Not all of US BM owners are pratts? Just the ones who have never experienced the 300ZX I think for a 2.5 the car is rather slow? Fast enough for a family saloon but to get anywhere in any time you gotta use the trip tronic and then it wouldn't blow the skin off a rice pudding. But its still a good car.

My car will beat that V8 so yours would slaughter it Ian. :)

i would have thought upto 30-40mph it would be pretty close as his will be in the powerband earlier but after that you would pull away like he was going backwards ;)

John was this the new one?

Yes. If you do race him, do it with your windows down, the sound is awesome!

He was revving its arse off as I left and it did sound awesome.

Pah!-I'd have him in my Tranny! (that don't sound right!)
It does to ChrisC LOL.

I spent Saturday having fun with one of these at a trackday...I can safely say most Zeds would not stand a chance with one of the new V8 M3's. Despite a peak of 'only' 295Ibs/ft, they have a very wide powerband and the traction and grip through and out of bends is exceptional. My supra is a touch faster than both my Zed's were (both hybrid turbos at 14/15 psi) and the M3 was able to pull out a 2-3 car gap on me down the 1.2 mile runway probably due to better traction out of the bend. It also didn't seem to stop at an indicated 160mph (although with speedo inaccuracy it was probably right on 155).

Mac's car of course will leave it for dead in a straight line but I reckon you would need at least 555's and 16+ psi to beat one. Round a track / twisty b road I would say there are even fewer that could keep it in sight.

Motorway 40mph roll on would ensure maximum humiliation Mac:D

i was behind mac as he pulled onto a main road and he give it a footfull:shock: the acceleration from that zed is amazing and 3ft long flames between gears from the pipes had my front screen rattling:eek: also the mid-range punch when overtaking was unreal and that was with big Kim in the front full of tan hill sausage and yorkshire pudding:rofl:;)

how quick is your car iain, 0-60 and 1/4 mile time if i had a car with the power yours has i would have these splashed all over my sig.

And that can make a huge difference......

.....my SLK350 has only 350 Nm peak torque (not sure what that is in "old money") but it delivers that constantly between 2400 and 5000rpm (a nice long flat torque curve). Which gives it superb acceleration across the range - I reckon it is slightly faster than my ZX right up to 80, maybe 90mph; although after that the ZX will pull further and further away.

From 100mph (on a test track) the ZX will easily take the SLK........:hyper:

Richard:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

LOL:rofl:@ Kim and sausage

Bri when I accelerated up the hill I was struggling for traction so I backed off, when we got on the big straight thats when I opened her up a quick glance on the boost gauge on chan 3 and I could see 32psi.

I have done an unofficial 11 second quarter on a GPS but I guess I wont know the answer until I find a gearbox that will take it:(Fingers crossed I hope to have it sorted this summer.

The new M3 has the old e39 M5 engine which was 400bhp and 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, Bmw have tuned the engine now to get an extra 20 odd bhp and put it in the lighter car. Personally i wouldnt run with one, but then again im only running 15psi. My 96 e39 540 is never far behind the Z...

Its a completely new unit in the M3 derived from the latest M5 5l V10 engine. The old M5 engine had much more torque (at least peak torque) than the M3 at 369 Ib ft. Haven't seen the curve's for the engines but i bet the area underneath the new one is pretty close.

Edit...Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_S65

295 is the grams of C02 per km...

The torque is 400Nm @ 3900rpm and 420hp.

0-60 is 4.6seconds.

Can (a modified) 300zx really beat this car? with it's launch control etc If it can, can it do it more than once? I bet the BMW will do it all day without any hassle.

Lol! What?! CO2?

400N.m = 295 Ibs ft

Most tuned Zeds will have 450-500 N.m of torque. Got it beat in this area but my experience with this new M3 has shown me you can't just base things on figures alone. Like I said though, the T28 boys & above have got it beat.

LOL. coincidence actually... 400Nm is 295Lbft... and the new BMW V8 emmits 295g co2/k
