I want to fit my 99 spec bumper and use some carbon fibre vents for the foglight holes, the missing part of the plan is an alternative site for the sidelights?

The 99 spec bumper uses its own indicator pods with no parking light facility!

Might sound a little gash, but you could take the headlights out, get some Z32 smoked wing repeaters from DTA, take apart the glass from the base, drill a hole in the base (middle-ish sort of area) and mount them inside. Being smoked, you'll not really notice them against the black base of the light and if you fit LEDs inside them you shouldn't need to take the headlight out to replace a bulb that won't blow! LOL

Use those as indicators and your current bumper indicators as side lights.

....bit like the old 911s....but I am sure you can do it a really near and descrete way if you position it corretly and use the right product.

Cheers si, I am a fan of the clean minimal look, I have considered something similiar, but am still open to other ideas though?

...just don't go fitting those dreadful new Audi LED type surround side lights. One of Audi's worst creations IMHO! LOL

Im in exactly the same boat. I was planning to modify the 99spec Indicators to include an extra bulb for sidelights. However I dont currently have any 99spec Indicators so not sure how possible that is yet.....

Would do it in a heartbeat, but I think the ebay ones may look slightly crap :wack:

Does anyone know what makes a foglight and a sidelight differ?

Any other ideas please fire away?

Not entirely sure what you're getting at here Mark but basically you don't have to have both in the same housing (if that makes sense). Lots of cars have their side lights in a different location to their fogs. As you probably know yourself, the JDM foglight contains two bulbs - one H3 for the fog light and one 501 bulb for the side light. You could, for example, buy one of those projector type fog lights which comes with an "angel eye" ring around the outside. Use the angel eye as side light and the projector as fog light. I know I've seen these advertised online somewhere but can't for the life of me remember where? Perhaps do a search on ebay and see what comes up.

PS - apologies if the above bears no resemblence to the information you were hoping to receive ... ;)

Parking lights? what would they be then?

They illuminate when the indicator comes on, import cars only!

Danny I mean legally speaking what makes a light a foglight or a sidelight?

Hmmm ... I thought it may not have been what I was thinking of ... LOL ;)

I'm pretty sure I've seen some information regarding this on the Department of Transport website. IIRC foglights need to be a minimum of 35W (most bulbs are 55W) and mounted below a certain height. As for sidelights - I think that if you could find a way to reduce the light output on the dip beam then you can use that as side lights. (ie dim-dip). Also, there is no legal requirement to have foglights at the front, only at the rear.

Sorry, the above probably isn't much help either. If I come across the info I'll post it later.

Sorry to bump this thread, any other ideas would be appreicated :)

A slight variation on Si'd idea. How about doing what most naked bikes have, and drill a small hole into the reflective part of the main beam, like below:

HeadlightBrevaFront.jpg

itll take some good craftsmanship and top quality products to get it right but, imo an option/solution to your problem could be an angel eye conversion around the normal dipped beam projector housing... some1 has done it on here previously (cant remember who :()

trouble is... if its not done to a high standard it will easily look crap lol! bmw oem angel eyes look awesome... bmw ebay angel eyes... crap!

imo

or.. brain wave... if you have hids fitted i dont think they get as hot as a normal filament bulb (?) why not have a go at dismantling the headlight unit and mounting a side light inside the projector lens?

another brain wave... the sidelight bulbs are so small you could make a little hole in the inlet ducts you have made a put a little perspex window in it with the sidelight mounted behind.

another idea.. (schumbody schtop meeh).. the uk spec zeds dipped beam bulb illuminates (slightly less than normal) with the side lights on aswell as the lower sidelight bulbs, if you havent got hids (which you are crazy if you dont!) you could utilise this system to solve your lack of sidelights malarky.

AND ANOTHER :headvswal

dont have sidelights? if you turn on the lights... turn em on fully?

sorted...

il stop typing now

side lights and dip beam including dim dip must be separate to pass mot.

>> the missing part of the plan is an alternative site for the sidelights?

What I did: drilled an extra hole in the 99-spec indicator pod (or corner light, or whatever they're called) and put in an ultra bright LED, that I now use as side lights.

It's basically similar as to the motorcycle headlight in a few posts up.

Lately I have also been tjinking about getting a pair of those new LED type daytime running lights (see picture below) and mount/hide those in the upper corners of the intercooler ducts.
