties over two of those connectors, a temporary solution so i could use it over a year ago... Seems to do the trick. Do some searches using the sear button on the top right, will bring up answers to these questions. Its all been asked before!

Driving on a dodgy front tension rod ok ??
ah mine have been duff for 6k miles! lol Ive had the bushes for 2 months now but they are finally going in on friday! yay. Then its time to work on the old prop shaft Grrr Even did a track day on mine, straight after i bought the car (complete with a nail in a tyre and on 5 cylinders, (coil connector dropped of midway round one lap! lol))

i was trying to buy a head unit, although im almost glad i didnt know. Should review finances and fix the major mechanical issues on my car first... instead of messing about with electronics... (Read that as i'll have bought the head unit at the end of the week!)
