Received this postcard from my son who is down in Southend-on-Sea working (I think  ) and surprise, surprise there's a Zed on it

Reg No. looks likes BD 224 and it's a UK spec - anyone's here

Uk spec....by the sea? Probably turned back into the ferrous ore from whence it came!

;)

Looking at the other cars in the pic, I'd say this was taken some time ago - maybe back when the 300zx was still in production in the UK?

Still, it's a great find though

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Just to add.......

......Southend, those were the days........

Many a mis-spent youth there when I lived in East London.........Friday and Saturday nights at TOTS; races back down the A127 in my Manta......

.....How I loved the late 1980s

Richard

You had a Manta Richard?

BTW, are those chavs crossing that Pelican Crossing?

You had a Manta Richard?........

Sure did Si - I was always a Vauxhall/Opel fan before getting bitten by the Jap bug. I still look back on that car with a great fondness........

My 1st car was a Mk1 Cav 1.6 RWD (way back in 1987). I had 2 of them, then I got the sports hatch 1.9 version. After a few months I had the Manta, before geting through 2 Mk2 Cav SRis. I then got a 6 month old Astra GTE when I was 19 (back in 1989) but alas it came off worst in an argument with a tree.....

I had a couple of Mk3 Cav SRi/CDis until 1993, when I bought a Carina-E GTi (173bhp) and (with the exception of my SLK) have stayed loyal to Japanese cars ever since

Don't think it was long ago, judging by the Chav on the crossing!! :wack:

No mate, that's just Essex for you - it's always been that way......

.......besides reg number BD 224 is no longer registered at DVLA according to

Hi,

Have a look at the date on the postcard...usually tells you when it was created.

cant be much later than that as the senator would have been on the back of a tow truck with the zed.

Excellent stuff! I always used to have Vauxhalls. Easy to maintain and I have a fondness for the mid-80s stuff like the Astra GTE 16v etc and the Late spec Mantas.

The car my Z replaced was this. Bought this when I was 21 after leaving uni..

A Calibra V6 coughed up its guts and was the new heart to this, originally rather dowdy Cabrio. Fitted a GSi bodykit and imported a very rare saloon style GSi rear bumper which I sourced from South Africa. Only one at the time. Look ok for a Mk3 Astra Cabrio and went well. Sounded great!

Your Astra looks great in the "after" picture once it was colour coded etc....

I have that same fondness for the mid-80s - I was a teenager at the time and loved cars like the Manta, Astra GTE, BMW 635, Porsche 928, Jag XJs etc etc

I hated the Fords though - I always thought the XR2/XR3i and Rusty Turbo were :xxx: s cars. I kind of liked the Sierra Cosworth but would not have bought one out of principle :wack:

That car was about a couple of years ago, was not the best of condition and was driven by this massive fat guy with a comb-over.
