I know a lot of people have had their black strip removed in favour of going bodycolour. But I'm starting to think that they look much nicer with the black stripe, especially if accompanied with the smoked indicators as fitted to UK cars.

For instance, pearl white here with black stripe, breaks the front bumper up a smidge....

Indicators need some work on them.

Here they are with smoked indicators. Nice clean look to the front end

Now, fog lights will then be a bit of a blot on the landscape. Now I could get the IC ducts from Z1, but quite like this idea...

The bloke that owns this has painted the inner parts of his fog lights in a black-chrome, similar to turb0z, so that they look almost the same as the smoked indicators...

This look was done very well on a yellow UK Zed a few years ago that was featured either in Japanese Performance or Banzai (can't remember which but I have the copy knocking about somewhere...it was also on TV a while back with Mike Brewer doing an inane commentary). It's something that I've planned on doing from day 1 of my own build (although translated to a 99 spec front end).

Charcoal stripe every time. Breaks the front up and makes it look lower (compare to the wide-mouth look of the 99 spec).

Spot on there Gio

Whilst I do like the 99-spec (have to say that.......... ;) plus it's the only bumper I like bar the stock one) the original bumper looks way better with the charcoal stripe, especially when the number plate is in the same position as the UK spec one.

It does look lower and more purposeful.....

I'll be keeping my little 3/4 sized motorbike plate on mine I think. Ideally, I'd have no front plate at all, as the Zs look amazing with no front plate! Lucky Americans without front plates!

Oh right are they? Ok...well, I am sure they have the cutouts in the backs ready for drilling. I have seen some A-spec ones which are like that and have blanked bits..infact JDM ones have running lights which are blanked off.

you can still adapt the uk versions even though they are blanks of course!

Whats that? :hyper: :hyper:

A standard bumper extended? Do they have skirts to match that?

That my friend is a Stillen Type II bumper extension. You can indeed get the skirts for it and they are very nice too.

So a jap bumper with that blended on?

Do you have a picture of the skirts on a car mr PhotobucketSi ;)

  • Author

Nothing blended at all. It's simply clip-on.

They are the ONLY skirts I'd ever consider getting for my car. Most of the rest have pointless little cutouts, vents and grooves etc. These are smooth and pleasing to the eye. Very subtle, but kick the bottom of the car out nicely.

farking love that z how a car should look

Thats THE best front end ive seen on a zed, mean, low, smooth, stunning lines and best of all its a bolt on!!

That will be my new front whether its on this one or another one. Not sure on the skirts though, i prefer them to curve inwards then kick out but if they run with the lines of the front then they will be on there too.

Do they do a full kit version of that inc rear bumper?

I thought about having the front all body colour once but having seen others it put me off, too much colour.

Yes, it is one of the best, if not theeee best front ends IMHO.

You can buy the complete kit. You may have to go to Z1 to get it though. Unaware of any UK importers, maybe Danny @ DTA might be able to help.

As can be seen, without taking away the cars original likes, it can be made to look incredible.

As for the skirts, they do kick out at the bottom, they aren't very good pics I'm afraid and being white, it's a little less obvious to see. Will try and find some more.

I am always thinking about getting this, then I don't, I dunno....I'm not 100% on the rear bumper. Would keep the original bumper, but unfortunately, if you see how the skirts butt up to the swage line, I'd have to mod the rear bumper so that you get rid of the deep recess and are left with a fine one as if it had the rear bumper skirt on. Maybe I could mod the rear bumper skirt of the stillen.

Hi,

I think that the original charcoal strip looks best on the front, especially on white and silver cars!

Painting it bodycolour, just makes it look like the car has had a cheap respray done!

As Gio says, it makes the car look lower and wider at the front.Must get my Jap square number plate changed for a smaller uk style one.

Well, black stripe it is then. Won't be until winter time though. Will get the hole bumper resprayed as I've got a few chips on it.

Si

The UK spec doesnt have tinted indicators. they are just blanks. the front indicators/side lights are in the foglight units.

Mine aren't blanks?

The only thing that would bother me is whacking a number plate over that front end as said above.

Would ruin the face of it no end, not keen on the colour coded slit, would have to be black to match the trims.... so many ideas

Dont think that front end would go well with my wide archs though, they are all rounded with no straight lines anywhere on the car.

  • Author

That's why I have a small number plate. A 3/4 sized one which is barely bigger than the bottom slat. Wouldn't even cover the black strip.

And here's the official Nissan parts fiche showing the charcoal strip (bottom right) and paint code G64-1. 620B01.png

I only mention it cos the UK number plate plinth is a) designed to fit in the strip exactly and b) is colour matched to the charcoal.

If you look at the gaps which allow airflow to the rad(s) the thin one which is in the strip must be less important (it's narrower so air will stall at a lower speed than a wider opening) than the larger opening below it. So personally, I would rather mount a number plate to obscure the thin gap than the big one (best would be the US version where you don't have to have a front plate at all). For some reason, I think that the UK mount within (and matching) the charcoal strip has a neatness about it that beats just hanging a plate like the JDMs.

Yeh, agree Si. Best skirts in the business for the Zed (after the '99s of course).

But not cheap me thinks.

As for this black stripe thing. Never understood it. Is it just on the old Zeds? ;)
