Young(er) person insurance
I was 22 when I got mine - a 2+2 import. 3points SP30, 1 yr no claim, safe parking. I found about 50% of companies I rang decline me due to age or the fact it was imported  Adrian Flux (I was with them anyway!) gave me the best quote in the end (£2.5k), but wouldn't let me change it to a second car or limited mileage policy part way through the year. They are pretty good with mods though. I suppose you never know who is the "cheapest" insurer 'til you try to claim from them... Pete

Big Kill:(
I've got 2 pedigree cats, and I'd be fooking gutted if some fecker hit them with their car. Ok in probably most cases it's unavoidable eg the cat legs it in front but a "sport" they are not  V eye opening. Pete

Car restoration?
Evenink all. I'm planning to buy an old (possibly knackered) classic car for Question is - what do we buy? I've had suggestions of a Mini, Triumph Spitfire, Ford Cortina and a few others... Obviously parts have to be obtainable, but I want a car with some rarity. Contradiction in terms I know :D . Any suggestions? Like I said, we only wanna spend up to £200ish on the vehicle itself, obviously it'll cost more as we fix it up, respray etc but thats our budgeted outlay for the car itself. Thanks for any replies :) Pete

Help - testing wires...
Took me a fair few hours today but it's all in now! New speakers all round and a shiny new CD player - and everything works - woohoo!! :D:D:D In the end I lopped off the wierd harness connector and traced the source of each wire as Jock said (cheers again bud! :D ) and labelled them all and traced the speakers with the AA battery (cheers Mark!). The hardest bit was getting the stereo and tray/shelf thingy to sit right so I could get the dash back together, that took bloody ages  . But the door trims weren't a problem. Just thought I'd share my success! More money saved through 300zx.co.uk  :) Cheers Pete

Help - testing wires...
Hello all! Just been trying to wire up me new stereo. I linked the corresponding connections from the car (non-Nissan connector) to old Jap stereo to the new Panasonic one via an ISO plug. But the stereo won't come on - nothing, then it got dark  so I gave up. for tonight. I followed the wiring diagram stuck on the back of the old head unit but this ended up being slightly different to what was actually connected to it. What I would like to know is how to test which wires prutruding from the car are which? Can I put a battery across the speaker wires etc? What voltage? How do I test which wires connect to the battery/power and ignition. Its not as easy as matching the colours to those at the speaker ends cos they change colour somewhere in between. Plus the earth wire wasn't connected up to the old unit  - isn't that dangerous? Got a pair of new front speakers (16cm, I'll need to drill some new holes I think) - the stock one really had had it! Had some fun and games getting the door trims off - as its an Import I had to take the seatbelts off which were v tight. Cant wait to try and put it all back on - not. Cheers in advance Pete :)

Grrr - mail order!!
Trying to order some speakers... Why wont anyone accept a different delivery address than the cardholder's (me) address??!! I'm not in between 9 and 5 so how the feck can I order anything??! I remember having loadsa trouble with the co I got my K&N for my old car with, they kept sending it back to the depot after I repeatedly told them a different address! In the end I had to agree to accept theft risk and let them leave it outside my house. W4nkers. Rant over. Incidentally the speakers I's looking at are standard-6" JBL GTO603 2way 125W max or JBL GTO625e 2way 180W max. Both under £50 which is what I want :) Pete

New stereo - wiring?
The Kenwood people got back to me and said I'd have to wire in unterminated connectors, which is what I've bought today :) Seems I have some sort of non-standard configuration  A soldering iron and my sketchy diagram will hopefully do it! Cheers Pete

Stolen alloy valve caps!
Bast4rds! Some little scrotes did this to the wifes Ka after I got her some nice alloys for xmas  . What do they do with them once they've nicked 'em - put them on their own cars? Surely they'd just get nabbed again by some other twat. Pete

New stereo - wiring?
Cheers folks, maybe my dash wont be all over the drivers seat for as long as I first thought :D . James - Hmm their connector's pin configuration looks slightly different: - - - - o - - o - - - - o - - o Whereas mine looks like: - - - oo o - - - - - - - o - - if you see what I mean :) But I've emailled them with my - and o pictures (very proud of them too  ) to see if they can help - cheers mate! FASTREDZ (I've got one of those! :D ) - I'll go into Halfords armed with this info - much apprciated! Now stop gazing through your Zed file and depressing yourself at all the money spent on it :D ;) . Thanks again :) Pete

New stereo - wiring?
Hello! I bought some new rear speakers and a CD player at the weekend and need a bit of help :) The speakers went in fine - Pyle (?!) 6x4s and are looooads better than the standard ones I took out - one of which wasn't connected anyway   . Read loads of posts about bypassing the rear speaker amp etc and redrilling brackets - none of which seemed to apply  . They fitted perfectly and worked fine with the old stereo :) . Thats all fine, but I started on the CD Player (Panasonic CQ-RDP003N incidentally) and it's obviously got a more modern connector with bundle of colourful wires which doesn't simply slot into the connector sticking out of my dash. Luckily the old stereo has a wiring diagram - see attached scan, now do I simply bridge the appropriate connections or is there an adaptor available? (I presume my Zed's connector is the stock 1990 J-Spec?) The wires dont seem to be the same group of colours either. Also in the bottom left of the diag - the 3 pin connector - I can tell the top one is earth but which is "Acc" and which is "Battery" on the bottom two? And what is the symbol that looks like a light on the bottom right one? Dont remember that one from A Level Physics... Other than those two I can match all the other pins to my new one. One last question :) - assuming I'll have to buy a bundle of colourful wires to bridge the connectors - is it possible to buy a pack with them all in? Two wires (Acc and Battery IIRC, yellow and black) are different to the others. Sorry for going on but I'm a complete novice with ICE :) Cheers fellows :D Pete
