I took the passenger side kick panel off to gain access in running a power cable through the bulkhead. Now I noticed something that I haven't noticed before, the little silver box next to the ECU wasn't connected to th plug that's dangling below it.

Can anyone tell me what this is and why it may have been disconnected?

Thanks

The PDF is wrong, it cant be a NA PAS ECU as that box is in each of the Jap TT's I have removed the Autobox ecu out of this week.

ok, just looked in another Manual.

Its the Hicas Control unit.

(Hicas ECU for TT's and PAS ECU on NA's)

So you've had your Hicas disabled.

How can that be when it works? The HICAS light will come on over a certain speed because my tracking is out to such a degree and HICAS boss is on the cock that the steering wheel turns as I accelerate. Hicas check light comes on when the car is started and goes out as per normal operation.

Thanks John. Thought it might have been. My car has an aftermarket wheel on it, and therefore has been unplugged. Not sure what would do if I plugged it back in? Nothing I'd imagine.

the one that you are talking is not the cruise control ecu as i just stripped a manual without cruise contol and this ecu is under the engine ecu

It's a toya wilcox moment.

A total mystery.

What does the writing say or is it in Japannese?

Should get that racking problem sorted Si. Or perhaps that why you have the problem, the controler is disconected?

It's something that happened ages ago and haven't ever sorted out. When I had the engine rebuilt the column was disconnected from the rack because the subframe was moved to get the engine out, when refitted, it was fitted off-centre and so when the wheels are in a straight line, the HICAS thinks it's actually making very mild turn to the right (as the HICAS boss is telling it) so it then adjusts accordingly and has a hissy fit then turns off as it gets confused! LOL.

I'm rebuilding all the suspension as from next weekend I hope, so it's something that I'll sort then as I'm having all the castor and camber set too. So want it all working 101%.

its cant be the cruise unit as the one i just stripped didnt have cruise and had this unit in place

What did you strip? An N/A or TT?

its cant be the cruise unit as the one i just stripped didnt have cruise and had this unit in place

I think you've misread. your previous post said the box on the one you stripped was under the Engine ECU. The box Funkysi means is next to the Engine ECU, not under it and that is the Cruise control ECU.

The box under the Engine ECU is the PAS/Hicas ECU.

That's the cruise control ECU.

The box Funkysi means is next to the Engine ECU, not under it and that is the Cruise control ECU.

Wish I'd thought of that :smash::rolleyes:

Guys its the ASCD ECU for the cruise control. the aus300zx tech section use to have photos that would of helped me confirm what the box was but im pretty confident its the ASCD unit. Check the part number, there were two different ASCD ecu units in the zed. The 89-92 16bit ECU which most cruise control zeds have and then the 32bit 92+ ASCD ECU. If u need the number checked ive got both and i hope to install the 92+ ASCD unit one day on my zed.

It's the flux capacitor :)

Looking at the diagrams it does look like the ASCD computer.

Mine looks slightly different to that but I think that may be becuase my Z's an 89 model. I suspect your's is a little younger maybe series 2 ?.

taken the unit to a nissan dealer and it turns out that it is the power steering ecu

Yep, the one under the Main ECU is the PAS ECU.

The one si is talking about is the Cruise control ecu.
