I think we should have a thread with a list of the common things zed's fail the MOT on so we know what to check.

Excess Play in rear HiCas Inner and Outer arms.

Excessive Corrosion of Inner and Outer rear Sills (Due mainly to blocked Targa Drainage Channels)

Excessive Corrosion of Rear Brake Pipe the run up over the rear Sub Frame

Rear Fog Lights in a j-spec (grey area with some mot people failing when its in where the inner brake lights are)

any more?

Excessive wear of inner front tyres due to bad camber (very easily missed as from the outside the tyres look fine, then you notice the inner part is on the metal)

Power Steering Leak (The pipe out of the bottom of the Power Steering Pot is prone to leaking)

Emissions to high (remember when taking car to mot to give it a few hard sprints, then take your foot off the loud pedal as you slow back down, this cleans out your system nicely and help with emissions) (If you have a CAT and your worried Cataclean is top stuff)

Suffering inner tyre wear myself, What should I do to fix bad camber?????

Thanks in advance.

Fit new shocks, springs and camber adjustment arms.

I've been lucky. Only thing mine's ever failed on was a noisey wheel bearing which I already knew about. I try to keep on top of everything so that the car sails through. Last MOT passed no problems.

Could mention the pipe near the balance bar that can be removed just to make the emissions better, sorry I cant remember which one it is...

good tip any ideas which one?:)

Mines not up yet but I might fail on cracked rear tail unit. I'm guessing that happens when you shut the boot too hard???

I have to get a n/s light but it's in a que of this that need doing.

Also my front brakes seem warpped. Do the 4 pot callipers exp problems??

Depsite my probs these cars are awsome. Can't wait till mines tip top!

One of the things my local Nissan garage failed my Zed on last week was a poor horn, aparrently it sounds harsh/grating. It's been the same ever since I bought it, and sounds the same as every other Zed I've heard. Yet they want £150 to fix it.... :x:

Thieving gits. Just go to a scrappy and get another horn.

Mine failed on headligh adjustment, if yours does, get them to do it there and then as they will charge you another half of the MOT fee when you take it back. They have to put it back on the ramp to check.

You won't need the adjustable upper arms if you change the stock springs and shocks, which are now sagging, hence the neg camber producing the tyre wear. You may well end up with a car that looks like a 4x4 however.

The stock horn sounds pants at the best of times. I ripped mine off and fitted a 2-tone Bosch horn from an Omega. The horn has a more quality sound to it, rather than the nasty Datsun Cherry-esque sound of the original. So, worth replacing even if it hasn't failed.

It's the small 4mm pipe on the drivers side near the balancer bar that goes to a T piece if you have a Boost controller plumbed in. Just pull it off the CO drops to well within the .300 range for MOT.

Of course the question is - why does the Zed tickover with 2,400 CO in the first place - must investigate. Putting injector cleaner in first.
