Hey guy, new to the forum and i have a dilemma,

i'm currently on a hunt for a new car i have narrowed it down to basically a 300zx N/A 2+2 LWB or a Mark 4 Supra N/A

Thoughts, ideas, comparsions, pros and cons, anything yo can think of to help me make a descision would be greatly appriceated.

Please and Thank you

well ill give you my input (for what its worth lol)

Pretty soon everyone will have a Supra now costs are coming down ( and the fast and furious mob flock to them), the zed will give you a little more cred, you will be a little bit different, which is good.

Mechanically though sorry not got a clue lol

when i was buying a car - i was looking at a 300zx, supra, or a Mitsubishi gt3000 - and i'm here - so u can see my choice! haha... i chose the zed for its looks and it is more 'rare' than the tonnes of supra's and few gt3000's around here.

300zx N/A is pretty reliable. It's also far better looking car. Supra is an ugly old bean.

Have you seen the dashboard on Supra? :hurl:

I have a mk3 supra na as a daily driver

Had it 6 months, everything worked when I bought it

And everything still works!

Great daily driver but it doesnt make me smile like the z

Toyota's are generally bullet proof so are Nissan's. I dont like the look of the Supra, but the TT is a nice drive and is very similar to a Z TT in performance and handling. I've never driven a Supra mkIV NA though, but THE Zed NA is a brill car to drive so you really need to test em both.

I prefer the look of the MK3 Supra over the MK4. Infact, I quite like the MK3 Supra. Sure, it's dated, but it looks a bit retro. Much nicer than the Jelly bean MK4 and it's pretty rare now. In much the same way as I prefer the Starion over the GTO.

Me too.....

.....I had 2 Mk3 Supra Turbos before I got my 300zx; they were very good cars in their day

My last was an imported targa top in black with the digital dash - it was just like KITT ;)

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

PMSL, I actually searched for 'Supra Dash' and this came up....seriously!

Had Both, personally i thought the supra did not live up to the reputation it seems to have built up.

Obviously it sounds biased, but i would have a 300zx anyday.

HTH ;)

You can see where that dash started out, not quite as nasty as the mk4 wrap around one tho. My supra isn't what you would call stock lol

Have driven in NA and TT form. Near Identical performance. NA Zed sounds better than NA Supra IMO (although TT supra sounds better than NA zed). Despite looking longer they are actually less praticle than the Zed with less rear leg room and a smaller boot.

But the big downside for me was driving experience...perfectly nice to drive, but a bit on the dull side in comparison and definatly feels bigger and more cumbersome on the road. It also not as sure-footed on the road at higher speed. Paul@SWZ Performance owns both and feels the same way too.

Looks - Not keen in standard trim, does look a bit newer and can look nice with the right subtle body changes.

All comes down to which you prefer rather than one being better than the other IMO

The Zed has an undeserved reliablity stigma attached to it, and Im sure if you ask the same question on the supra forum they will go on about how unreliable they think it is because there mate bought a rough example for peanuts and it broke down

Btw Si, was talking to a Mk4 Supra guy the other week who was taking the piss out of the Zed interior :nono: (and deservadly - the skyline interior) .

Yes I know. It's the materials on the interior that let the Z down. The shape is fantastic so it's easily sorted. The whole shape of the MK4 Supra interior is just big, ugly and unflattering compared to the swoopy wrap around dash of the Z.

i love the supra and its interior,i also love my zed so in my eyes its six of one and half a dozen of the other ;)

nearly got a mkiv supra before i got the zed and to be honest i'm glad i did'nt, even though the zed's engine is a lot harder to work on with it being a V6, for me its just a better all round car. and i have to agree with Si on the mitsi starion over the GTO.

Well i have all 3 :) the mk3 supra mk4 and the zx. the mk3 is slow dated and now scraped, as th underneath wasnt to good,

Love the mk4 supra, really nice to drive and has plenty of poke in it. interiour is nice style, its a bit plasticy and to craped in side for me, also i find the build quality is no where as nere as good as the as the zx

THe supra is a really harsh ride, alot harder than my zx lowered on coilover

Overall i would pick the 300zx all day. nicer to look except from the rear, but there is more room inside and in the boot, has better build quality and much much nicer to drive

As mentioned by someone else earlier, i also looked at a MK4 Supra N/a, a GTO N/A and a Z N/A.

I ended up buying the Z on the basis that it was the best looking car, inside and out. Plus, it was the most comfortable and best driving position.

IMHO

thanks for the the info, was kind looking for which one has a more involving drive (test drives only let you do so much) looks aside which is more trackable, tunable?

thank once again for all you input.

With N/A there not very good for tuning, You will get both zx and supra to around 240-250 on a good engine, anything after that your talking alot £££££

The NA's are so equal there is little to seperate them. Similar weight, similar power, and similar tunablity.

I have to disagree here! Having owned both the mkiv interior is far superior to the Zed imo. Much more solidly put together than the cheapo Zed switch gear. Plus the dash was designed to focus everything towards the driver and works very well in this respect. My UK spec Zed was much better put together than my J-spec though I have to say, but probably as it was a few years younger.

On the outside...well each to their own but I am happy with what I have.
