hi people

i have an a/m oil temp gauge, and need to plum it in somewhere?

i have been told that i can drill and tap the sump!!!????! (no!)

or, after removing the oil filter you can screw in a housing or "something", then the oil filter can screw into that and the housing or "something" has connections for the oil temp gauge to plum into?!?!?

i know its a bit vague, but i am sure someone here knows what i am on about........ i think?

cheers

you can tap into the sump, but it must be off the engine or you will get swarf inside. which means its an engine out jobbie.

or you can get a sandwich plate, so when you do your next oil change fit the plate and your sender. job done

HTH

I had aftermarket gauges on the car I broke, the sender was in a gallery in the passenger side of the engine in a block I think that came from turbo pipes or something. I will have a look as I have some pics somewhere of where it was mounted. I had a sandwich plate but decided rather than fit an oil pressure gauge but fitted a voltmeter instead, less hassle in the end.

Cheers John

Update had a look but cant find the pics, must have deleted them sorry

i bought that 1 and as soon as the car got hot it dumped 50 quids worth of freshly filled silkolene oil straight through the seal and onto the fookin floor  ! having removed it i noticed that the union that mounts the sandwich plate to the oil filter housing petrudes further out than the housing seal so once the union had bottomed out and felt tight, the seal hadnt quite made a good enough seal...

I had the same problem with one I fitted but I know a lot of people do use them.

Tried fitting it a couple of times with different filters etc and just dumps all my oil in no time under power.

Drilling the sump is not an option either!

There are a couple of spare blanking plugs in the block near the stock oil sender you can use if your sender is the right size.

Tell me more Chris!!

I need to do this as my stock gauge keeps bottoming out when the oil is hot.

I already have another gauge, but was wondering the neatest way to attach it.

The blanking plugs simply have to be unscrewed and the other sender unit screwed in? Whereabouts are these blanking plugs?

Many thanks,

Rob.

I haven't been under the car in ages but I'm pretty sure there is one right next to the stock sender.

It's all down to the size of the sender if it fits though, not just the thread.

Definatly not:nono:

Not just because of the debris getting into the oil but you want a pressure sender right?

You will not get a pressure reading from the sump - temperature yes - but pressure must be measured from an oil-way or the feed to the filter!

Edit - sorry just read yout thread and you did mention oil temp - that'l teach me to read things properly!!

Your title says oil pressure; I guess that threw me:wack:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Agreed,

I had and still have a oil temperature sump plug sensor fitted to my Z although I removed the gauge as I didn't use the gauge
