(as above) I got woken up to this on the local news on the radio this morning, and alarm bells went off. I have decided to keep my zed as I get my driving licence back in Feb 09. However this will set me back again!!!!!

I may be wrong but I would expect that the majority of people who have zeds (as well as other big cars) and use them as an everyday car have already felt a pretty large pinch since the recent petrol price rise, but if it is going to double to such likes as £2.30 per Lt when will it stop!!!! food prices will increase further, plane travel as well as all other public transport in fact every thing you can think of will increase. Apart from our house prices that will drop as fast as the economy!!! How will small companies stay afloat????

People in this country just sit on there arse and watch this all happen, if everyone had the balls to stand together and rebel against the shit we put up with it in this country, then the big companies and the government would have to kneel to the countries majority. A couple of days off from work to go to certain key points in the country ie out side the houses of parliament, the larger oil companies, ect and bring the country to a stand still for a couple of days instead of watching it slip through our fingers for the next few years.

Sorry going on a little, the initial question was can you convert a zx to lpg if so what performance decrease would you get, and what mpg on average? Would it be worth paying for. lol

Featured Replies

The problem is we don't control the supply of oil. We have a very meagre amount from the North Sea and generally was was too good a quality to be used for fuel.

LPG will also go up in price along with petrol/diesel - Isn't it a by product ?

wont be worth it, the b***ards will put the tax up on that aswell

That has always been the problem with the British, we just sit back and moan and accept it. But they would probably get the Army out to move us on if we started protesting properly!

I have run LPG cars for about 10 years now, and the peformance decrease is minimal.

The company that converted my last car see's no reason why you couldn't convert a Z, there are conflicting views on this site about it if you do a search.

As for MPG, i would say about 14mpg but since its half the price that equates to 28mpg urban that is, and more on a run.

Isn't it a by product ?

Yes thats what you see burning from the big chimmeys on the rigs

The fact of the taxes issued by the government as well as the mass profit margins of the larger oil companies are the main sources of the increase in the past, whilst the petrol was increasing to the current 113.9 -119.9 pence per litre the large oil companies issued their profits for the year. Which was their all time highest profit, talking about rubbing salt into the wounds of the needy.

And the lpg scenario, yes it is a by-product however, the tax revenue for lpg is much lower.

There is an estimated Population of : 60,776,238 as of july 2007 in the UK, if a 1/4 of us rebelled no army or government or police force ect.... could stop us from protesting to the extent that im talking about.

However, I do understand that their are those arse holes out there that would use it as an excuse to cause hell on earth.

At the moment ! Obviously as the price of petrol rises then so will other fuels in order to not create a vast differential.

Look at how the cost of vegetable oil has gone up in the last year after a) the government allowed you to use 2200 litres per year as fuel, b) the price of diesel has gone up.

LPG- Isn't it a by product ?

its all a by product what comes out of an oil field unless you know of an engine which runs on crude oil ;)

The oil industry has absolutely no incentive to increase production to lower prices.

Why should they, they make far more money by restricting the supply!

That's always been the policy of OPEC and why after the 70's the West found their alternative supplies.

Unfortunately the morons in power over the last 10-15 years have undone all the independance we had worked for and now OPEC rules again!!

Also to add, Oil companies dont make all their profit from petrol and diesel, so the accounts say anyway. Much like any large company they have different products some make more than others.... Most of the profits come from other products, crude oil sale etc.

Just reminding everyone that the £x billion made last week by shell wasnt all directly from our wallets.

Infact i did read soemwhere we have the cheapest diesel out of Europe in this country, just the Tax is so horrific it makes it the most expensive.

very true!!

There is a site I have been looking at about making your own high grade bio-diesel in which you can run even the newest tech diesel engines on with no down sides (in fact they say the quality is better then the fuel out of the pumps)

Ahh thank you new labour for bringing the country to the brink of its knees.

Ahh thank you new labour for bringing the country to the brink of its knees.

well at least they have succeeded in something

Ahh thank you new labour for bringing the country to the brink of its knees.

The rising cost we see at the moment has zero to do with the labour party. Prices of fuel are going up world wide. Europe's fuel prices are the same as the UK, infact I believe in places, they are more expensive.

Latest - OIL June 2008 - is expected to hit $250 a barrel fairly soon - that will mean £2.30 per litre in the UK. Never thought it could happen did you? Who would have said that the past 2-3 years were 'the good old days'?

Not me. But there's a lot of players out there all fixing and manipulating markets. The speculators have done their worst with the financial markets hence the credit crunch - now they are gambling on oil futures hence there's panic and increases even when there's no actual change in the supply or demand.

It's fast approaching a time when to travel will be a past time of the seriously rich and the rest of us will have tin cans occupying our driveways and garages. It's a bit depressing but that's about it.

There worst part I suppose is this - the crooks in the treasury take 70% of every tanful of petrol as tax. They spend or squander it away of many different things, mainly failed computer systems, propping up excess management structures in organisations and education establishments. Which means this. The British driver is now using 20% less fuel due to crippling costs so the exchequer is getting 20% less tax. Getting the picture? What will the Cash Guzzler Darling do when his ATM (the motorist) is down on funds? Well you work it out.

