Let me know how you get the front number plate holder off if its a uk model ? !

If you go on most 'Show plates' web sites, they will allow you to select the size of plate you require. Failing that, a market stall show plate manufacturer will be able to help, you'll find them all over car shows. Remember to keep original in the boot. Police can demand that the car is not moved whilst displaying illegal plates, so keep the old one and have a reel of tape to hand.

I got mine from carnoseur. I have 2 now, one smaller then the other.

I have those 'funky little number plates' fitted to my car which are only slightly smaller than normal, and I got pulled by the police on my first visit to Cheddar in it. He let me off as I had not had the car long (3 days at the time) but I am expecting another pull soon as I have still not changed the front plate which in Bristol does not seem to be a problem. Apparently the minimum height of the letters should be 79mm. :)

Does anyone know for sure what the penalty is for no plate on the front? As I often run no plate at all, never been pulled for it.

Well, I've had mine on for almost 2 years now and not once been pulled over for them.

Got mine from Fancy Plates too.

Got pulled for speeding last week but they never said anything about the front plate.

Mine are from Fancy Plates too . They may or may not be illegal , but the Congestion Charge camera took a nice pic of my front one , which was sure big enough for their purposes ! Cost me £50 `cause I forgot all about the charge and drove 10 minutes before the 6-o-clock deadline . The worst part is , I`ve got a Residents Discount of 90% , so I could have paid the fookers £4 for the min. 5 days charge :wack:

I`ve said me piece

take the front bumper off and you will get the surround off no problem, mines a uk and it was just a couple of screws and clips, 1 hour job,

well ive just got a £30 fixed penalty for my plate is it illegal on a j spec or not

Your plate , and the font , look bigger than mine !!

My understanding is that the number plate can only be smaller than specified if there is a specific recess for the plate that restricts its size, as there is on the rear of a J spec.

Did you get any points?

no points just a fixed penalty. havnt paid it yet im going to measure the characters to see if they meet specifications. for certain imported vechicles.for which cant accomodate standard size number plates.

  • 6 months later...

I had the same size plate as si's for about 3 years on different vehicles (its called 3/4 size on fancyplates.com) and have had no problems with police...and have even been stopped twice by the police for other reasons and they never mentioned the plate.

Luck of the draw I guess.
