I have decided to get my new zed in mint condition, so I spent some time with my local bodyshop over the weekend.

They have given me a great price for a respray in the original Gunmetal grey - but If I am getting the work done - now might be a good time to get a colour change.

I like the grey, but I also like the focus ST Orange...

What do you think?

I have to agree with Craig Daaaaavid. Personal opinion; show car with body kit and bling, gun grey for restored orignal looking Zed. Honestly though, it will look cool what ever you decide, good luck, let us know the outcome.

Just a thought - but have you looked at the orange that the Megane Sport comes in at the moment - I really like that... guranteed to stand out in a crowd...

CheerZ,

JB.

When the 300ZX came out that grey was excellent and in my opinion it looks even better today. I personally would not have THIS car in orange as it's the kind of thing that attracts a lot of attention and for me unwanted attention. I think a newly repainted original grey zed would be a class act. grey alloys and cleared/smoked indicators all round and it would IMHO be one of the best Zed's out there. For me part of the class of the zed is its Q-car status mixed in with a bit of 80's sports car machissmo - it's under rated, but only by the novice/the flash crowd but highly regarded by the connoisseur, as he does not care what others think and he knows, i.e. he is the authority on this car not them, he drives the car because he knows it, loves and feels it - he doesn't quote the figures or have anything to prove to anyone else. He is not a copycat following the lead of the salesperson, reporter, clarksonperson or crowd in general. He stands for something. I think the Zed in that gun metal is understated - as I think it should be in the best sense of the word. A elegant act, not asking to be noticed by those who shouldn't be in the know about it... a mild mannered reporter during the day... you got my drift... it's why i prefer it to a supra, it's why i would never put a high spoiler on it... It's why Steve-300ZX's car just works. Believe me I like a lot of the kits, but in my heart I just think to myself why spoil such a beautiful machine... For me the ethos of the car, especially the twin turbo is all about effortlessness... I put my foot down and it gets there quitely, proudly, surely and honestly... It doesn't shout out about its performance, it doesn't let everyone know it's here... it doesn't really even break into a sweat... I guess for me what it boils down to is the simple fact that I believe that what we have, and what unites us, is respect for one of the best cars ever produced. Why shout out that you have what it takes if you already know you have it? Grey my friend, Gunmetal Grey - Original and Best! Just my 2 pence...

Of all the colours mentioned above - what one were you thinking of?

For all the reasons above......

.......if it is a choice between the 2 then stick with the grey. Classy and subtle. The orange is far too lairy for the ZX IMO, although some of the pictures posted of orange ZXs do look pretty good. However the orange will date too quickly; it is only "fashionable" because of the new Lambos and the Focus "Asbo" being available in thise colours.

If you must go "orange" how about the metallic gold from the 350Z? Not sure it will really suit the 300 though......

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I like the orange, but on a standard car without body mods then steer well clear.

You might get away with it sat on 19s and dropped but then you might not.

Haveing seen a couple of the standard yellow Zeds and likeing what I see, I still can't see orange being right for standard body lines.

You need photoshop

Anyone got any pics of bodykitted Z's in orange? Especially wide arched Z's??

regards Kev

Although I'm not so sure about the orange myself, here's a few more different shades that might help you decide:

I must admit I am a stickler for originality and I have a SWB TT slicktop in gunmetal grey which is totally original (owned for 7+ years) but will meet the same fate sooner or later due to weathered paint etc. I also owned until a couple of months ago the Lambo Orange Z shown in SWZ'S pics and it does look the dogs. Apart from turning heads I think it really suited the mark, a shame they didn't do it before the 350-Z burnt orange launch! What I would add though was this was applied as far as I could make out directly onto a flatted standard silver. Lambo recommend I believe a white undercoat? Anyway the result was a great shean... Wonder where the motor is now? went to Northumberland but immediately advertised for +£1Kish in the autotrader.

Cheers guys.

My Z is at Bodywork plus. Side vent cut down sides of both door, strosec front end, widened strosec rear arches, strosec rear bumper, toyota supra veilside C2 carbon fibre rear wing. Plus, other minor tweaks. was planning on having in Lamborghini orange Arancio Atlas. When i saw pic of standard Z started to get worried. I think a deep pearl orange with deep dish chrome wheels works.

Regards Kev

Well rather then Having ST Orange...

Have a look at Lambo orange. The colour they use on the Gallardo.

That colour would look sweet as a nut on a Zed.
