well, not me, but chris.

Chris * Black 300zx JSpec Manual TT Has just traded in and got himself and 03 Evo FQ-300

Stupidly fast, Im taking it out for a spin tomorrow :)

Anyways

Can I have just a quick poll/reference

Whats it like on straight line acceleration gainst the zed, I know in a corner or brakes it'll kill zed but how are they for straight line speed gainst us.

They sound expensive to run, from what I heard looks like bout 5x more than a zed to keep on road.

anyone any experiences.

Which FQ is it, the 360 or the 400? I would have thought that they would both slaughter a zed in a straight line.

From what I have read evo's tear off to 40-50 mph then they get reeled back in.

I could be wrong? Jay make sure to report back!.

and about 5mpg

they are ****ing tosh out of their power band tho, anyone see that Topgear epidosde when jezza drag raced the FQ 360 against somthing really normal and it got mullered because it was out of its band

Don't strain your left arm from all the gear changing, I'm sure they reach 60 in fourth. :D

yeah im sure its all down to the lighter weight, tighter gearing, 4WD and more advanced traction. thats about it really. give an Evo and a Z a nice long straight runway and the Evo would run out of puff before the Z even stretched its legs in 4th.

off boost they have the power of a fiesta,on boost they have the thrust and vigour of an f16 fighter jet ;)

I raced one, it died at 140, the zed was in 5th left it for the dead...

And ye very short legged

If it helps, I had a new Fq-340 2 years ago and it was fantastically quick to around 100mph. It is true that they are are laggy but going through the gears as you should it was crazy. First gear was really redundant and I found myself really just using it to pull off, putting it into second as soon as I could.

I sold it as the servicing was an absolute pain and a rip off, and I also found the car hard to live with due to me being too nervous to leave anywhere. A shame really as they are amazing to drive. If you can live with my above comments and the tackiness of the interior, then they are hard to beat. Oh and they do like petrol!

I can't really comment on the comparison between the zed and the evo, as I only have an n/a, but the evo wouldn't live with the skyline I replaced it with.

Ade.

my mate has an evo 360 doesnt seem much after about 80, but from 0-80 its very very fast. very very good handling and has switchable traction for wet snow and gravel mode. sometimes th back does twitch but never as much as a zed. once a half moded zed gets going im sure itll leave the evo for dead. gearing is way too short.

The whole power band thing is a non-starter really as its like any car, you just drive it to its strengths. It'll be like any big single turbo setup (don't know whats on the Evo but you get my drift?). Besides if the engine isn't singing at 5k then its not being drove like it should be!? The Zed may be pretty good out of its power band with its V6 and TT's but its still crap compared to the way it drives if you keep it around 5k and match your gears and all that stuff.

As for how you'll do against the EVO, I think it will rape you on the drag and the twisties simply due to the gearing and 4wd and weight difference. He wont have to do anything other than put his foot down and steer. The car will do the rest for him.

Not my cup of tea personally but I'd love to try one out. You'll be able to reel him in once you are over 100mph but then there will be another corner so you'll have to start again haha.

best to drive one to make an opinion , The fq400 yes is a bit laggy, the top gear test was stupid. The zed does have top end but the evo out does it on handling and power to weight. Rapid cars as standard and good for 130-140 before it loses its band, I have the evo 7 1st but didnt get on with all the driving aids same as i didnt get on with hicas etc on the zed , But now i have the earlier evo and its been tweaked , then it will have no problem up against any other road car out there

The amount of power you are getting out of such a small engine is incredible Karl. The thing must be practically hovering after a hard run. Mind you my rex is technically a 1.3 :)

its the FQ-300 model

He still hasnt got it yet :(

Should be tomorrow :)

cant wait to take it for a spin.....

I read they are very expensive on servicing, tyres, fuel etc.

Still think the zed looks a nicer car, but those things are pretty much the fastest point to point car on the road I believe.

I dont think the fq300 sudders the lag of the 360/400.

Do the tyres really cost £2K too???

I know you cant put cheap tyres on cars like these, but £2K is a bit steep.

.

Still think the zed looks a nicer car,

no sh1t Jay you have one of the all time nicest zeds so you should know :D :hyper:

they reckon the fq 340 is about the best, one kept up with me to about 130 with no sign of me getting past him, we had to slow down as the road was getting to the end

the fq 400 is the one with the expesive cost's, an fq 300 will have only 300bhp, a normal evo is supposed to have more than that (or so im told)

im really wanting an evo7 for my next car, much nicer than the eight

I know you cant put cheap tyres on cars like these, but £2K is a bit steep.

Bit steep? Thats F'ing verticle :)

£2k tyres ?? erh..no. They are smaller and skinnier than tyres fitted to zed's and therefore will be cheaper.

Same for servicing, its just a 2.0 4 cylinder engine so costs will be less. More frequently needed though.

When I had mine the servicing bill came in at just over 2k a year. The clutch is only supposed to last 4-6 thousand miles and was costly to replace.

I am talking about my experience with a brand new one, and obviously this would differ to a secondhand car, but basically, if you want one of these then be prepared to pay for it. You can run them on a shoestring, which can be said for every car, but it's not advisable.

Hope this helps.

Ade.

2k for tyres ha ha dont be silly , they are cheaper than zed tyres , Serviceing is every 4500miles BUT isnt a full service is basics like oil and fluid changes, Cambelt it the 60k mile one and servicing is even cheaper than the zed by along way . look here for servicing charges..cheap cheap !! :

Yes clutches should be fine but all depends how u drive and if u launch the car , if you drive hard and launch then expect to change ur clutch with an uprated one then u will be fine. Also the fq300 is 300bhp same as the fq320 is 320 and the fq360 is 360bhp etc etc. The evo 7 + 8 are both 280bhp stock form unless u go for the lesser version of the 260. Not expensive to run unless u rag it again like any car ur petrol will drop but again no way will it eat anywhere near as much as the zed . A full tank will cost u £50 and u will get 200-240 miles out of it on average.

the evo 8 gsr weighs 1410kg or the rs version weighs 1320kg hence why i opted for the early evo 2 as they weigh 1240 gsr version or like mine the rs version which is 1170 kg
