.......where I can get some clear/reflective perspex-type material that would be suitable for replacing the coloured red and orange perspex on the rear lights and indicators.

I want to remove as much colour as I can from my Zed and this is the next step. I will probably use led's to replace the bulbs as they seem to be plentiful and cheap on ebay.

If anyone has carried out such a conversion already, any tips and information would be very welcome.

Cheers - Dave

strip lights defusers dave from b/q, buy a light with it fitted for £9.99 use the defuser and get the light free, thats how i done mine ;)

Good man! Minimising colours is the best way to improve the look of a car and making it more pleasing. Orange just should be on any cars. :) one of the first things I did with my car was to replace all the lighting. IE, 99-spec rear lights, clear wing repeaters etc

Thanks, I'll have a shop around and see what I can find. I notice your red rears are still red! Is there any reason why you haven't also changed them to clear as that is what I plan to do.

Hi FunkySi - I see your sig shows red rear repeaters....just to let you know one of our members is getting me a pair of clear ones, with light in them, from the States in a few weeks. If you're interested I'll let you know how I get on.

EDIT:- SORRY FUNKISI, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED TO ZNUT.

yea because there my rear lights  and could,nt afford 2 striplights ;)

Unscrew the screw in the back of the centre of the lamp then use a heat gun round the sides and bottom, don't leave the heat on one spot to long!

When the plastic is soft and still hot use a flat ended screwdriver to open the bottom and the sides.

Once open pull out the amber and glue in the clear lense.

Close the bottom and the two sides of the lamp together and use the heat gun again to bond it back together.

Take your time, this is not a 5 minute job.

Here's mine, I added the pinstripes

Sorry znut, I did not intend to upset you lol :slap: , I just thought there might have been a technical/legal reason why yours were still red.

Wow Glen, They're really smart  What bulbs are you using for the red and orange and what did you use for the clear lense?

I notice you also kept the top red lense, was there any reason for that?

no worries dave,i was joking with you bud ;)

Did both the amber and red in mine and also the red ones on the side as well :D

PS - the diffuser stuff is also known as Prismatic Controller ;)

MOT may be the reason some people keep the red strips (I personally prefer red strips with clear indicators)

If its all too white/clear at the back they may realise you dont have red reflectors and fail your car?

I think so, anyway.

Normal bulbs for the red, amber ones for the clear. The clear lense I bought from someone off here I think? Kept the red because it looks better IMHO and looks like the proper 300ZX 99 spec lights ;)

Id deffo get some silvatec bulbs if your putting clear perspex in.

It stops that ugly orange bulb showing through. They still flash orange though :)

hi dave, im a new member so hi to all in here! ive just seen your question about the lenses and there was some guy selling the kit for it on ebay the other day ive removed it from my ebay because i thought i may change the rear lights instead, but if you have a look on there you may get lucky :hyper:

Hi Jay - I'm already using chrome bulbs at the front and sides and plan to use the same when I fit the clear rear lenses. I agree you need to get rid of the orange tint which can be seen through clear lenses.

I've today bought a 6ft florescent light diffuser (not the complete light) from a local electrical shop for £11.30.

It has a diamond design which is almost identical to the rear lights on my Zed and will give me sufficient material to make four clear lenses should I decide to replace the red ones as well as the orange.

Many thanks to everyone on this thread for their advice which I will put to good use when I do the conversion. I will post up some before and after photos when it's finished (knowing me, though, that might be some time  )

Cheers - Dave

Thanks M8 - Glenn advised using a heat gun to soften the glue but I don't have one so I'm planning to use the wife's hair dryer, so your divorce prophecy could still be correct :hyper: :hyper: (No, I haven't made a mistake, that is the correct smiley)

I did mine but went to a suspended ceiling supplier and bought a 24"x24" light defuser panel for £1.50, same pattern on it as BnQ striplights, but considerably cheaper, only any good if you dont want a free strip light though!! :D :D
