Well the time has come for me to look for another job.

My boss is pissing me right off and has been for a very long time now, and after a heated debate the other day there is no turning back.

So begins my job hunt.

My question to you guys is this - does long hair on men in this day and age still matter when going to an interview?

My hair is shoulder length, and at the back, its a little lower than the base of my neck. It's in good condition and tidy. I'm thinking that if I dress up like I usually do, wear a nice suit, shirt etc etc I can pull it off if I tie it back neatly, but just wondering what you guys think.

I work in accounts, so not much customer facing at all.

Cheers!

Yeah, tie it up and you'll be fine. Looks pretty smart. I used to have hair just like that what seems like many moons ago.

Cheers Greg & Fairlady girl, still thinking I'll go with tied back like Vinny says for the interviews, although if done right I think down with a suit looks pretty cool.

First impressions are very important and if you look smart as I am sure you will then the hair do wont make a lot of difference Steve.

Good luck mate. If it was me I would give you the job. :D

IMO, it all depends on the type of job your going for, and seeing as yours would be office based, I think your hair looks fine hanging mate, very neat and tidy.

I agree with this too Steve.

What type of accounts job are you going for?

I only ask as I'm an accountant myself - I spent 16 years in the profession, where things were a lot more "traditional" (You know, suit/tie/short back and sides etc etc). Now I work in commerce as a financial manager/director and things are a lot more casual. I go to work in jeans and a t-shirt, unshaven etc and it doesn't matter. In the last 3 1/2 years I've only worn a suit 3 times (and one was for my Gran's funeral!).

Plus as an interviewer myself, I wouldn't judge a male applicant on the length of his hair. Providing it was well kept and not those awful chav-stye "curtains" or greased down look then all would be ok.

Based on your photos, your hair would make no difference to me (in fact I'd be jealous because I'm bald ;) ) so go for it.

Good luck mate!

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

yes for sure, when you said long hair i visualised long scraggley, greasy and unkept.

your hair is not long its nice and styled!

Cool thanks for the kind comments guys and girls, gives me a bit more confidence in thinking that all will be good. I've had short hair when getting all of my jobs in the past 10 years or so, I just thought that people may judge me on my long hair when they first saw me, and may strike me off.

Richard, I work as an accounts assistant mostly, AAT qualified but not up to chatered level or management accountant. Normal general ledger, sales, purchase, reporting, reconciliations, balance sheet, P&L, investment appraisals etc that sort of crap. Exciting stuff you know? lol, well not really, not my first choice of work but it pays the bills, kinda fell into it........................

Fairladygirl, it's pretty long, I just like to look after it, bit of a woman when it comes to my hair lol.

K pics up, courtesy of my nokia and the work bog lol.

Dude, you should go yourself - no point putting on a pretence to get a job or you will only be miserable keeping it up with an image that isn't quite right for you.

If they don't take you as you are - then its not the place for you.

However, if they do take you and you haven't made any compramises, it will work out better for all parties.

hth

Wasn't that termed as an 'undercut'? Where the back and underneath was all shaven leaving an almost pudding basin affair on top? Dreadful! lol

Clean up the sidies, shave the bumb fluf off the neck and top lip and go with the pony tail. don'tsee there being a problem with that at all.

I Run a recruitment angeny and have to send people for interviews frequently enough to have a good idea as to what bosses think is acceptable or not.

I think thats the light mate, I only shaved the night before, and going to go cleanly shaved to any interviews for sure. But yeh I forgot about the sidies.

Didn't notice the hair was messy around my neck either, it's just new hair growing, guess I could trim that off.

Cheers.

just dont let your potentional new employers see that you stand in the toilets taking poics of yourself and im sure you will be fine

Spot on

Be confident but , not overly familiar and act respectfully but not humble. Basically if youy sure you can do the job well then be yourself and relax.

Anyway how did it go have you got the job.

Thanks for the advice guys, the interview isnt for another couple of weeks as the company I'm going for are on shutdown atm so awaiting confirmation of a time when they return to business. They have already said they want to see me so it's just a case of waiting now.

I've got a few agencies on the case though to keep their eyes peeled for other positions that come up which may suit me.

Cheers.
