Whats the best way to prep and paint the brake calipers? The calipers i have are the cast ones (not ally), is it just a case of cleaning them up and painting. Also whats the best type of paint to use? I've seen specific caliper paint, high temp paint and also heard of a few people using hammerite. Any help and preferences are much appreciated :hyper: .

I see what you mean by its not cheap.

Will probably go down the Hamerite route as its easy to get.

Whats best though the brush on or aerosol?

ive got ally and i just degrease them then spray em with satin black, then scrape the nissan logo with a stanley blade to highlight the pollished ally look

not the best pic but you get the idea ;)

i should imagine caliper paint is just paint that is suitable to very high temps, re packaged with the price very much raised.

I quite like that idea, was wondering how to do the Nissan logo. Was thinking about hand painting it but i have the shakes something terrible lol.

Although having the cast calipers it wouldn't be long before they corrode.

lol you could have rolled it fwd a bit for the photo :p

  i know its an old pic

You can also use a file to bring the Nissan lettering back to metal - worked well for me

How will that worh with the cast calipers though, is it just a case of giving them a coat of laquer to stop it oxidising?

would work but not as effective or shiney as ally, ide paint the logo silver with a model paint brush and iff you a shaker have a couple of rum and cokes first ;)

Not sure if the laquer will survive the heat TBH. I'm not sure if my calipers are cast or ally, but they certainly haven't corroded at all..

Well thanks for all the advise, will take pics of before and after.

Thats before and after painting not rum and coke.

The Foliatec lacquer is expensive but its actually a kit of de-greasant, lacquer and hardener.

It goes on smooth so even if you're crap with a brush it levels itself out and sets rock solid like enamel and remains shiney so no need to spray over with a clear coat as you would with normal paint.

It's also really thick so it gives a factory look and not like someone just put a thin layer of paint over them LOL

Once it's done you won't ever need to touch them up as it's rock hard.

Its not as much as i first thought. I found a place that sells the kit for £21. It comes in a variety of colours. Will the one paint kit be enough for all 4 calipers though?

I don't mind paying the extra if like you say its easy maintenance.

Thanks Chris.

Once you add the hardener to the paint, do you have to use it all up, or will the remainder keep ok?