They want us supposedly to drive less, use less oil / fuel etc. But when we do they get less tax to fund scandalous schemes. Outcome? You guessed it. If we do what they want, and spend less at the pumps coz we are being crushed, then they get less income and will hit us again somewhere else. And once we get hit elsewhere, it won't matter if oil reduces because the extra taxes will just stay. Bit like the price of chips at the chip shop - spuds were in short supply one year in the 80's - so up went a bag of chips from 30p to 85p. Spuds got plentiful later but chips stayed high. So it is with this oil / fuel / tax on motoring.

Who will get us out of this? Labour? Tories? The choice my friend is Hobsons. It's like being asked if you prefer to be assaulted by Mike Tyson or Evander Holyfield - who you going to choose?

Enjoy your car while you can - won't be long that's for sure.

The £10 gallon is just round the corner and I recall when we protested at 87p per litre - happy days.

HOW TO ESCAPE THE RECESSION

You can escape the coming financial crash and the economic disaster helped along by 'Prudence' Brown and his bunch of £100 grand a year (without expenses and Gold Plated pensions) cohorts.

Here's how:-

1. Don't buy food

2. Don't have a mortgage

3. Don't drive

4. Don't heat your water or your home

5. Don't fly

6. Don't use public transport - esp trains

There - saved you a fortune - no charge for this advice.................. Oh yes, nearly forgot, whatever you do do NOT grow old in Britain.

The rising cost we see at the moment has zero to do with the labour party.

Perhaps not the Labour party but the price of fuel has everything to do with our government. With the tax levied (By the government) the most expensive diesel on earth is in the United Kingdom!

(At Sullom Voe oil terminal in Shetland,

Diesel is £1.44/ litre or £6.50 ish/ gallon!!)

That has always been the problem with the British, we just sit back and moan and accept it. But they would probably get the Army out to move us on if we started protesting properly!

You could always buy this Z31.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Ahh thank you new labour for bringing the country to the brink of its knees.

I hate agreeing with this, does make me wonder how we will cope with $250 barrels, i think brown could slash the PERCENTAGE OF TAX+ MAKE IT A CAPPED AMOUNT OF £0.xx AMOUNT PER LITRE, it would at least stop the increases screwing the country.

I for one have no idea how i could afford to get to work, heat the house+ eat without some sort of tax break.

With a limit on our fuel taxation, The fact the rest of the europe is suffering high prices+ taxation could finally give our transport industry a helping hand.

On another point, sales of syphoning kits at halfords have increased..:headvswal

Trouble is this is almost exactly what Brown 'foretold' last December - he said that 2008 would be tough on the economy and that 2009 would be worse. He knew because he is part of the problem. He is also part of G8. They know what is happening and whereas I used to think they called all the shots, I realise now that it's the speculators and OPEC that are artificially creating the high prices.

China and India are catching up with the West and it's therefore a sellers market.

We must remember there is an age old maxim - it goes like this:-

If you want to control nations - control their energy / fuel

If you want to control people - control their food.

Now for the conspiracy theorists among us, you'll see this happening in Zimbabwe already. Food witheld from the opposition party people.

The scariest thing about all this is that our energy / fuel and food is now largely controlled by certain nations and ideologies that are diametricaly opposed to the West and it's way of life.

It is ironic that when the UK had a chance to be self sufficient (as any sensible Island peoples should be) we squandered, sold, gave away and forfeited our claim on just about everything we ever owned, controlled, manufactured and valued.

Hence we are known as Treasure Island to those who will risk death to get here and drain us of charity and benefits, plus the nations that are not currently waging open war on us can effectively bring us to our knees through the 2 points I stated above. Far more insidious than that dastardly plan of 1939.

Think this is over reaction? Wait................

if it gets as expensive as this thread suggests ill have to get a job closer to home, no way i can afford to do 70 miles a day at those prices.

Ill just go on the dole, claim benefits and let every other ******* pay for me, works for masses of folk who on all accounts are now living a lot more comfortably than me!

Ill just go on the dole, claim benefits and let every other ******* pay for me, works for masses of folk who on all accounts are now living a lot more comfortably than me!

I see a slight problem here..........

It will only work if :-

1. you are not white heterosexual male

2. have a work ethic

3. are non criminal

4. in UK lawfully

5. fully paid up stamp and NI

6. do not have 7 kids with 5 different fathers

7. can speak and read English

Somebody stop me I'm getting all Meldrew again.

Trouble is Victor M was never wrong, just went about it a funny way.

Just know this when Gordon Brown says 'He feels the motorists pain' what he means is one of his highly paid lackies did a Google search on 'pain' and 'motorist' - changed a few words and came up with 'I feel' all on his own.

Gordo Grabber Brown does not feel economic pain like the rest of us and never will thanks to clever self protective pension and salary agreements.

Remember Blair when he came to office said the most important issue for New Labour were the thre 'E's' "Expenses, Expenses, Expenses............." you thought it was Education dint ya? Mugs.
