Mine kept running once with a poorly ECU, have you got access to a replacement ECU to try? Actually the lights etc staying on would suggest a wiring issue I'd reckon. Something is receiving 12V when it shouldn't. Ignition feed probably. The key release is operated by an electrical solenoid, I think it's an antisnatch thing.
