10w40 is the velocity Nissan specify for the 300zx. Cant comment on Mobil though, never used it, but any high quality 10w40 Semi-synthentic is recomended.

ooops.... sorry

You should see my driveway!!!!!

So this means I shouldn´t use Mobile? 10X40? instead what could be another good brand? does it make any difference if it´s sinthetic or semi??

10w40 is fine. Synthetic will last longer than a semi etc, but most people change their oil so frequently it's not really 'worn out' anyway.

DO NOT USE FULLY SYNTHETIC!!!! I used it in my engine and I'm sure it contributed to it's failure.

i use fully synthetic and have done for two and half years never had any probs i guess people just get used to different things

The worse bit is the smoking under the bonnet which goes after a couple mins. i cant stand it. i reall shouldnt be driving it.

probably one of the cam seals gone then or crank seal is there one on the front and behind the fly wheel?

Rubbish ! Of course using the wrong grade is far more likely to cause damage.

I doubt that Ivan........

..........with very few exceptions (RX7 for instance) a high quality fully synthetic oil of the right viscocoty will always be better than semi synth or mineral oil.

As for Mobil-1 0w40; a 0w40 oil will offer the SAME protection and be the same viscosity as a 10w40 when hot. The "0w" part just refers to the ability to circulate round the engine quickly when cold - the lower the "w" number the better in the cold AT START-UP! It's the "40" part that determines the thickness when hot - ie the ability to withstand high temperatures.

However from my experience with Mobil-1 in my Mk3 Supra some years back, for some reason the oil pressure seemed lower at full temp than with Castrol RS 0w40 or Shell Helix 5w40.

In the UK it never gets cold enough to really benefit from a "0w" anyway so a decent 5w40 or 10w40 will be fine for a 300zx that is not seriously modified for extra performance.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
